Captured before coronavirus lockdowns halted the project, this film offers rare insight into the process behind restaging this masterpiece with a newly assembled company of 38 dancers from 14 African countries.
This co-production between Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (UK), should have opened in March 2020 in Dakar as part of a double-bill with a new work created and performed by Malou Airaudo and Germaine Acogny, common ground[s].
A Pina Bausch Foundation, École des Sables & Sadler’s Wells production co-produced with Théâtre de la Ville, Paris; Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg; Holland Festival, Amsterdam; Festspielhaus, St Pölten. The project is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Goethe Institut and kindly supported by the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

Just had the immense privilege of seeing this performed at the Edinburgh Festival in an audience of 3000 who erupted at the end with such an ovation it lifted the roof. Amazing. A once in a lifetime experience.
The complete film is called " Dancing Pina" . I was so lucky to see everything: a performance of Sacre by her company, the film and the performance of these intense african dancers. Goosebumbs, emotional and breathtaking. In the first version the stage was covered with moist peat. The smell filled the space and gave it another dimension. The music more than 100 years and the choreography made in 1975. For me alltogether one of the most moving experiences ever.
The dance in Senegal I would love to have this dance on a DVD!!!
Amazing that dancing a certain piece, certain choreography enlights people so much. Probably because it tells true about something in all of human kind.
theirs is the best performance ever, you can sense the horror in their faces and the stir its supposed to give you. you feel what they feel. best performance of stravinsky ever
I just saw this last night at the Music Center in Los Angeles and I can't get enough. I would see this many many times over. It was superb and I will never forget this performance.
Just seen them at the Sadlers' Wells..... beautiful. The first notes of the music and steps of the women dancers brought tears to my eyes.
those dancers are amazing. their power, their expression. got goosebumps all over my body. wish i could see them live.
Großartig 🎉❤
