- Hey everyone!
We are very excited to introduce out 1999 Chevrolet Astro, which is basically a mini van produced by GM. The GMC Safari is virtually the same car.
Today, we started the tear down of the interior as the first step into making this van a camper van/multi purpose van.
We have alot of plans for this little nugget, and there is a lot of work ahead of us, but we know we can get it all done in a timely fashion!
Come with us as we make this astro van kinda cool.

We are currently looking to name the van! Let me know what you think, we may pick it!
Ill name the van bro. But right now i gotta get some oxygen. Hey man im allergic to cockroaches also my dude.
Cockroaches, crabgrass and cats are the death of me 😂
What do you mean “oxygen”?
And please do! I was actually think of calling it the “Chuggin’ Astro” because no matter what it keeps chuggin along
@@AutoMotivatesee yep you get it totally chuggin.
I should of posted my other comment on this video, hadnt seen this 1 though yet...but good for you putting all your heart n hard work bringing this tank back to her prime. ❤
Van lifeeeeeee
Adam the Astro Man
Wish I could’ve helped more but you seem to have this wizardly knowledge of how things work so I’m mostly here for moral support. 😊
Sometimes that’s the best support 🙏
You two did "tons" of work. And you two work very good together!!
Hey, we appreciate that! We really do like working together 😁
I'am Your Newest Subscriber Great Videos I just Got A 1999 Astro Van
I hope you enjoy it my friend and thank you 😁
The Start of something Amazing
Great video.
I have a 2002 Safari.
I am inspired by you to convert it too.
Good video. I purchased a GMC safari last week.. going to make a camp van of sorts. I will be watching these. First thing I am doing is removing carpet. The previous owner smoked.
Just bought my 2000 astro subbing for astro content
Ill be posting them in between my other content! Thank you for the support. What is your plans for your Astro?
You can easily change your fuel pump through the floor of the van. Especially since you already stripped the carpet! I did it on mine ( don't use a grinder = use a chisel) i didn't want to take the fuel tank off.. ;)
This is looking like a cool project man, keep it up!
Just received the fuel pump! Then we can start working on de-rusting the floor pan 🙏
Yay...fun series
We are very excited 🙏
lmao “oh great! You’re allergic to that”
See? That’s what worker safety is all about 😂
Yep, just uploaded video about my own 2001 Astro. Just got it yesterday. Doing the same thing as you here. Subbed.
N. M. Thanks brother. The vans are awesome but, as I just checked out your video, we are in for a difficult project. I have a video coming out within the week of me derusting/rubberizing the entire floorboard
@@AutoMotivate I've got the same project with a 2001 Astro but got to skip the nastiness since mine is a cargo to start off with but similar color to yours, I'm sure it's got some nasty hiding around...paid $600. Saw your video on the fuel pump since it looks like previous owner tried to cut a square but failed real bad on mine. Hoping for the best to all of us. I just ordered fuel pump, radiator & cap, water pump, side view mirrors just because and a couple door handles too.
I'm on my second Astro van as of now and I can tell you that the fuel pumps usually are the first to go in the fuel system
I actually bought it and drove it 2.5 hours with a fuel pump sending 30psi instead of the 55psi it should have been pushing. It was a sketchy drive 😂 I have a video of me replacing it
I honestly just went and ripped everything out with my bare hands and a box cutting knife in my van lol. It took about 10 minutes but I did leave the front end intact.
That’s what I kinda ended up doing for a portion of it. I had an idea of potentially selling some of the interior, but all of it was way too far gone.
The bolts were rusted, the floor was wet and moldy, there were roaches throughout it. It was just so gross.
Is the carpet that's on the metal doghouse glued on to it or velcro'd on or something? I want to take mine out to clean it with a pressure washer and I can't get the doghouse out without taking the seat out, kind of a dilimena
I got this same color
Mines a 2002
Van 2020
Is it too late to let you know you should keep the bottom trim, and weather-strip, on the back doors? The water will travel down the inside of the door jams, and without the bottom rubber weather-strip in place, water will leak onto the floor.
Fuel pumps is a astro thing
How long did the stripping take?
It honestly didn’t take too long. Once we removed all the trash, it went fairly quickly. I broke a few things that I shouldn’t have, but other than that, I think it took a total of 4 hours.
You are making a good job But of you, I think this van will be a good camper for small 5riøp & perect for gp ku concert and you have a mini Home with you
Good luck and I strips photo of you
I am considering an ASTRO. Any specific year and better than another?
I would get 2001 and up. They come with the updated distributor, (pre 1999 had the “pancake” disease), disc brakes, and a few more things I can’t think of. 2001 and up is the way to go.
However, all the years are reliable.
@@AutoMotivate Thank You Much Appreciated
@@AutoMotivate Can the pancake disease be cured? If so.. How?
@@Dan0rioN you have to swap out the distributor! I have a video of me doing it on the van breaking down video.
@@AutoMotivate Ok so it should be fine after that, right? I just got a 97 Astro with 190k for $800.. It runs well & handles great but it has front end damage, worst of which is core support bent in couple inches.. Already got it out about an inch & needs about another half inch to go.. Hopefuly it doesn't have any major issues.. Only rust I see is surface rust on the frame.. You think it's worth fixing & keeping?
@AutoMotivate is this how you look like lol
Sure is 🙏
I'm allergic to 🪳 too 😷
They are terribly gross..
Roach gel works best
I’ve basically removed all the interior, but bombed the garage and removed all the rust on the floor pan and now the roaches are all gone 🙏 I’ll look into the gel if I have another issue. Thank you!
Masks and pairs of gloves are your friend
Dear
followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who
buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into
the trash is very large. In this company there is no customer service,
the company's management does not care at all, if you have a problem or a
malfunction, you can only pray to God there is a chance that the help
will come faster. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep
your money safe.!!!Share so more people don't get screwed.GM is a big bluff
That Astro is too rusted to convert to a camper. Mine is just as rusted. Just not worth it.
I actually just finished de-rusting the entire floor board. No rust holes, surprisingly. The frame is in pretty good shape.
Why you buy such junk, you could've gotten another..?
It’s a project.
Just bought one for 800 in way better condition lol
It was the worst vehicle I ever owned.
