The fact that the story used "Six is about to start singing" as _the cliffhanger for Part 2_ is maybe one of the funniest things Big Finish has ever done.
For anyone who doesn't get the joke, Hecate was the villain in the pilot episode of never-produced potential spin-off series 'K9 and Company', that's why the Doctor ponders whether it's canonical.
Oh I was wondering what the Hecate thing referenced. Also the "K-9 and Company" pilot is actually pretty good. It's a shame it never got made into a series.
@@Kconv1 but I think he fails to do that. This story was funny but in the end, also very, very sad. Puzzling. And the songs...I thought they were funny when I first heart them but this is...horrid. Video is nice, though.
Colin Baker tended to overact a little, which didnt play as well on TV as it does on audio drama, I didnt care for him on the show, but in the audio drama's he's my favorite Doctor by far!
For those unaware, this song is based on the song "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General" from the 1880 Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance." Reading through the comments, I think some people thought it was an original song...
This actually made me cry because the Doctor is the best of Gallifrey, they are ultimately such a good person and an exemplar, but the Time Lords so often can't see it and keep on exiling them to Earth and imprisoning them in confession dials
There were Doctor Who stage plays a while back, at least one of which was a musical (The Ultimate Adventure). The Doctor doesn't sing in it though. Big Finish has made audio versions of the plays via their "Doctor Who: The Stageplays" series.
Now all we need is for Big Finish to do a Sixth Doctor audio drama that parodies joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. I'd love to hear Colin Baker sing a song from that.
This is brilliant! Genius. I can't understand why theres only one video of it! And why there are only *Scrolls back up* 709 views!! This is brilliant. The song is genius, but thats not all. this video is absolute genius too. i loved all the clips you've used and how you've empasized everything with your birlliant use of clips. I've really enjoyed this!
+Sylderon I lost it when I heard about that. It was so great. For more Doctor Who's cast singing, I suggest "The Ballad of Russell and Julie" with Tennant, and John Barrowman singing Rhinestone Cowboy at an unrelated concert. (In rhinestone boots, no less!) ~ TDG
Apparently all of the Doctors except the First, Second and Fourth have performed in something or other (read this for more: goldenthroats.fandom.com/wiki/Doctor_Who)
When the Doctor sings, "I've overthrown Dictators like Tobias Vaughn to Mavic Chen," I find it very ironic that both characters are played by the same actor.
Big Finish's canonicity is weird because on the one hand some stuff clearly is but on the other hand so many things were clearly based on it that it's weird of The Doctor not to just go "Hmm... This feels familiar..."
This just proves my theory all along. Big Finish fleshed out the Sixth Doctor. If JNT'd done that a bit, Colin Baker would have been revered and popular. He's a fun guy, he's got a great sense of humor, he loves the show.
My god, this is so old! And just plan epic! And I doubt most new Doctor Who fans would even know this song, let alone hear it. Ah, such are memories. I was thinking of this song while I was mowing the lawn just now. What part of my brain did this suddenly pop up from? Good grief!
Hello! LOVE the video. I might be wrong, but I think instead of "fanatical" what is actually sung is "piratical." Otherwise excellent, I've been listening to this song for days! Thank you for posting.
I was listening to this audio book while on a very crowded bus. I ended up making a complete fool of myself by laughing out loud. Nothing new there then... But this song does rock!
Wonderful! Haven't heard this BF play yet, but this song is simply wonderful! Nice pictures and isn't Colin great! I wonder how long he has been practising on this! :-)
@jcamts That's actually "Revelation of the Daleks," like the last book of the Bible. In fact I remember JNT quipping that since we'd gone from "Genesis of the Daleks" to "Revelation of the Daleks," we'd been through the whole of Dalek scripture.

