It's so interesting to hear the difference in enthusiasm. Sure, hindsight is 20-20, but still. The last time I heard Kev talk about BvS, he said something like "I've watched that movie a dozen times, hoping to find the thing that'll make me like the movie, it just hasn't happened."
"That movie will make 2 billion, mark my words!" If anyone else is curious, according to Box Office Mojo, Batman V Superman grossed $873,634,919 worldwide.
Kevin used to say 2 billion about almost every movie he was hyped right around the time Avengers became a success. Until Last Jedi, since then he seems to have started to be a bit more realistic actually never saying Endgame would hit it let alone beat avatar. In this case if you look at the talk online after the comic con trailer it was on track to hit about 1.5, since at that point it was the most viewed trailer with almost universal positive response, then the doomsday trailer came, lowering expectations to 1.2. And then it turned out to be a dumster fire. So the people who were expected to be 2-4 times repeat customers like what happened with tdk and tdkr didn't bother giving it a second chance in hopes they didn't get it. But even the ultimate edition couldn't save the fact that while it looked great and had the best batman fight scene ever put to film. You could see it on youtube and wb didn't think that it would hurt the movie gambling on the 2 hour build up to a 10 minute fight that makes no sense would be the main attraction.
To be fair Kevin thinks every film will make a billion dollars. He says stuff like 'you put the name Batman in a film and people will turn up just for that' forgetting the films of the 90's showed that definitely isn't true. He's an eternal optimist, and sometimes his over enthusiasm can be a bit annoying, but as he himself has pointed out, better to be excited about everything than think everything is shit, because at least he's happy and there is no joy in criticising absolutely everything. All those who have made angry UA-cam videos about the last two Star Wars films, they're not happy people.
The day that news broke, I remember feeling so confused as to why WB picked Ben to play the role of Batman haha. But yeah, I long for the days of when people complained about the casting of Batman or Batfleck in this case haha.
An old human custom known as applause. It happens when people collectively group together and agressively slap their hands together to create sound and spread germs.
This is 100% one of my favorite episodes ever! I remember listening to this 7 years ago when I moved to Texas! This is great! Did they film everything the whole time?
I literally just left the Cumberland Farms where that cardboard Hasslehoff thing happened. The clerk actually lived two doors down from me but they have since moved. He was in a coma for a couple of months if i remember correctly.
@@chrisytfc879 Yeah, no he wasn’t at all. I understand that the concept of a “comic accurate Batman” is sort of broad, but generally, no, Batman didn’t start killing after Jason died, which is the canon for Affleckverse
No, he did an OK job. There was nothing great about his performance in either film. At the end of the day, he was just a dude who never read a comic book in his entire life playing a serial killer in a rubber suit, which is absolutely nothing like the character.
hey kevin smith do you know where i can find a costume of silent bob because I want to be silent bob this year for Halloween to show off to my friends.
Hey, Kev. Any chance we could see some more old-school stuff from you guys? I remember watching non-stop that Dark Knight Rises Review both of you did. One of my favourite videos in all of UA-cam. Ralph's Michael Caine impression had me in tears. Any Fatman on Batman would be great but that's the one that has stuck with me the most. Please, man.
Superman v Batman did not make anywhere close to 2 billion dollars, and when the movie launched Kevin did what he always does; he pretended to absolutely love it for a while, then years later he shits all over it. He did the same thing with Man of Steel and Justice League, and he'll do the same thing with Star Wars. I love the guy, but I wish he could be objective in real time.
Why does Kevin repeatedly make that stupid Affleck / Jaws comparison? It's illogical, and Affleck's not even that great of an actor. He's fine, but find a different character to compare him to.
The movie's hot garbage but batfleck was alright. It still boggles my mind how horribly they fucked that movie up. that shoulda been the easiest movie to make.
Can we all call an end to immediately saying X actor is the worst (or best) thing ever? It happens ALL the time and then in hindsight everyone says I love that actor as X character! I could never see another one, this is the best version... (or worst, etc) Every, single, time. For fuck's sake people, just wait to SEE the movie and THEN judge it for what it is.

Not as bad as Justice League.

