Some scams can literally take years of setting up. When I first started looking for a house in Hungary I was befriended by a bloke who was born in England to Hungarian parents. He spoke Hungarian and did a lot of interpreting for me. I had known him a couple of years before one day he said it looked like his house would be repossessed. He owed money on the mortgage and to utility companies. I agreed to lend him money on the condition that it was a legal contract and the loan would be secured against his house. He found a dodgy lawyer who did the contract but never did the securing of it against the house. I never saw him again and he never paid a penny back on the loan.
That's the worse. Sorry to hear that. I will never lend money to a friend, unless I don't expect the money back (it be like a gift). I don't give gifts either but it has to be a small amount, if I was ever to give one. Like $1,000 and that's it.

Good they are working with international police in a formal manner these days. Need the Koreans to start getting involved too, & not just on kidnappings of their citizens.
Good man for sharing this story! Don't beat yourself up for trusting someone, because you didn't grow up in an environment where people have no issues with screwing others over. To these losers, a victim of a scam is a sucker, deserving of being ripped off for his/her stupidity, as opposed to being seen as a victim who made the reasonable mistake of trusting that his significant other wouldn't betray him like that. I've heard the same stories when living in Thailand & Cambodia. What amazes me are the foreigners who shame a guy for getting screwed; because according to those same gits it'll never happen to them. Truth is, it happens almost daily to everyone. Not just the girlfriend/wife, many you come into contact with. There is a very real jealousy/envy over what a foreigner symbolizes, just as in our own countries there are people who think nothing of scamming others & blame anyone & everyone who has more for their own misfortune, as if, they grew up poor because of us. I don't know about you, but, I was just a blue-collar working guy, by choice. It all comes down to two things; How one was raised, and; how the people of a select nation view foreigners who come to their country. The "hospitality" a nation's people are known for is only skin deep; no different to working in tourism in any country. I was once in auto sales & we were expected to be polite to all customers, regardless of whether we liked the customer, or not. Truth was, the customer had money in their pocket that we wanted. That is how I intend to view things when I return to Asia; that I'm like a customer walking through an auto mall. It takes seeing the truth to develop such a jaded perspective & more guarded demeanour.
Sad that this story seems to be more common in the PH than finding a good and honest relationship. At least her father had some integrity to scold her. But, her misson was accomplished except for the continuing cash flow to pay her big spending debts. Though she ended up with plenty assets to take care of that. Must be careful in trusting our emotions. Glad you made a good recovery.

It's a shame, truly, the lengths to which they will go to get your money.
I always assumed a dowry was intended to compensate the parents.
Appreciate the honesty! We have all gotten scammed to some degree. Wishing success in fhe future
Sad that situations like that happen. At the level of the scam that you describe, she was not the only player in the game. Long distance relationships to any female in any country is always a buyer beware scenario.
I think LDR men send way more money over to the Philippines than OFW! What do you think?
@@stevesilver7437 Most likely, because they probably have more disposable income than an OFW. I wouldn't know personally, because my Filipina Mrs. and I just had anniversary #33 back in October. We predate today's LDR crowd by decades.

Scammer, the end.
Happy new year my friend
Thanks for sharing Sir. Just stumbled across this. I'm an FBI agent that works/coordinates with the Philippine government in fraud, trafficking and terror cases. This happens more than you know. Thanks for sharing so that others may learn. I will be heading back in the near future....more interesting things to look into. Stay safe.
Good they are working with international police in a formal manner these days. Need the Koreans to start getting involved too, & not just on kidnappings of their citizens.
FBI agent. Right. Show us your badge!

We have all done stupid shit, takes guts to make a video about it.
Great video. Thank you for your honesty. I will be avoiding living in the Philippines. Too much potential for fraud.
Infatuation is a complete derangement of logical mental function, no major decisions should ever by made when one is in this state of mind.
Don't ever invest money in a country that you are an outsider and you have no right of ownership. It's ignorant.
I was scammed as well, all the family were in on it, a British man acquaintance said to me about 20 years ago "it's their cottage industry" we laughed, but he was right.

A house next to a bunch of Filipino in Canada?
"Them"?
@@stevesilver7437 There are quite a few there. There are a little under 3 million of them in the US.
@@terrydawson2239 By ‘them’ he is referring to Filipinos, we come from the Philippines some are OFWs others are ex-wives of journey men. We are mostly like little clones of each other and are either the “mountain type” or the River type”. Some have a slight mix of a few percent of the invaders from the old days that had sex with the local pretty girls before the grew old and turned in Ewoks. These invaders would be the Chinese, Spanish, American and more recently Australians Arabs and now Koreans. Eventually they are mostly (98…%) bred back to being mountain or river people. We are totally tribal and stick together and have the ability to back each other up against any other usurper from a foreign land especially if the money is big. We can get happy very fast when all together with a few foreigners around to pay San Miguel for the Red Horse.
@@stevesilver7437There are a lot of Filipinos in Canada. I have known many and the ones I have known were all awesome people. That said, I've never had any business dealings so on that I can't say. Three different friends of mine have Filipino wives in Canada, all 3 had good marriages, only 1 with divorce, which was amicable and financially fair. One has a house in Phillippines with his wife, no issues. By and large Filipinos are my favorite immigrants in Canada. They do well here, contribute, cause no problems that I've ever heard of, unlike some other immigrants. I was a child immigrant myself (Scotland) and we were taught that it was our duty to contribute to Canada. I wish more immigrants were like that instead of looking for benefits only. I have nothing but good to say about Filipinos in Canada.

I’m sorry that happened to you. I guarantee that if this woman hadn’t been a beautiful Filipina, you would have seen her intentions from a mile away and wouldn’t have given her a second look. Learn to never judge a book by its cover, and you’ll find yourself in a much better place in life.
