The bit where we compare the audio is quite telling. The Unicorn battery dropped to 14v after already discharging 650mah, whereas the thunderpower dipped to 13.5 on a pretty fresh 180mah draw. maybe not worth $65 but if you are at the top tier of racing and need every amp and volt you can get this may make a difference.
Drew at 10:33 "We don't have to record it but..." I think... "thought you knew Mr. Bardwell better than that." FOR SCIENCE! It's why we love him so much! We love you too Drew!
Hi guys.. the best combo to me is a motor with less kv and a powerfull battry descharge into it.. and the Tork are sharp and mad.. Banging for accro flips etc..
Lets try both brands, new packs, 20 flights, 20 charges, each, abusing them a little bit. 2-4 different pilots/styles. End result will be much more realistic.
Great opinions and comparisons from two pilots who fly completely different quads and styles. Looks like they're charging $25-$30 more to put 175C on the label.
This is why I'm running cheap 5S packs on motors with too much kv. The batteries have more punch than 4S batteries, and they have just about as much punch when I land at 3.65v as they do when fully charged. These are just $25 CNHL 5S packs. Nothing fancy, but they feel better than any 4S pack I've tried.
I’ll never pay for a maxamps battery on my own. But one thing I’ve not seen you talk about is the warranty, and whether that makes any difference on your opinion.
Well, based on both guys' experience in this video, it's clearly not a great battery, given that neither of them felt it was much different from their normal batteries, despite the fact that it's much more expensive.
Vousie V but both of them both normally fly what are considered to be great batteries, so if they don’t see much difference, they still think it’s a great battery. Is it too expensive? Yes
Have yous tried measuring the battery performance by using full throttle vs distance (height/length). For example full throttle the drone from a stand still for 1 second. Compare the measurements in height at which the drone get for each battery pack. Also, try running a [DRL] course.
Joshua, it would be interesting to see steele and le drib use this battery with different hardware, IE different motors/props...I don't exactly know which motor/prop combination would be best in this case...but for instance, maybe heavier props that produce more thrust at the cost of being more power hungry. It would be interesting to see their reaction then. I'm just thinking their reaction may have been lack luster due to the fact that they're using their normal setup, motors/props, which would have the same power draw if they weren't battery limited to start with...which it looks like they were not. Steele - "Feels like a 1500...thats all I got." lel
Not that there's anything wrong with your videos Joshua I just been kind of doing other things but the main reason why I watch this was because mr. steel was on it.... He gives it straight and he didn't have any brand loyalty.... You and the driver cool too so don't worry don't feel butt hurt about it.... But mr. Steele was what actually got me to watch the video ....
What are you talking about ? Steele is definition of brand loyalty. Not only he is sponsored by many brand(directly or indirectly) he also has his own series of hardware. Hell he never is straight about products if it is competing with his sponsors
getting ThunderPower 95c 1600 Spec packs for sale from ThunderPower during a sale is WAY more important to me, buy 2 1600 TP 95C for price of one Unicorn? Easy math.
Looking back at the videos you can see the Max Amps has higher voltage at the end with less sag on Dru flight. I think it’s impressive that it sustained the same abuse with less heat BUT... I didn’t catch if the second battery dru flew was the same MAH as the Max Amps. But for me, I wouldn’t pay more for such a small gain.
The biggest difference came toward the end of the packs. All the packs were sagging into the low 14s on hard punches, but the MaxAmps did spring back quickly and toward the tail end of the packs it seemed the MaxAmps was staying higher than 13v toward the end of its capacity. The main question is; how much of that is because it was a new pack vs older packs? The benchtest definitely shocked me with how well it did. You really need to compare it on a racetrack though where you have definitely lines and consistency is key. Then the last question will always be, how many cycles it can keep.up that performance. My Revo GO 1350mah 70C started out strong but it didnt take long for them to just completely die. If I fly as hard as I can on a track, I get less then half a lap before it just sits in the high 12 to low 13v and completely dies in the ass mid in a hairpin unable to pull out of it. Yet despite the fact its saggier than your grandmas mammaries, they arent puffing or getting excessively hot.
So conclusion is, if you want to spend 60$ on a battery, your not going to get a bad battery, iif your not going to the moon then you don’t need to go 150c . I find cnhl batts are just as good as adrenaline 100c . And id rather spend 25$ for a battery than 50$. Good test Josh, keep up the good work you do!
I don't know if it's a unicorn... More like a Liger (lion+tiger)... you know totally big and cool and stuff, but not really anything magical about it. 😁
The MaxAmps definitely sustained voltage better. That said, as Le Drib noted, you were comparing package-fresh MaxAmps to tired worn-out Thunderpowers. Also Drib murdered that poor final pack.... 12.1v at disarm o.o no wonder it was puffed up!
Hey Joshua, I really like your videos. Really informative and educational. Would you kindly make a video about your farm? I'm really interested, and I think it would be well received by the community here! Thank you!
I think the maxed amps performs better, but marginally. And definitely not enough to justify the pricetag. On a side note, I also find that my thunder power batteries are puffing and dropping cells lately. I don't know if they changed something but my old TP adrenalines lasted until I killed them....the new ones are not performing well for me, and considering it's a "premium" battery it's really not acceptable.
I wandered what the Ghostbusters theme was from. it was ledrib's start-up. seems like a decent battery especially pulling 100A at full. not sure I would get one for £60 though.
I can hear a pitch difference in the audio. Steele's props are definitely going faster. But it actually looks like the weight fully counters that and maybe more on the bottom of the punchouts. It seems to me that if the battery is better per gram of mass then perhaps the props these freestyle guys use for battery life just aren't pushing back against the motors to see it. Personally I can get tattu 75c batteries so cheap I can't see exchanging 3 for 1. It seems the new trend is to get the better relative amp handling per gram with 6s and low kv. Oohh imagine a 6s 175c maxamps battery. Might be worth it for someone who makes money racing. But not for me
Silly question since Im still new to FPV. Wouldn't the ESC's be limiting maximum amp draw. From what I know most people use 32a ESC's... 32x4 is 128.. which is pretty much what we saw. Maybe the other hardware is limiting the outcome.
I can't believe Mr. Steele can stand there all non chalant next to Joshua Bardwell. I would be screaming like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert asking him to autograph my chest.
@Joshua, I've a question about Drib pulling 120-130 amps in this video ... I see lots of videos of guys going full throttle to climb buildings which makes me wonder whether a 30A ESC could handle this without burning up or having a short lifespan?
Drew nailed it...It's a novelty product. I don't care how good a battery is, I'm never gonna spend $600 on ten batteries that I could smash and kill on its first flight. I'd buy 20 $30 every time. But it might be fun to have one for those special flights
Great test, but why M. STEELE setup don't go over 100A, is it limited ? (this is better for lipo's durability) and the power is enough to make crazy thing !
It was cool to see everyone together again..... I've always wondered about the Max Amps winning the RC buggy world.... They would take more abuse Cycles but that was it and I was wondering what they would be like on a quad thanks for your guyses review I definitely answered my question