Also the "K-9 and Company" pilot is actually pretty good. It's a shame it never got made into a series.
Oh, thanks. I was thinking of the ship Hecate from Nightmare of Eden. And that story is definitely canonical, I thought.
Singing this song should be the new way actors audition to play the Doctor
I just love how one of the cliffhangers of this story was whether the Doctor would sing this song. Only Doctor Who could possibly get away with that!
the scariest cliff hanger I've ever experienced, quite honestly.
This is truly one of the best episodes of the audio drama, showing sometimes saving justone person, is the only thing he needs to do.
Totaly, I loved the reaction spf the Dr and the imperious Navy captain.
@@Kconv1 but I think he fails to do that. This story was funny but in the end, also very, very sad. Puzzling. And the songs...I thought they were funny when I first heart them but this is...horrid. Video is nice, though.
Colin Baker has a surprisingly good singing voice. I'm surprised, frankly.
He's appeared onstage in HMS Pinafore suitably enough
He got such a raw deal he was such a great doctor. Inspired the Joker's wardrobe obviously😉
I believe he's got a background in musical theatre
Ultimate adventure (a stage play) had musical numbers, although I don't remember if Collin sang
Great inside joke, mentioning Tobias Vaughn and Mavic Chen together; they were both played by Kevin Stoney!
And this is why I love the Doctor Who Extended Universe
I like how the clip of the Doctor being multilingual was a rather infamous clip of Tom Baker speaking gibberish and passing it off as Chinese, lol!
i met colin baker and sang this to him!!!!! he recognised it instantly and sang along!!!!
Thats fantastic!
9 years later and it's still hilarious
This was the moment when I really started liking the Sixth Doctor. This may be Colin Baker's finest moment.
This definitely increases Colin Baker's awesomeness to even higher levels.
This audio drama made me a fan of theSixthDoctor, he deserved so much better than the episodes he was in
his episodes were great
So you agree that they were great, but that's not enough for you?
And they even gave him a good send off
Just judging their TV stories, it's Davison who had the weaker stories, not Colin.
Colin Baker tended to overact a little, which didnt play as well on TV as it does on audio drama, I didnt care for him on the show, but in the audio drama's he's my favorite Doctor by far!
This proves Colin can sing
2:19 did he...did he just break the fourth wall? Oh well. It’s doctor who, it does what it wants
Troughton was so great!
Dr Who and the Pirates is actually wonderful.
this is a antidepressant. period.
The story it is from itself, on the whole, may not be, though.
It's a good story, it just gets surprisingly dark deeper in.
This was my first Doctor Who audio serial.
What an introduction!
For those unaware, this song is based on the song "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General" from the 1880 Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance." Reading through the comments, I think some people thought it was an original song...
😳
"Not sure if that's canonical." I love it.
2:13 second Doctor hiding behind the third Doctor 😂😂
Certified hood classic
Nobody could sing this better than Colin. He has a great vocabulary.
The Voice at the beginning isn't Peri! It's Evelyn Smythe, an audio only companion.
Adam Unwin there isn't exactly any video of Evelyn to use though
@@lewisconroy6225 Still, a picture would have sufficed.
It's imperative that everyone watch this every day at least 7 times
Rassilon? Assilon... Bassilon
THAT PART THERE XD
This actually made me cry because the Doctor is the best of Gallifrey, they are ultimately such a good person and an exemplar, but the Time Lords so often can't see it and keep on exiling them to Earth and imprisoning them in confession dials
Can we PLEASE get an entire episode of Doctor Who that is a musical?! It’s LONG OVERDUE!!!!!
There were Doctor Who stage plays a while back, at least one of which was a musical (The Ultimate Adventure). The Doctor doesn't sing in it though. Big Finish has made audio versions of the plays via their "Doctor Who: The Stageplays" series.
I love it. awesome twist on "model of a modern major general" :D
I have got to stop procrastinating my homework. ...*proceeds to watch this three more times*
The cliffhanger where the Doctor was about to sing is quite possibly the scariest cliffhanger ever!
The subtitles are having a hell of a time...
BUT IT NEVER MISSPELLS GALLIFREYAN AND I LOVE THAT xD
Hahaha. That's fantastic. Wish I'd known about this song - it must have been wonderful to edit a video to it.
"Monsters that I _put a lot of hassle on_" would have been a more hilarious rhyme.
Now all we need is for Big Finish to do a Sixth Doctor audio drama that parodies joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. I'd love to hear Colin Baker sing a song from that.
Boy have I got some news for you.
As a fan of the big finish audios, I couldn't help but love this video. Great editing, especially in the first few seconds, so funny.
This is brilliant! Genius. I can't understand why theres only one video of it! And why there are only *Scrolls back up* 709 views!!

As a Doctor Who fan and a Pirates of Penzance fan this was excellent and the fact that it was Doctor Who Colin Baker that sung it .. excellent.
I wonder if any of the other doctors could sing...well, Pertwee, of course.
+Sylderon I lost it when I heard about that. It was so great.
For more Doctor Who's cast singing, I suggest "The Ballad of Russell and Julie" with Tennant, and John Barrowman singing Rhinestone Cowboy at an unrelated concert. (In rhinestone boots, no less!)

