You'll be in trouble when you listen to Go Rest High on That Mountain. Bring LOTS of tissues. This is true to the original but elevates it with their gorgeous harmonies. Beautiful reaction!
Your emotions are the exact right way to feel for a normal human being. Whether you know it or not, our country is a first in human history. Many people have died fighting for the right to live as freely as we do. It hasn't been the norm in human history and there have been many extreme cases of mass cruelty, murder, and oppression, even just in the past century around the world. It's the reality of our blessings that you're connecting with.
You can't help but be emotional about a man about die from his war injuries, speaking from his heart. You did about as good as anyone could. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
How can a human being not become emotional, when you start thinking about the more than a million men and women that died so that you have the freedom to listen to the national anthem, pledge allegiance to the flag, go to church or not. Thank you for the video!
I think what makes it hit so hard is that it's not really about patriotism, but about a soldier's hard experience in war and his brotherhood with his squad/team. It feels less theoretical and more directly real and personal.
This is a very raw and emotional cover. I’m an avid fan of Home Free and have been for a little over a decade. Tim and Chance’s low bass voices lend well to this song. Tim came in strong at the beginning with that low bass voice. It’s a beautiful and haunting version. The backing harmonies were gorgeous, as well. I hope you will jump down the rabbit hole of their UA-cam channel. They are so diverse and an amazing group. They’ve covered many genres, but with a contemporary country flair with some. I am new to your channel, so even though you said this was your first reaction to them, the song made you feel something. That is human nature at its best. Nothing wrong with that.
Hauntingly beautiful yet sends a powerful message. With all five singing without beatboxing drives that message home. They remind me of a pipe organ at the climax.
Don’t apologize for having emotions and feelings or thinking about others- I was the same way the first time I watched this video, can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen it since though because it is that well done
Thanks for your raw honesty! You might also enjoy their collaboration with Lee Greenwood and the USAF Singing Sargaents doing "God Bless the USA" Stunningly beautiful version!
J - Thank you. Some times, reactions to songs don't require many words...this is one of those songs. "Beautiful" and "sombre" cover what needs to be said. Your tears said the rest. Veterans Day is the day we thank those who put on the uniform, served, and returned home to hang up that uniform and return to civilian life. It is a different celebration than Memorial Day...when we honor those who never got to take off their uniforms -- paying the ultimate price for our freedom. There are many American military veterans around us -- men and women of all ages. They haven't always been well-treated by the public, particularly Viet Nam era vets. They were sent to do terrible jobs...along with their brothers in arms. Thank them for their service.
Nice reaction!! ❣ Home Free treated this presentation with a high degree of respect, it was very sobering and intentionally dwelling on those who have given all. Also, pointing out the desire for PEACE not war as those fighting are put into harm’s way by those who are making the decisions that take the lives others. Their video was well done, simple but very purposeful in the reflection of those who gave all and reflecting on those still serving. Thank You Home Free!!! ❤🩹💯 No need to apologize for the emotion they evoke with their exceptional vocalization that makes you think instruments and insane harmonies are all happening at times you are not expecting or prepared to encounter as they bring the words alive in way you have never heard before. Their arrangements are sensationally good and they own the presentation in a new way that just wow you!!! They simply take a cover and make it new and make it better every time.💫
I started following you a year ago when you started listening to REN but this is and will always be my favorite song thank you for being a reactor ❤❤❤❤
With Home Free this wont be your only reach for the tissues, and that's okay, I appreciate your honest and raw show of emotions. I haven't seen a reactor yet that couldn't hold back the dam on this song. God Bless, I hope you get l better.
J - Your son would enjoy a trip to Baltimore, MD to visit Fort McHenry. It's a moving experience to stand there on the ramparts an look out over the harbor where the British ships were positioned to bombard the fort. The National Aquarium is also located near the harbor, and is very interesting for kids!
Having a son will bring that out of you. I have brothers and my grandfather, father, brother and nephew all served. Thankfully they were all ok. My grandfather was poisoned by mustard gas by the Germans but he survived it. This song is amazing. So beautiful. The Dire Straits version is more guitar driven where this is voice driven. Loved the echoes and the boys looked like ghosts by the windows. Good reaction!!!
ANZAC diggers from The Great War 1914-1918 (the war to end all wars) would say - remember our fallen brothers but do not glorify us or war. 'Lest We Forget'. I fear the sentiment is lost, the horror and futility forgotten, the memories turned to pride. I see a loving, protective, intelligent mother. Your children are lucky to have you. Guide them well. 🤍
Actually, Home Free is doing a cover of a Finnish a Capella group, Club for Five’s, arrangement of the Dire Straits original. Tim reached out to them to ask their permission before they did it

You know this was the best reaction I have seen i feel your crying and just face said more than word. I think it a song that doesn't need to be disturb much anyway to get full affect of it. Thanks
“Those heroes that shed their blood And lost their lives. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side Here in this country of ours, You, the mothers, Who sent their sons from far away countries Wipe away your tears, Your sons are now lying in our bosom And are in peace After having lost their lives on this land they have Become our sons as well”. - Mustafa Kemal Ataturk 1934.... I posted this somewhere else before but it seems appropriate for this day.
Heartfelt reactions are the best. You did great. Be sure to check out the original Dire Straits version, it's so amazing. I'm 60, a former Infantry soldier, and it takes a lot to squeeze an emotional response out of me. This dang song gets to me every time, and I've listened to it a lot over the years. Meat Loaf did a song called "OBJECTS IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR MAY APPEAR CLOSER THAN THEY ARE" ua-cam.com/video/3jPMv9zJ1LE/v-deo.html that gets to me, also. And of course, Johnny Cash's cover of "HURT", but that one doesn't count because it gets to everybody. Lovely reaction, hon. Glad you discovered this song and Home Free. Their cover of "MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW" is fantastic, too.
MOCS was her introduction to HF! That reaction video is here: ua-cam.com/video/tpP1Mvgs8BM/v-deo.html It's also the most popular (by a wide margin) video on this channel.
Hi Jessie... what wonderful, emotional and heartfelt reaction to this masterpiece of a song. But as great as it is, you should definitely check out the original song and music video by Dire Straits ! At least equally impressive as this cover here. Have you seen my suggestion for November on p. ? Best wishes from Germany to TX : Gerry PS : And please, Jessie... never be ashamed for your tears... they make your reaction even more authentic !
It really saddens me that out of over 120 totally awesome songs Band Maid has done, you've only heard 2! Why don't you try some more. They've just released one from their brand new album Epic Narratives. Forbidden Tale. ua-cam.com/video/EiknA3mWivA/v-deo.htmlsi=7aU0dNNhY_9f37ID

A real reaction, many thanks.
Young lady, that was one of the best reactions to this song. You did a great job!

As a US Army vet I wanted to thank you for the honest snd emotional reaction.
Another song on this topic by Home Free is Traveling Soldier. Puts it on an individual level. Also emotional.
This video is just hauntingly beautiful! Your facial expressions and emotions said it all...no words were needed!
I too am an Army vet and I thank you for your reaction. You said more by just showing your feelings than any amount of words could say! Thank You !

That goes without saying. That and their collab with Don McLean doing American Pie for the 50th anniversary are iconic.

A very good and true reaction to the emotional message of the song.
Don't apologize for being human. I believe I've cried every time I've seen and heard this video.
Beautiful reaction! Patriotic and human feelings...nothing wrong with either.

Nice cover, but the original simply cannot be beaten on any level. If you haven't heard it, you should.
Personally I like the cover by Home Free better--that said the original is excellent.
