Shaitaan Movie Review by Anupama Chopra | Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, Jyotika | Film Companion

- Experience the chilling depths of 'Shaitaan' where R. Madhavan, in a standout performance, portrays an intruder from hell. Unravel the dark narrative as Vanraj, a black magic connoisseur, inflicts unimaginable torment on a hapless family. Director Vikas Bahl explores the eerie atmosphere of a farmhouse, echoing classic horror tropes. As parental love clashes with supernatural horrors, 'Shaitaan' takes you on a rollercoaster of fear and suspense. Is the family able to replicate the terror we see in their eyes, to the one the audience feels while watching the same? Find out in our review, and tell us how you liked the film in the comments below.

Maddy plays an entity that overtakes and makes a child insane In short he plays social media
😂😂
Ha ha
So true !!!
Meanwhile you posting this in yet another social media
Good to see nowadays the so called protagonist are trying to play the antagonist in films and they are pulling it off in style... Maddy the so called chocolate boy has been experimenting with this kind of roles is so enduring fun to watch....
@@sivaprakashpurushothaman8336 Maddy s played a villain 4 times
Janki Bodiwala stole the show for me. Great Hindi debut. What an actress❤
Read it as bosdiwala
Silly movie but quite entertaining. All Ajay needed to do was tie Madhavan's mouth and hands with a duct tape or cloth in the beginning of the movie and the chaos that ensued could have been completely avoided.
Or even better mother could have blocked Janvi's ears 👂 while father beat the shit out of humanoid Shaitaan.
This is an old adage that holds true. Whether with Snow White, Rapunzel's mother etc...its a great trope highlighting "stranger danger"
No, just no. It’s a great lesson across parenting, having values (and standing up for them), among others.
Highly recommend you start peeling back the onion more, it will really enrich your life. “Bro” (as the desis say)
R Madhavan is a complete actor: Great actor, Star Presence, Amazing range of characters, and most importantly a phenomenal human being outside the screen!! I really hope you call him to a film companion gathering!
I don't understand Anupama Chopra at all nowadays. The movie is a delight to watch. Eerie and Terrifying, with ample twists and turns. I have watched the movie and it's a must watch in Theatre. Please go and watch it!
For the first time I agree with her tbh this kind of movie is a lot of there Avilable in Netflix for reff just see Hypnotic way more complex and dark.. If I hadn't watched the Hollywood movie I would have loved it.
100% agree with her review this time, definitely the story was there and unique but it is missing the fear factor, u keep waiting for that thrill or chilling moment until climax.
It was terrifying in my opinion
I think all Indian kids are born with two things embedded in their dna.
“Always get more marks than Sharma ji’s kid”
“Never take anything from strangers”
The performance of ensemble cast makes the difference and those sarcastic comment of ajay devgan character about jyothika character and reply from son character makes sense especially in Bollywood today times where size zero is accepted as a heroine... A big slap to Bollywood where body shaming has become a tool....
Decent men? HAVE WE SEEN RHTDM?
I thought the same thing.
Never understood RHTDM being romanticised
@@spique32 It was just the songs being fun, that’s all
for the questions asked in the last part of this video - do watch VASH its far more darker and tragic and less loud
Where to watch it though? I’m unable to find it on any streaming site.
Any link?
Humbly, I disagree. Yes, it was repetitive and a back story would have been great but still, it's an entertaining one.
I understand the difficulty of Anupama to grasp the reason of things she mentions here. These tales, significance of permission for aahuti of a bali object, etc., is almost impossible for a posh urban ultra modern woman who doesn't have any relationship with rural or small town culture. Very very difficult. I truly loved the movie. Just came from theatre. Worth the watch for what R Madhavan has done.
This movie is a poor rip-off a Stanley Kubrick/Stephen King classic “The Shining” (1980). Watch the original and you will see what she means.
@@WranglerDudewtf r u talking about? The shining has a completely different plot
Bro, it's an official remake of a gujju movie, not The Shining. What the fuck are you on?
Remake of gujarati movie 'vash'
She is back again!! Worst review for a movie. If you need logic read the math/physics book.
Movies are for entertainment, don't go for logic there!!!
Her reviews are extremely biased and silly to large extent, while she has an art , speaking in a very subtle manner, but there is clear sarcasm. This movie is definitely one time watch
Really disappointed after watching it on Netflix. Made absolutely no sense and provided no answers in the third act.
First time I've to Agree on this review..Story doesn't make sense but Entertaining movie
The caption in the thumbnail is Growing Up 101.
