I watched kimin and renata dance the same roles in Los Angeles in 2019 and they were fabulous! Renata fits the Balanchine energy perfectly! This role is made for her!
I was there too!!! Unfortunately I wasn't feeling well at all and couldn't pay perfect attention. I only remember the diamonds part. I wanna see it again so badly. And yes I agree Renata is THEE girl for rubies out of the mariinsky group.
I really like this part of jewels, Renata is very refreshing and of course Kim the top technically but also his virtuosity seems to go without saying🤲🌺🌷🙌
Totally exquisite!! Did I detect a ‘high five’ between these two? The ballet waltz was so beautiful!! Such abandonment. Such sheer fun and enjoyment. At times they seem to portray two children at play. Since watching Mr. Kim’s ArirangTV interview, I am stuck. Can’t get enough of this man of enormous talent.
I love Shakirova, I saw her dance Romeo and Juliet in December, together with Kimin Kim, and they were fantastic, but I feel like she has a very recognizable personal style, which made her the perfect Juliet, but this part doesn't show it off very well. she's too soft and 'flowy' for rubies. it's still a joy to watch her dance, of course
Thanks for posting. It's very intriguing but I agree with cygne: Shakirova is too soft and doesn't have the right attack for this ballet. She is too jovial and smiley, too romantic. There's no sense of danger here. Both are excellent dancers though and I really like them.
TheBunduBallerina, you're the best. I don't recall the last time i was so excited to see a upload in my email. I love him, i absolutely love her and Rubies is just as magnificent as the entire Jewels. Both Renata and Kim, however, look too composed, a little too romantic for the part. Even for the Russian standards!
Thanks for this post. Always a joy to watch these real-life partners dancing together. I love their interpretation. Brings to life Balanchine's vanilla choreography. How he would have loved to have seen these dancers perform his pieces: the technique and bodies after which he sought, but, hey, they graduated from his alma mater and now perform at his first theatre. Kimin Kim a recent graduate, now, along with Leonid Sarafanov, the best in the world, and Renata Shakirova still a student when this was performed. A few shaky patches, but oh what's to come!! Kimin Kim now a principal, Renata Shakirova on her way (hopefully not before Olesya Novikova who should have been promoted a long time ago, in my view. Lots of retirees still listed as principals at the Mariinsky -- not sure why that is --contracts?). I am not certain, but I think I caught sight of Svetlana Strebko in the corps -- an overlooked extremely talented dancer, in my view, equally, or more, talented than Renata Shakirova and now with the Bolshoi. I look forward to her being noticed and given chances there.
I love her she is one of my favorite dancers. But this particular piece requires more sharpness in movement. I watched Diana Vishneva in Rubies and I prefer her interpretation better. But Renata still looks amazing
I like her playful side, but she needs a bit more sharpness for Rubies I think. Maybe because she is new to the role. I thought she did pretty well though. Kimin Kim has good energy, speed and elevation in the man's role.
Renata is so charming. She's definitely a fit for the rubies. However it sounds like they slowed down the tempo. So it wasn't as exciting as it could have been imo. Nonetheless a lovely performance by my favorite young Mariinsky ballerina ❤
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A VIDEO OF THIS FOR AGES!!! Maybe she doesn't have the full Balanchine Rubies-esque style, but I think she looks fabulous in this role; she's so much fun! What year was this performance?
Yes, I knew they danced this in 2014, but they also danced it late last year/early this year so I was wondering which date it was. If this was Renata's debut, then I'm insanely impressed.
This performance is probably March 21, 2014. Stefan is injured and Renata dances with Kim Kimin on Don Quixote on March 15, 2018. I hope to see the video coming up ^ ^