But that battery is twice the cost of the tattu 1550 100c 4s. For the way i fly id rather have 2 tattu batteries over 1 maxamp battery
pmm4177 agreed!
Those are my favorite batts.
Bro those tattus are amazing I have a 450mah 3s at 75c and there great I have a scimitar 110 thing rips
Just ordered me some tattu batteries to test. 3S and 4S different mah..
Even if they were 175c I'd rather just have 2 bats
I haven't even started this video and I'm soooo happy to see you guys working together!!
Love this approach: "here's the science - and here are some respected opinions"
I wish they said"and here is the class action lawsuit you can join against their false advertisement"
Was pulling 120 amps holy f$#@. Love these "old" videos. Crazy how the hobby changes in such a short time.
Maxamps has been doing this for years. Selling packs with unprovable numbers with huge pricetags. And at best are ok.
Drew at 10:33 "We don't have to record it but..." I think... "thought you knew Mr. Bardwell better than that." FOR SCIENCE! It's why we love him so much! We love you too Drew!
Its pointless asking Steele. If its something steele isnt flying. Steele will not like it. Thats just the type of guy he is.
To be honest I thought he was a little positive.
To be honest I thought he was a little positive.
Joshua Bardwell really? Came across to me that he couldnt of given a F. And just wanted to fly his setup 🤣
He didn't give a shit... He is a arrogant prick
+Meru Fpv jep cuz he knows hes a big puss
Dude with blue hair i love the way he flies i was so into it. I was smiling like crazy great stuff and you could here how excited he was to use it.
Hi guys.. the best combo to me is a motor with less kv and a powerfull battry descharge into it.. and the Tork are sharp and mad.. Banging for accro flips etc..
Lets try both brands, new packs, 20 flights, 20 charges, each, abusing them a little bit. 2-4 different pilots/styles. End result will be much more realistic.
Yeah, because organizing that is simple and cheap, and practical ;)
Great opinions and comparisons from two pilots who fly completely different quads and styles. Looks like they're charging $25-$30 more to put 175C on the label.
I learned how useful the amp draw is. Year and a half and still something new every day.
Nice to see a real world after the bench test. Thanks

