Let's pretend that Dana hasn't stated 165 will not happen during his time at the helm, putting two guys with two straight losses a piece into a title fight is beyond absurd. I'm not buying it.

The UFC would want to legitimize a new division as quickly as possible so that they can once again claim to have the best fighters in the world. Handing a belt to either man doesn’t do that.
I’m sure they want to keep Mac happy, but I just don’t see them offering him a title fight without at least one win.
Dana white already said it was going to be at 170. I don't think it needs 165 or whatever belt. It dilutes 155 and 170 of talent. Alex is already close to cleaning out light heavyweight with just 4 fights. It's going to look like 115 were we get no name midcard fighters who can't draw flies, paraded around as world champions.

Why the eff does the UFC not want a 165 division? They are unable to sell fights that aren't title fights, so why are they resistant to making a new division? Just pop Welter up to 175 and it all makes sense. It would add excitement as fighters line up for title shots, and to earn title shots.
What would be the go to fight at 165 to convince the ufc to make that a division?

Heavyweight has an Interim champ that has turned down at least 4 fights over the last 8 months and the entire division has moved on. He literally could have headlined UFC 300 and instead stalked a guy at an autograph signing
There's already eight weight classes for men. If people don't have a belt it's because they aren't good enough. Is there anyone who is currently not a champion at 155 or 170 that people think would be a champion at 165? There would be too many people shifting weight classes to and from 165 that would mess up the 155/175 divisions.
No , you should be able to switch classes anytime you want , it’s better for health. This is a bad take. You’d still have to get wins like in every other division and become a title contender how would it mess up anything?

would enjoy a 165, would fit well but shooting conor right into a championship is crazy.
I think shooting any fighters into a championship is crazy. You have to have some sort of tournament at the very least so you can see fighters make that weight. But it's hard to rank a tournament with no fights at that weight class. You can't say well these two guys are the best, let them fight for the 165 belt, when we're basing that off of a heavier or lighter weight class.
Max Holloway is 1-1 at lightweight but few would hate the idea of him getting a title shot at 45 or 55. Resumes matter.

There is no 165 lb weight division so there is no discussion about it. Why would there need to be a 165 lb weight division when there is a 155 lb weight division and 170 lb weight division?

Well like high school wrestling, it would make more sense. The weight difference of 10 pounds is a noticeable difference in strength, etc obviously more so at lighter weights, but still would make more sense to have every ten pounds instead of 145,155,170,185,205

eliminate 170, make 165 + 175, make a 245 limit and add super heavyweight, then make a tournement across a couple events with current champs and contenders to crown champs of the new classes

Dana announced the fight as a 170 bout. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if Dana switches it last minute to shake up the fans.
the fight has been officially announced so I will confidently say the fight will happen whether they have signed the dotted line or not.

165 will happen, but they’d have to move 170 up to 175. And champ champ can only be offered after a minimum of three or four defenses. There has to be a recognized criteria for attaining champ champ because it’s dominating too much conversation from undeserving candidates

The greatest thing that could possibly happen to the UFC would be if Conor returned, destroyed Chandler, and was given the opportunity to face Islam for the title. That would recreate the entire drama that surrounded Conor vs. Khabib.
I'm not being realistic when I say this, but imagine this: Conor knocks out Islam and then taunts Khabib in the ring. Do you guys think it would be enough to get Khabib back into the UFC?

A 165lbs weight class makes no sense at all. If the UFC are going to add any new weight division it needs to be between 185lbs and 205lbs

They won't make a 165 lb title, but I won't be surprised if the UFC fabricates another BMF title or some variant of that since they'll be headlining without a championship on the line.
Here's what I don't like about Conors leg. That the other opponent knows this. And can start kicking it. Like what happened to Chris Weidman in his return fight. 😕 That's why I'd like to see this fight, because at least Chandler throws his hands a lot. I like Conor. He can do whatever the hell he wants. But if he chooses to fight. This MMA stuff is dangerous unless he's fighting guys like Max Holloway style of fighting. Otherwise I wouldn't blame him if he went into Boxing for a big payday. Stays healthy. And doesn't even really need to fight if he doesn't want to. He loves MMA. But if I was him. I'd choose Boxing if he wants to fight and make a HUGE PAYDAY 🤷

It's so much fun how huge an irrelevant fight is. I hope it sucks all the air out of everything until we all lose our minds and become casuals as if the last 30 years of MMA never happened as if this is the only thing that has ever mattered in the world of MMA. Be funny if the fight even delivered anywhere near that level of insanity which it kind of can't. I mean Conor blitzes someone or he loses except for one fight. Diaz/McGreggor 2 and why? Because he had a multi-million-dollar deal with Mayweather riding on it. He went into full four alarm all hands mode even refused to do some of the press. So, for whatever reason when it's that important to both fighters and to Nate it was because his new life as a big star had just begun based on this and he really doesn't like Conor or didn't. Is there any way we could get that here, that level of desire on both parties? Doubt it but we might get something like it.

A. 170 becomes practically useless.
B. With lightweights moving up and welterweights cutting down, expect a 30-40 pound weight difference on fight night.