Watched this movie a few days ago. A pretty standard fair horror movie with questionable pacing... One thing that kept my interest was the performance of the bad guy, the actor seemed to really have fun with the role and hammed up the performance just enough to where I loved to hate the guy.
The actress playing the daughter also gives a fun performance, especially in the first half of the possession. As the movie goes on, the character becomes blander and less interesting.
Honestly I thought that the supernatural aspect made the movie less impactful. If the antagonist had simply been a very manipulative intruder who used the decency of the family against them, it could have made for a far more interesting dynamic.. Him being some weird satanic demon guy felt more silly than it did scary.
I initially liked the ending, but the speech went on for too long and ended up being pretty cheesy.
its a rightly put review, exact potholes mentioned, awesome concept but a lot of mistakes
This is a movie everyone should watch, haven't seen something after Tumbard... must watch...
OUR FARHAN IS BACK
That's a wise saying 'never take food from strangers ' and anyone who doesn't like you.
Shaitaan is not a perfect movie but calling a movie made in 1980 terrifying is just so hypocritical. It was terrifying for that time, it does nothing for people watching it in 2024 so comparing Shaitaan to The Shining doesn't make any sense. For instance, you wouldn't call a TV remote technologically advanced in today's times but you would call it advanced if we were living in the 1980s. That's the difference. We are so used to seeking validation from the West, that we have stopped applying our own brains.
I respectfully don’t agree at all. This was a film that shakes you within. Amazing acting by everyone. The scene where the daughter slaps her father and the reaction by Ajay Devgn is masterpiece. Maddy makes us mad
Madhavan was too sweet to play this role...a complete letdown movie...had high expectations from the movie though..
💙💙💙💙MADDY&JANKI
ACTING WAS TOP NOTCH & all other actors also acted well ajay, jyothika
Music bgm 😱 soooo fearful
MOVIE WAS AWSOME💙💙💙💙
Lovely review mam
Watch Vash it’s far more better than this crap 🙌🏻❤️ Janki more power to you girl!
Aditya, the only crap I see is the one that came out of your mom on your birth date!
@@navrangarajan8642 please educate yourself ~ Poor Soul!
I just saw Vash today. So I am not even bothered about watching the remake!
Bang on review. Didn't closer about Madhavan's evil motives
Critics can’t appreciate any movie. Period!
Who will review this stupid review 😂, for being unable to understand the movie and have not done research properly I give this review a 0.5/5 for a movie review 😂😂
I love how Anupama says ‘Tedious’ 🥵
not a review but only comparison...
What comparison? She clearly said she hasnt watched the original
Very guud review.. I believe the casting is wrong, instead of Ajay Devgan u need someone feeble but classy like Raj kumar rao … it’s not convincing that Ajay devgan can’t just push the knife in the guy itself instead of bearing all the stuff .. strange
I didn't find Shining scary at all.
Thank god someone finally said it.😅
Madam we would love to see your take on Majumeel boys & premalu
Screenwriting masterclass - is it different than Screenplay writing or the same.
Loved the movie loved madhavan loved the possessed girl
Loved the night i decided to watch this movie❤❤❤
Good movie and best actors and actress. Worth watching ❤️
It's inspired by the novel devil rides out by Dennis Whitley...there is also a movie
The movie is absolute inane garbage, watched it for Madhavan.
Disagree with the review 100 percent. The movie was BESTTTT in every which way... 100000 starsss
3rd class acting by the mother. What a joke
Blockbuster 💯
This is remake of Gujarati film
She didnt bother to review real acting oriented good films like
Brahmayugam and manjummel boys either entertainer like premalu
Now she is comming
Please change your name of channel to reviews only hindi
How to start movie review like you 😊
Bollywood has become a remake factory😢
Only ajay devgan can pull it off outstandingly
@@theking-ir3gj what is outstanding in copying something ?
You should stop reviewing now , you don't understand Indian audiences at all
Would Anupama Ma'am be taking any course.
Your examples of logic is foolish in itself for this genre viz. Extra staff should be at home, why son calling father by name.
The implication in Supernatural Lore - is that there are loopholes/rules ie. permission statement in this case.
