Thank you Kenny. Your video gave me a better view on how to diagnose a no code misfire. I am currently having this exact issue on my 1998 Nissan maxima with a 5 speed. I own a scanner as well and up to this point wasn't aware that I could scan for misfires after a drive cycle. Thanks again.
Had one misfire on all the time replaced coil and problem was ECM driver wasn't signaling no .2 coil pack, ouch ! Ate the coil pack ,charged ECM r and r $ no ck engine light before or after! Clear out regardless and test drive! Dam trick me! Put old coil back on ,test drive no problem! Kept new coil for shop! This old dog learn new trick, lolol! Good simple video ! Man verses machine!
I've had several Escapes loose the pcm driver for the coil . Usually I find it's the ones that never had plugs changed . Good find on your part !! Thanks for watching !! P.S. it was just the coil on this one. I just changed the one coil and all the plugs . Runs like it should now
I have an 09 Traverse with #2 misfire. Swapped coils, plugs, even fuel injectors, and the misfire remains in #2. Seems like ECM issue, same as you had. How can you test to know for sure?
Hey Kenny, how are you? Maybe Ford had a software update for the onboard computer that was never programmed into the vehicle that when done might set the check engine light? I'm just thinking outside of the box on this one. Weird but very interesting! Thank you Kenny for another great video.
Im having the same symptoms with the bam bam bam, i know exactly what you mean. It happens only when driving, and I have no codes. I know it has to be a coil or plug. I installed all new coils, but they were in my trunk for a while. One was out of the box, and I bet it's that one.
What if I’m getting light pops that sound like a misfire only when hard accelerating from low rpms it does it pretty regular and doesn’t get any worse/better the longer i drive, I’ve replaced all the coil packs for aesthetic issues since the start of the issue but it has had no effect so it’s likely not ignition. It’s an old car with no cats, I’m not sure if the pops are just old car sounds, exhaust valve blow by or a misfire and with no cel it’s really hard to know where to start (it’s running rich, not sure why, prolly something to do with the charcoal canister/evap canister being full/clogged since I’m also having issues with gas pumps shutting off on me)
Kenny, my car was running a bit rough and lagged on power I had an ignition coil I replaced and now my car runs smooth and gets up and goes. Just wondering how to tell based on spark is an ignition coil bad. Just by looking at the physical spark with a spark tester.
I have a 2011 corolla and having a misfire sometimes when i stop at a light on drive. Mostly in drive. If i put it in neutral most of the misfire goes away. Air cleaner is new, new plugs. Just started happening out of the blue
How do you know it's a misfire? A broken motor mount will mimic a misfire. If the corolla does have a misfire, it will throw a code. Let me know how everything goes. Keep wrenching 🔧
I cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and a rag. It was a bit dirty, cleaned the MAS Air flow sensor with mass air flow sensor cleaner. Still didn’t fix the issue. There is a small hose on the throttle body that seemed a bit loose, and also a hose on the valve cover. Fixed those and still no fix. Scanned it and it came up with a misfire code, but no check engine light. Code was p0302. Misfiring cylinder 2. I took off plug and it looks fine. I replaced them not to long ago. I swap that plug with cylinder 3 plug and cleared codes. Going ro see if it comes back with a code on a different cylinder or stays at cylinder 2. Then i will follow the problem. I drove it around and it still does it, but way way less often
I’ve got a Taurus with the 3.5 in it. Forscan says 1% to throw a code. It’s mostly on a grade but the rpm’s surge and the vehicle shudders and definitively power loss. Misfire count on three cylinders are only a handful. Throws no codes. Trying to swap pack to cylinder with no misfires. Anyways. Definitely a thing that happens and it is frustrating.
I think that was resolved by the time this one came out . I have personally worked on two of them that wiped out the ecm . I've known of a half dozen others that have also , but I wasn't personally involved in those . I think that issue was resolved by the 2004-05 model year . But I'm not 100% on that
What about a misfire code on several cylinders but if the misfire monitor is ran it will never show a misfire. The misfire count pod is counting misfires but never shows on the test.
I used a cheap as chips Bluetooth OBDII scanner, and an app simply called "car scanner" on my Nokia X30 Android phone (no expensive scanner needed), and found misfires on cylinder 2 and 4. No check engine light for me either, and it only happens when engine is near/at operating temperature. 2013 Chevy Trax 1.4 Turbo Going to check plugs and maybe move them around, to see if the problem moves.
@@mattg4135 The coil-pack had corroded(?) (copper had turned green) where it contacts the spark-plugs. Changed coil-pack and plugs, runs better than ever now. Have a new problem, the car wont start when hot, and "all" the lights on the dash lights up. Scan says that there is a communication issue, so I'm guessing corrosion in the ECU connections. Gonna disconnect it and use contact-cleaner and a brush to clean it and see if that helps.
@@masterchririus thanks for the reply! I'm trying to track something similar. But my Car Scanner App doesn't have a misfire counter like in the video. I'm using the free app like you are.
@@mattg4135 I don't remember exactly, but I think it was under "live data". The only other app I remember using was Torque (Pro), which I ended up buying because it was so cheap. Hope it helps. On my car it was pretty obvious when I pulled the coil-pack, that it was the issue, so maybe you should have a look there, if you haven't already. I might have been able to fix it with just some cleaning, but at that point I had already bought the parts, and I changed them as I think they hadn't been changed since new. The car had about 86k km on the road at that time. (53k miles)
Hi, i had a headgasket replaced on my chevrolet cruze 1.8 plugs and coils was change but after the fix i do have registered 2 misfire counts every current drive cycle on cylinder 4 but sometimes no misfire at all, and i couldnt feel that my car was misfiring. what could be the issue on it? Please help,.
Time delay of 3 to 5 secs on the sensor. Its not going to show it. Your vehicle will still drive till the warrenty is out. Sounds or vibrations are not covered by warranty or extended coverage. You have to have bad part. No guessing allowed. You got a lemon.. 😂 dealership will send you packing. Sell it to them real cheap. They'll give you a deal on a new vehicle.

So what was the problem at the end?
Was it the #2 injector?

I had this on my 2010 Sierra. I did a crank position relearn and no more misfires.
Are this model years had the defective spark plugs that would takeout the coils and the ECM

Figured it was a coil, a boot causing intermittent tracking, or a bad plug based on your analysis.

It's either an ignition coil or spark plug. He did say it was deffinately an ignition misfire
