Although most advocate scapular retraction. I feel as though protraction is healthier for the shoulder and more conducive for hypertrophy in that it activates the pecs more.
Good info as always man. Loving the frequent uploads. Videos always informative. I’ll def give the shoulder protraction a try on my light days
Those traps are popping during OHP😍
Everytime I watch your video there is always something new to learn.
“Upper hyperrrrrrrrrtrophy day” haha! Love the consistent uploads man!
Alright I’m sold, gimme that group coaching homie. 🙌🙌
First! I've been experimenting with slight active scapula movement lately and its going great
Great info as always
One thing I've noticed about protraction is that you invariably see it in strongmen when they bench. Watch a video of Brian Shaw and you'll see very similar movement to your Larsen press. I think it's probably because strongmen are more in tune with their scapula from all the OHP work and are better at controlling their scapula than most powerlifters.
I'm not a powerlifter, more of a bodybuilder these days, and I have gone away completely from competition style bench. My chest work mostly comes through incline DB work with and scapular movement and cable flyes with a lot of scapular protraction, and my longstanding pec tendonitis is finally getting better.
Proper scapular retraction takes plenty of control
Bruh I’ve been telling people for years that protracting AND retracting are key to staying safe on the bench. People go ham on the retraction, and put their pec minor at risk.
That whole “pure retraction” cue has to die. This is the kind of information that has me referring people to this channel as a solid source of info. Very non cookie cutter
how does it put the pec minor at risk? Cos its on constant stretch?
First thing I do when I get to a bench is straighten it out. I cannot understand how people use them the way I usually find them. I cannot press heavy weight if I take it off the rack uneven.
Its a shame too with this one its a comp spec ghost strong and it can be found at meets. Ill bet there would be alot of pissed off people if they had to bench off that in a comp
Bro; u look like a bodybuilder now
Those delts looking huge
First. Do you think the group coaching would be good a fix mirrors technical issues like hips shooting up in the squat
Isn’t it hard to do on a bench though?
Any good mental cues for maintaining or ensuring scapular retraction during the ROM?
Does anyone know why he doesn't set his feet?
🔝
Pure retraction destroyed my pecs
Most controversial title to date
Wtf are you talking about this is not protraction
This is protraction.
Thanks bro smart reply. I'm in graduate school for pt. You have your spine depressed and retracted for the majority of the lift. You are flaring your lats and barely protracting them saying it's protraction. You don't maintain an arch with protraction see Atlas Stone lifting. This is not a good way to educate people as to what it is.
“I’m in graduate school”
@BrendanTietz Yes, that means I was accepted to become a doctor with a 3.9 GPA in the sciences with the focus intent/accelerated program and active employment in rehab science, with actual shown practice of treating injury rehab already. People in graduate school for At snd Pt are employed in the field. It's not like I'm an academic only physicist "I'm head coach." Stay in your lane you aren't a medical professional with an exercise phys degree. You aren't being smart or teaching anyone anything. This isn't education, it's just sensationalized content for your UA-cam channel, and you don't appreciate being called out by someone who knows better than to believe this bs so you can make money off naive people who don't know better.
I only listen to 4.0 GPAs