Although a professional reviewer should be able to provide a critique you tend to not be able to review genres outside preference. Please hand these over to your team.
she always does this when it comes to Ajay
The movie is utter nonsense 😂
Great movie. Enjoyed it
One thing is pretty clear if somebody wants to make a hit film needs to follow this channel for sure. Follow their reviews and keep in mind doing all the things that they don't like in their reviews and stay away from what they like. These people know nothing about the cinema except of comparing it to western cinema. They don't understand the culture bcoz they don't want to come out of their bubble
Worst movie of Ajay Devgan , give correct review and tell it's ugly movie.. it's waste of money and time . Worst acting and makeup of madhvan ..ajay has got wrong impression that all family movie will hit.
Hi Khushu, I strongly disagree with you and so does the box office numbers and reviews coming out. How about you write your thoughts of the movie on a paper, fold it nicely and shove it!
Why you are not reviewing manjummel boys
Pls watch manjummel boys before it is remade in hindi 😂😂😂😂
Kya bakwas review kiya hai.
Nice job on your review, “auntie”.
You provided more depth and cinematic maturity than most who absorb themselves within the Bollywood space.
Head ache is guaranteed .
Areee annu jab Tera hubbi ne patharo BN pe tilak laga kar hamare astha ko count karta hai, yaar tum ek halala topic per bhi movie nikali sakte ho, u r great on this issues, so every time we will be wAiting for u😢
Such a horrible review! The movie is such a good watch and you made it hear like crap!
Stupid movie they just had to tie his hand and keep his mouth shut
What a boring movie. Acting good but screenplay extreme snoozefest.
So. Boring. My. God.
I don't know what was in rhe food that she takes in, it spreads superstition
Bullshit review. Paid review
Agreed really stupid movie
This channel is so irrelevant so biased
“ derails into flat out foolishness “ thx for being honest Anupama . RePasting my comment on Galatta plus review of shaitaan here below : Madhavan comes across fairly ok in some roles he has played across the years and not so great in others . About 50/50. Average . To be honest if one surveys his entire work from the early days to now objectively the conclusion is he is more of a cringey c grade actor with a pitifully limited repertoire who has somehow miraculously survived all these years by sheer networking, being in the right place at the right time and aligning himself with opportunities cleverly designed to pump up an otherwise very blah ,yawn unimpressive resume of personal acting achievements . There are far better actors who have sadly not had his platform .
The man is incredibly lucky and strategic and hits a fluke with strategically good pairings with actually bonafide good actors and directors who have managed to carry him along for the ride because of his name recognition giving him the false complacency that he actually does something to make the movie a hit .
Of course the legions of his blindly loyal old fans will keep watching anything he is in, so he doesn’t really care about acting quality as long as he gets his paycheck and gets to feel like he’s working . But to the discerning movie audience who can actually spot good acting when they see it he sadly comes up empty most of the time . He always seems earnest but forced, ill suited uncomfortable and never gets into the skin of any character beyond very superficially .
But yet by the miracle of collective industry hypnosis and sucking up to the right people the man always gets work and gets richer so he can fund his many homes in different states and countries , and , sadly, continues to crank out sub par fare routinely . On the rare occasion when he has “delivered “ , in a role, it is not because he was intentional, but because he has let something natural slip through his bumbling process of technique and somehow been convincing in spite of his efforts .
He does have a pretty charismatic screen presence , and in the right script can be , well…interesting, … but it’s a minority occurrence .
Re the carefully cultivated polite persona off screen, where he tries to come off sounding like he’s more intellectual than he is , with unoriginal borrowed gyaan and quotes one can’t help feeling that he’s desperately trying too hard and is an imposter . Eg if one watches him long enough in an interview the mask slips , his practiced lines falter, and he babbles incoherently and the inconsistencies unravel and grow before our eyes .
I don’t hate the guy . Am not immune to the brand of “Maddy charm “ in the stray movie . Just Simply stating the truth of what I see in him as an entertainer which is what the public pays for. Of course my opinion is entirely subjective and I am not looking for consensus . Someone out there is most welcome to love his body of work and think he is fantastic .. just like I absolutely don’t.
Moving on, Ajay devgan is cool. Jothika while restricted to a gallery of limited facial expressions from stony to over expressive is a good actress if given the right role with scope to perform . This movie could have been something ..
And it’s clearly NOT. Maybe one of the reasons it fails is Madhavan .
Biased
Good movir
Ma'am... I bet you know nobody takes you seriously.
You better go to Hollywood and play critic there.
Pandu Chopra's wife only like feminist films. But sadly Lapataa ladies went lapataa in theatres. Vanga power
Laapata ladies is a wonderful movie if ur making it just for few people. If u want more people to watch it then they should have taken aamir khan in it. As it will.bring more audience to watch.a good movie
