  • Trudelies Leonhardt, on an original Pianoforte by Benignus Seidner (Vienna about 1815), plays Beethoven’s Andante in F major, WoO 57, composed between 1803 and 1804 and published in 1805. Also called Andante favori, name given by Carl Czerny, Beethoven's pupil. Originally, this Andante was supposed to be the slow movement of Waldstein Sonata, op 53, but a friend of Beethoven convinced him to change for a shorter movement...

It's been such a treat seeing all these videos of Trudelies Leonhardt playing on period pianos. I've been a fan since hearing a performance on the radio of Schubert's D. 959 in around 1989 or 1990 (I can't seem to locate this album online).

I have been listening to several different performances of this Andante and was not convinced, and came up on this recording . Wow, this is so beautiful and ethereal…. Now I understand why Beethoven liked to play this piece often.. Thank you so much for uploading. Never heard of the pianist before! I must look her up!
