- CLASSIC VINTAGE SNOOKER
Lucky Eight brings you a classic from 1991 showcasing a match which features a young Ronnie O'Sullivan at just fifteen years of age versus Declan Murphy in the final of Junior Pot Black.
That was a masterclass by any standards. An absolute privilege to watch. The fluidity, the accuracy, the flow, the composure. It's almost as if he was better at 15 than at later stages of his career. One of the most talented sportsmen ever. No wonder Declan Murphy never made it, that must have been traumatising for him.
Yes, a pro could have struggled playing against Ronnie here.

I think he said at 13 or 14 he would have been ready for professional snooker. That would have been amazing to see someone so young and small taking on the pros
Incredible. He was just 15. He really is the god of snooker.
Born genius way ahead of his age group. At this age he was better than some professionals
Ronnie was decent too
I'd wager he'd have been top 16 as a professional
He would have easily won the two semi finals played yesterday in the 2024 world champs if he'd been in this form!
Wow Ronnie has always been so amazing to watch play, he makes it look so easy. He's barely changed in his style either - so confident.
It's like Ronnie was always playing like Ronnie, even back then, at 15. Just looked so confident, like a pro playing an exhibition match,.
Boy I miss Ted Lowe's dulcet tones. At least he witnessed the start of true greatness in Ronnie.
Roonie Osuvlivian is built to play snooker, no question about that, as Pele for football, Mohammad Ali for boxing, Tiger Wood for Golf. Whata a living legend.
I've got a feeling this Ronnie kid is going to go on and do well in the future
Ronieeeeeeee! Brilliant. Im only just watching these early videos and wow. ....
I went into this video supporting Ronnie but ended up rooting for Declan. Declan was smaller and physically an underdog. And I feel like the pressure got to him
So, if Putin was gay too, you'd just be Putin's twin, as the gay part of your name would become redundant?
jackson riviera well I’m actually putin but pretending to be my twin allows me to express my true sexuality without scrutiny. Don’t tell anyone or it’s the gulag for you 😘❣️✨✨
Ted Lowe in commentary said, "This 15 year old has a bright future in front of him... He has all the right moves and is the World Junior Champion".
I don't think Ted could have realised just how pround his words would prove to be, these aren't just random words from a guy in the commentary box, because Ted Lowe had been around Professional Snooker since the days of Joe & Fred Davis, John Pullman, Sydney Smith, etc, and it was he that BBC contacted to put the Pot Black show together.
Wise words and quality observation from a lesser appreciated legend of snooker.
Rest in heaven Ted Lowe and its easy to see that Ronnie was alread way ahead of his time.
Declan, I hope you feel better now knowing who you lost to in such a fashion.
I dont think so he plays snooker now, i couldn't find his name anywhere
Unlucky he was a good player
Sadly Declan turned to the booze and fags shortly after this match and now enjoying his second career serving fish and chips in Limerick.
There is a fine line to make in the pros
declan went on to have a fine career as a jockey
Those creaky floorboards would have driven me fucking crazy
They are making me crazy
Ronnie the genius of the 21st century in snooker, way to go Ronnie.
It'll be a while before another genius like Ronnie comes along...ABSOLUTE PURE CLASS!!
That final clearance from Ronnie! That pink!!
Never been another like him!!!
Continuing to play after the frame is clearly lost. Now we know who Ronnie got the idea from
Hi..can someone please upload ronnies 1st maxium at age 15 and 90 days...it will be appreciated alot...thanks
He's not much different here to the current Ronnie. He really is the snooker goat
Genius
Ronnie indeed is a gifted player!
Ronnie- the innocence of youth. Credit to both players here
What kind encouraging words from John Spencer to young Declan at the end.
gerryryan yeah it must feel worse when it’s televised and these kids might not have the maturity to deal with it
22:18 The voice never change
This kid was a WORLD CHAMPION AT 15!
Let that sink in =)
Ronnie looks like a young Elvis Presley. Such a legacy, congratulations on all your victories Ronnie. I would love to see his trophy room.
Doesn't look any different than the Ronnie of today!
Had all the shots at 15 😳👏
Ronnie0.. Incredible .. super star
I just watched UK Champ 2024 and Masters 2024 and GrandPrix 2024, Damn watching this 1991 - 2024 Ronnie taking them all - This is INSANE
Any idea what happen to Declan Murphy? He quit playing snooker? No info on him
21:28 The best pot of the match - Silence.
No bro, its at 5:25
@@elhamfahim1925 21:48 better
nahh bro... what about 21:50
ANAMAZING PERFORMANCE FROM RONNIE ASTONISHING TALENT
Just look at Ronnie's eyes. Pure grit...
Except it's very difficult to discern the reds in these old clips.
yea some look brown
At 15, he could play with the pro.
The last pink. Omg
LoL @ Full HD! Still fun to watch.
cousin Ron turned his back on my coaching soon after this. I miss ron! -Darn Reardon!
