  • This is my first DIY video, so easy on me :) I wanted to fix a bumper problem on my BMW E39 but couldn't find a video for this model. Anyway I fixed it myself and learned a few things that I thought might be helpful to others too.
    I am a hobbyist, so any suggestions and pointers would be helpful in case you see something that can be improved.

    A rare honest video on car maintenance with some dude struggling, just like most of us. Thank you for not editing it into a hypocritical textbook reference.

    Worked great for me, thanks. I tried popping it back into place from the wheel well as some people suggested, and it was too hard. Following your video on removing the bumper cover, I just needed to find a Torx T50 bit and unbolt one side. It only took about 15 minutes to pull the bumper cover forward, push it back onto the rail from the front, and put everything back in place.

    Well done for your first DIY video. Gave me good pointers all around -- what TO do, and what NOT to do! That's great!! Thanks very much! Nice car too! :)

    Thanks for the video very helpful. I was able to just loosen the one side and slide it back on so you don't have to line up both of them.

    great video, it helped my process go by real quick!! it is too bad that these e39s are notorious for having that bumper gap

    Thanks! Next time I will definitely prep it better. Kind of did it on the spot without much thought into it. Was more focused on the problem rather than the video itself ;)

    I have the same. I was a bit lazier, be cause it rains so much in Britain and my garage is too narrow to work in, I decided to loosen the little bolts in front of the wheels, then veeerry carefully jacked the bumper up till the "gap" between the bumper and headlight light was closed. then I tightened the bolts again....and it works!

    What year of e39? I have 2002 503I my bumper has a small gap and is pretty worn from scraping on parking stops and such. How much time did it take overall? No other help? Probably will replace the wheel well plastic along with the bumper shouldn't take much more effort I would think?

    Ok..i just have the same problem on the same side..i will try just to loose the bolt on this one side and try to fiddle the bumper in correctly...but thanks for this vid..took my fear because it seems not that hard to fix it.

  • @harrynazarian3184

    This is a common issue. Video has good info, but this is definitely the long way to do it. Like another person mentioned, just remove the wheel or turn in the wheel on the side it's on, and remove the wheel liner. Going from there to remount the bumper is straight forward.
    And it is pronounced Rach-ette. And there is plenty of info on forums about this bumper fix. Read em first prior to making a vid. I learned this lesson the hard way.

    ANYONE KNOW HOW this is done? The 2 big bolts in front..EZ..then just remove the inner fender bolts?Im changing the aux fan.So is there any other things holding this on?
    I have seen DIY posts saying headlights have to be removed???This looks pretty straightforward. i tried but seemed like something was snagging it.THOSE INNER FENDER BOLTS!! I 4got to remove. Will try tomorrow. And will post clearer instructions.THIS HELPS ALOT tnx 4 the vid.

    Hey I have a 2003 BMW 530i with the same style bumper, same exterior color the only difference is my rims! anywho, What if you don’t have those big bolts that you said holds the bumper to the body? I’ve looked everywhere for those bolts on my bumper but can’t find them. I have a bumper that is hanging on by a thread due to my brother pulling forward into the parking space too far going past the little concrete barrier then reversing and the bumper getting ripped completely off the vehicle. It even broke the grey plastic square piece of the side of the which locks the bumper in place (don’t know what I’m gonna do to fix that situation) The bumper looks securely attached to the body except for that little section that you show on the video, I’m afraid that it is gonna come off while I’m driving and cause serious damage to the vehicle or someone else’s vehicle is that happens I’d be beside myself you know. Do some vehicles have bumpers without those long bolts securing it to the body?

    • @GeoRover
      @GeoRover  2 роки тому

      I am pretty sure that these bolts serve a purpose of holding the bumper securely. Maybe you can't see it due to some misalignment from the damage. I would at least have it looked at by some body shop.
