I know some people will wonder why I just don't use an ESP-12 for the whole thing. I could, it would be fairly easy to do it all but I reckon the DIP ICs will fit the look more and present a challenge that I will enjoy more.
I would argue pure TTL or transistors would be "more old school" but I get your point. :-) At least he's using an UNO design instead of yet another RPi.
Have you ever tried a ds3231 module? The interface is very similar. It requires no external crystal and it is accurate to within one minute per year. I built a clock with one four years ago and I haven’t bothered to set it since then. Amazing
Great video. Hey, what about using a distance detector so that when you wave your hand in front of it, it toggles between HH:MM and MM:SS. Just an idea.
Unfortunately my semi-transparent acrylic isn't quite big enough to cover the six digits. What is that saying about measuring twice? I probably should have done that 😂
David Watts loses confidence once a day :( Sad reacts only! Hey David, as a suggestion, mount the displays flat on the board instead of an angle, and then hand the entire thing on the wall like an art piece :D Power the whole thing from a USB phone charger or somesuch
Yeah, it's is one of those things I know but can't train myself to do i real-time unfortunately. If I read 4k7 I would be fine but handwriting, while terrible, is kind of automatic.

Nice old skool with an Uno! Not everything needs wifi!! Can't wait to see the results David!

I have, the d23231 is great. If only it came in a DIP package, far superior to the ds1307.
why do you need a dip package?
I don't need a DIP package, I just want it for aesthetic reasons.
This ic is pogram requirment
ds1307 was my choice also to my clock. Really easy to use.
ua-cam.com/video/INMng0ajG-Y/v-deo.html Just a little test video from that clock.
Nice project David! I was wondering what you were going to do with your stash of Segliment displays :-)
Don't hold your breath, it could look -terrible- amazing

Thanks! I best get soldering so I can move onto the code.
Mount the devices diagonally across the board and you might get 6 on😍

Seglament or Segmented: see in the title. peace

I am not sure what you mean by the first part. But I like the idea of mounting them flat on the board, that is a really interesting idea.
Can you write 4K7 instead of 4.7K - it stops you losing the '.'

what kind of mic do you use?
Hey, I use a JK MIC-J 044 Lavalier Microphone coupled with an external recorder.