Eamonn Holmes looking so young! And John Spencer was a great character in the old game.
incredible!
Where’s the left handed shot ?
Where’s the cue ball going ?
I wonder if at that point someone already knew that he would become the greatest of all time
Even then,,, Ronnies mind set, the way just fell into the Zone, and those last 4 pots, even today i reckon he has not potted 4 consecutive pots like that ever, that was awesome to the tune, you have to laugh...
World class at 15. Now that’s preparation for you
When you're only 15 and it's already too obvious to put you in the 'ones to watch' bit lol
'Chew-am, County Galway' hahaha
Tavy@ when ronnie was asked at age 13 "how big would you like to be" and he said "about 5ft10" lol and he did make it to 5ft10" but the interviewer meant who would you like to be like? And ronnie said after we laughed "like alex higgins and jimmy white, alex was my hero"
This young man has a potential. Hope to see him turn professional.
Hope to see him turn professional ?????? hahahahahahaha
Wakey Wakey...
@Bilal: When so good at such a young age, it's unlikely he will stay focused. I don't think we will hear a lot from him in the future.
@@keinKlarname wtf???
@@tommycanavan8285 ???
I'd like to see world champion Ronnie try repeating the last 4 balls in the final frame today! That was amazing.
Young eyes;-)
they didn't even notice the left handed shot
Where was it.. dont have much time to search it
What’s happened to Declan I wonder
Ronnie thinking - it’s amazing that Hendry my Hero is her
Hendry thinking - oh shit…
At 18:41 murphy didnt even watched at the angle for the yellow
Never mind Declan you were up against the best Ronnie xxxlol all the best 21:01
13:50 - "The balls are like pills, and the pockets like *mouths* "
Buckets not mouths
Pills and buckets makes a lot more sense in this context 😂
It was as if Ronnie was shelling peas. The commentary is so awesome in the UK compared to a 9-Ball tournament in Vegas!
funny to see Ronnie so nervous before the start. But then he only missed one easy shot in the whole match.
Eamon holmes hosted snooker, never knew that!
I recognise Declan Murphy, but who was the dark Haired Lad ??
Tavy@ i had to laugh one night when ronnie was on junior pot black at 13 or 14 a thinck or it might have just of been an interview and the interviewes said to ronnie "how big would you like to be" and ronnie said 5ft10" lol and the interviewer said no a mean how big as in who would you like to play like? And ronnie said "like alex higgins and jimmy white, alex was ma hero" you arnt alone there young ronnie i thought!!!!
I just hear Ronnie say this are tight pockets? :O OMG looks like buckets to me.
That table is SO slow.
And we never heard of Declan again...
Looked like a kid playing a pro, bad luck to be in the generation... or now it seems bad luck to be in the same centuary!
Looks the same now pretty much
Classic Ronnie
5'10"!
I thought to myself "what are they laughin at"
When did Ronnie start cueing with his left hand? I feel l like with his natural genius he probably could do it at 15
I like the fact that they don't clap at every shot like these days but rather clap when it a really good shot
The same observation.
The brown at 6:36 though shows the crowd isn't that knowledgable. How the hell didn't they applaud that one?
ha ha 4:53, I may need a second opinion
Eamonn Holmes almost 30 years ago!
Where is declan murphy now?
Changed his name to Shawn Murphy after this loss
mohd amiruddin crying
Poor declan
Murphy starts the 2nd frame as if its nothing. Why didnt he take his time
Who is this boy
Slow Table , Ronny was Great .. but is he wearing Al Capones Clothes ?... ps squeaky floor boards around the table ..
Yhat table is slow stevens was on
Watching ronnie play is the snooker equivalent of Pamela Anderson of baywatch running along the beach in slow motion...
Why didn't the Irish kid concede the first frame?
I'm assuming Declan looked for a new calling
A shame he must of been playing Ronnie John and Mark thinking if I'm not as good as these kids I have no chance in the pros
Only if the umpires new all the running around they'll be doing next 30 yrs 🤣🤣 Go rocket 🚀 Go
Declan who?
What were they thinking these poor kids wining then getting thrown against Ronnie lmao how is that a prize
Whatever happened to that Ronnie lad? didn’t quite make it in the game...🙄
can’t see this kid doing much to be honest,.
Declan Murphy died of chronic alcoholism later that year.
Seriously?
@@gynandroidhead No I was joking because Ronnie ruined his life that day.
@@jelleepit thank goodness. What really did happen to Declan Murphy? He's a character name on the NBC-TV show "Law and Order SVU."
Close game. lol
Pudgy little Ronnie! Looks older than most 15 year olds did at 15! Declan Murphy ever get anywhere? He’s Irish and so am I and never heard of him
Someone said he became a jockey; I’m not sure if that’s true.
Referee was way too slow. Even I would have kicked off.
Declan who😄😄😄😄😄