Even if they last double the cycles you can buy double the packs and fly more per session.
Good to see Steele hanging out with the other guys.
Steele, ledrib, ,butter, flow... you guys always amaze me.
So happy to see Steele back in the mix. Hes an odd ball for sure but I'm an odd ball too so I'm a fan lol
I wonder how those batteries might work for my 5' 2850kv quad that's drawing about 150amps on punch outs...but at 60$ i dont think i'm gonna find out
Drew killed that Thunderpower! 3.2 volts per cell LOL
I’m soooo pumped because you are
Really great idea combining the 2 videos, so that you see mainly the gopro, but also the telemetry of the FPV camera. !!
It's unfortunate because while it's clearly a great battery, I think most people will find the price tag outweighs the added value
Well, based on both guys' experience in this video, it's clearly not a great battery, given that neither of them felt it was much different from their normal batteries, despite the fact that it's much more expensive.

I appreciate Drew and JB's enthusiasm, just saying.
It seems like the maxamps is able to hold more voltage under load and recover more volts after a hard pull when deep in the run. Just my observation.
Thanks for the side by side testing, that just shows that maybe theres just hype around the pack...

@Little Miss Sunshine I think hes a honest guy, reminds me of nikola tesla.

BLheli_32 and some blackbox data would eliminate all the guesswork. You could see exactly the RPM difference at full throttle.
@Le Drib Puffy and hot after you used it to 12-13V hover voltage? I would be surprised if it wasn't damaged!
Coming here to see the idol fly. Steele & drib 🙌
6:36 - JB goin gangsta was unexpected but appreciated. "DAT UNICAWN!" XD
Crossover episode meets a crossover episode! I was hyped, not for the batts or the motors.
They both fly so good.

Lol, there absolutely was an RPM and noise difference...if it's really 65 bucks I see that yeah, no friggin way, but.....it definitely had more punch.
Max amps lipo is the world people use it for combat robots usually with 300A or like 800A brushless esc so it tells us y it's good.

If anyone saw the amperage draw the highest amperage draw on Steeles battery was 90 amps the highest draw on the other battery was 115 120 amps
Hi JB nice to see you :P
You guys are awesome I had fun
I wandered what the Ghostbusters theme was from. it was ledrib's start-up. seems like a decent battery especially pulling 100A at full. not sure I would get one for £60 though.
Steele at Kwad Camp. Never thought I'd see it. Very cool.
I've been flying thunderpower since i started in RC, 2001 they are the best, just cost alot.
Tatuu R-Line 5.0 150c 1200mah 6s .. best battery ever made for racing or freestyle .. tiny like a 4s and super light
I can hear a pitch difference in the audio. Steele's props are definitely going faster. But it actually looks like the weight fully counters that and maybe more on the bottom of the punchouts. The ESC amp rating is not a limit. The ESC will deliver more amps, it will just be damaged if you regularly draw too many amps.
I can't believe Mr. Steele can stand there all non chalant next to Joshua Bardwell. I would be screaming like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert asking him to autograph my chest.
I like Bardwell and le drib although all three of them can fly really well

Well one factor is they have a lifetime warranty. So if you make enough claims you even out.
Joshua Bardwell wasn't aware of that. That actually changes the calculus considerably
When I hear charged for 3 days and 3 months old...I have 8 month old batteries that have been charged for a week
Great test, but why M. STEELE setup don't go over 100A, is it limited ? (this is better for lipo's durability)

@joshua bardwell can you test team Orion batteries please??
$25 for the Acehe 75C at RR I would get over this all day. But I had that conclusion after the first vid
Do you just fly until the Mah is the same as written on the battery?
Or do you watch til it gets down to a certain volt?

The voltage. Fly until the voltage is sagging into the mid 14. Battery should rest at about 15 after the flight.