And apparently Tennant and Whittaker sing
as well....at least for charity.
Apparently all of the Doctors except the First, Second and Fourth have performed in something or other (read this for more: goldenthroats.fandom.com/wiki/Doctor_Who)

This is just ..... Fantastic this sums up why I love the sixth doctor
Colin Baker reminds me it's always good to March to the beat of your own drum no matter what😉
I love Doctor Who and the pirates
It is beautiful and perfect in every way
Bless Big Finish
Superb job finding and editing all the video to illustrate the song - well done, and thanks!!!!
When the Doctor sings, "I've overthrown Dictators like Tobias Vaughn to Mavic Chen," I find it very ironic that both characters are played by the same actor.
This is a really great video. The clips are perfectly timed with the sun, it's extremely clever editing.
It's the amazing Evelyn Smythe, the sixth doctor's Big Finish companion (played by Maggie Stables).
THIS. IS. ABSOLUTELY. PERFECT. ("...and Earth once more." always makes me laugh--even listening to the Big Finish audio.)
I have no words for how beautifully funny this is. Song as well as accompanying video.
Is this canonical? I'm not sure... (Of course it is, it is big finish)
@@gwenburchell516 Big finish is canon
Probably them being meta... they do rather make fun of themselves on occasion.
Big Finish's canonicity is weird because on the one hand some stuff clearly is but on the other hand so many things were clearly based on it that it's weird of The Doctor not to just go "Hmm... This feels familiar..."

The Doctor sings a line about sailing the oceans of the moon.
Over a decade later The Tides of the Moon gets released.
Coincidence or time travel?
OMG! This is absolutely awesome! Well done for putting that together - I don't envy you the editing on it!!
This made my evening. This is so cool! Definitely being favved.
My god, this is so old! And just plan epic! And I doubt most new Doctor Who fans would even know this song, let alone hear it. Ah, such are memories. I was thinking of this song while I was mowing the lawn just now. What part of my brain did this suddenly pop up from? Good grief!
AWESOME!!!!! WOW, I LOVE COLIN BAKER!
I just watched this like 6 times and it made me ridiculously happy. :-D bravo Colin baker
OMG! Why haven't I found this before now. Good Show!
I LOVE the song.
gosh, i love this guy x)
great clip, too ^^
Wonderful stuff from Colin
I can't stop watching.
Really good! Very well done! :) :D
Hello! LOVE the video. I might be wrong, but I think instead of "fanatical" what is actually sung is "piratical." Otherwise excellent, I've been listening to this song for days! Thank you for posting.
Great work, this song (in fact the whole of The Pirates) has been crying out for vids to be made.
I love this so much! It's so funny and brilliant. I have to buy the audio story...
I have watched this to many times today.
It's Evelyn Smythe, a companion in the Big Finish audios!
This is my favourite thing ever.
Colin Baker has been my second favorite doctor since I first saw him and his jacket, but after this he and matt smith are tied for first,
And people complain about the musical episode?
I absolutly love this!
I was listening to this audio book while on a very crowded bus. I ended up making a complete fool of myself by laughing out loud. Nothing new there then... But this song does rock!
this is amazing. it makes me very happy ^.^
Today's the first time I hear this song but somehow it sounds so very familliar it frightened me--
And I might add, this is AWESOME!!! Baker performed Gilbert and Sullivan when he was in college, so I'm sure he loved doing this. :-)
Oh god, laughed so hard at the Hecate joke.
Who else has come back here after seeing gazda's Still D.R.E. Remix of Gallifreyan Buccaneer?
Here's a fun fact: Tobias Vaughn and Mavic Chen is both played by the same actor.
Great video!! Good job!!
Makes me wonder if there should be a "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major Brigadier" song forthcoming...
How have I only found this now thanks UA-cam recommendations
OMGGG!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!
YOU DESERVE ALL THE AWARDS
Can anyone else name every single episode that was used in this music video?
hm im slightly worried by the view count...666?! love the video and song :)
Just awesome!
Wonderful! Haven't heard this BF play yet, but this song is simply wonderful! Nice pictures and isn't Colin great! I wonder how long he has been practising on this! :-)
I just love it.
Awesome.
"Hmm...not sure if that's canonical..."
Well, when i clicked on the link it wasn'y exactly what i was expecting.....
it was better! xxx
no, no, now I will have this song in my head for the rest of the day...
@jcamts That's actually "Revelation of the Daleks," like the last book of the Bible.
In fact I remember JNT quipping that since we'd gone from "Genesis of the Daleks" to "Revelation of the Daleks," we'd been through the whole of Dalek scripture.
Awesome!!!!!!
Very funny,and entertaining!!!!
Artwork. i love it. perfect.
Brilliant!
My favourite big finish audio :D
He does quite a good job of it, too.
"oh no, u are going to sing!" lol XD
