As a straight FEMALE this movie has been my favorite documentary since forever! I ended up giving birth at 16 to a beautiful transgender daughter who I am sooo proud to be her mother! Little did I know this documentary would help me to understand my unique child I gave birth to.. and of course I showed her this documentary.. It's her favorite too!
You are one of the reason that i sill have hope for humanity. When i came out as a trans girl to my mom, she had no idea how to react. I love you whoever you are and people like you are the reason that i am still hopeful.
Knew Pepper personally & she was NO JOKE! My woman Candy, back then, was from that legendary house! Candy used 2 take me 2 lots of shows. I was real young during that time , so I was fascinated, awed & impressed with everything & every1! Loved it! 💯👍🏾😘
I fell in love when I saw this movie and have yet to attend a ball. The glamour, the creativity and the reads… I have to attend at least one ball in my lifetime
Watched this in my sociology class back in college. Got a B+ in that class! I can definitely say watching this Doc opened my eyes. A lot of these men had hard working Jobs in the day time and at night time! It becomes GAMETIME for them lol! Never necessarily agreed with it but I learned to RESPECT it! 💯
Another straight female here who grew up in a house full of children “the children “ as my uncle called them. So much love they gave me, they taught me about sex and the things that the traumatized women in my family avoided. My Yogi had Ms. Pepper’s energy. So fly and loving. You don’t have to see it because you know it kind of energy. I swear AIDS left my poor auntie all alone and I look back on the day’s sneaking into club bunns and sportsman in Baltimore with them because I didn’t want them to leave me. If I stayed up until they left I could go. My first weave and my first pair of six inch heels. I was their baby. Was it all a dream😢❤RIP MISS YOGI❤MISS EVAN ❤JR AKA JAZZY RHONDA❤️MISS QUEENIE💜MAURICE (SISTA)❤ and the rest of the crew too many to name. I wish AIDS never existed. Can you imagine all the people who would be here😢
I went to a "Ball" back in the day, it was the most fun yet surreal experience in my life. I am a Straight Female, but it was like getting out of your Comfort Zone and going into the amazing Twilight Zone.
I don’t know what these individuals have each gone through but the reactions to that performance don’t make sense to me. The reactions in balls today are much more conducive to normality in my mind; maybe they were putting it on for the cameras ?
They have gotten more boring over the years. Then again, Labeija was very well known and loved as well, so when she walked, it had to have everyone in an uproar.
"I've been around for 2 decades....Reigning that is". ICONIC!