Is this good or bad
I feel like this was only a couple years ago. Insane how fast it went by.
This was my first HBO podcast episode I listened for the first time when it came out :)
I need for Kevin Smith to be the new cameo in my Marvel movies
OMG.... Yes. Please. :)
Connery loves Scotland so much that he’s lived permanently in Spain for years
Ye wud tho haha
Wow. When the world cared about who played Batman next. Simpler times.
Yeah, because no one cares about Robert Pattinson's Batman
Not even a pandemic can stop people from complaining about stupid shit online
The day that news broke, I remember feeling so confused as to why WB picked Ben to play the role of Batman haha. But yeah, I long for the days of when people complained about the casting of Batman or Batfleck in this case haha.
Words of wisdom man
27:42 Best acting Kevin has ever done, brilliant. xD
15:58
Ahhh the infamous prediction Kevin Smith made...
Holy Shit I was at this show and a part of the Shout-out at 28:36 I had no idea they even shot this. I’m so fucking happy this exists.
What is that eerie sound at the start? It sounds so strange, yet familiar at the same time

This is 100% one of my favorite episodes ever! I remember listening to this 7 years ago when I moved to Texas! This is great! Did they film everything the whole time?
True dat. 😷
This is better than taking the DeLorean back in time
I love all these older shows.
Thank You
Welcome to the Schmodown Kevin, I cannot wait to see you play on the Quirky Mercs team !
This is why i watch movie fights
Hey yo rock on.
At 13:24 yeah didn’t age well with the whole “Martha” still love me batfleck tho
Feels like it never even started.
I literally just left the Cumberland Farms where that cardboard Hasslehoff thing happened. The clerk actually lived two doors down from me but they have since moved. He was in a coma for a couple of months if i remember correctly.
Affleck actually played Superman in a film about George Reeves, which hardly anyone saw.
Hollywoodland was a great movie on it's own merits (Diane Lane getting the research in...)
AWESOME! Keep pushing jason muse man, NICE to see a live version. 😷😷😷
Batfleck did hold a guy over the edge of a building in Justice League. Kevin's predictions are only good when he doesn't proclaim them as such.
Kevin Smith in EVERY MARVEL FILM FOREVER
I love you, keep killin' em'.
I still stand by Affleck as Batman people hate on the movie but Ben did nothing wrong
Affleck was the bomb in BvS! now we're stuck with Matt Reeves take (It might be great, but I want Ben back(I now it will never happen)
It's.....the Old World.....so strange to see these in color...... Thank the Lord for Kev and Ralph!
When talking about Downey Jr. it wosn't just Iron-man, there was Kiss-kiss Bang-bang, Tropic thunder(!), Zodiac, THEN Sherlock etc.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was awesome
Ben Affleck was my favorite Batman. The movies were OKAY. But he was the most comic accurate Batman in terms of the vibe.
Didn't he murder loads of people in BvS though, that's not very Batman.
@@chrisytfc879 Yeah, no he wasn’t at all. I understand that the concept of a “comic accurate Batman” is sort of broad, but generally, no, Batman didn’t start killing after Jason died, which is the canon for Affleckverse
I hope Garmin has re-watched this and seen just how wrong he was about Batfleck. Dude did a great job on the character.
*leans in close to mic* WRONG
No, he did an OK job. There was nothing great about his performance in either film. At the end of the day, he was just a dude who never read a comic book in his entire life playing a serial killer in a rubber suit, which is absolutely nothing like the character.
Email from Liverpool woooo
Saw Bryan Callen there a few years back. Great venue.
hey kevin smith do you know where i can find a costume of silent bob because I want to be silent bob this year for Halloween to show off to my friends.
Bro just buy a long coat and a hat
Kevin I love your movie tusk 2014
Martyn Tully I know why it’s about him becoming a walrus
anyone know why there's been no Classic HBO uploads in 3 months?
1:19:45 Holy Shit they broke the news about Chris Hemsworth playing hulk hogan 9 years ago
Should do more rocky 🤣🤣🤣
And Ben did turn out to be a pretty good Batman... in the absolute worst movie ever to feature the character of Batman.
Even worse than Batman and Robin?
Yes. BvS took the crown. Batman & Robin may have been bad but at least it wasn't boring.
Ralph talks about Affleck to Kev the way i talk about my gf's exes to her
GARMY! GARMY! GARMY! GARMY! GARMY!
Which 2 knuckleheads gave this a "👎"? 🙁😥🤣🤣
Please cast Ben Affleck as the moose in Moose Jaws !
2 billion eh? 😂 lol j/k we all thought that.. simpler times
MARTHA!!!
Zabba zabba
Kevin...what say you now about Bat-Fleck?
🔔🔛🔔
Batman v Superman actual Gross: $873.6 M
Not quite $2 Billion, Kev...

Drink every time Kevin touches his face
two years old
imagine telling them in 2020 that the gay kid from twilight would be playing batman.
you would be thrown out of there so fast ...........
Look back at this now it's very clear...Ralph Garman 1 Kevin Smith 0
Kevin
