Regretfully, in my younger years I would call an old timey operator (snail man) he seemed to me soooo slooow but after he got done for the day he would load the same amount of trucks that I would. I learned something being faster just wears you down more. As I became a more experienced operator I would make every move count, and I became more relaxed and became one with the machine. In my 35 yr of being an operator I feel I mastered the 4 in 1 bucket. What a great tool to operate and look forward to you (Chris) mastering it as well.
We had a similar issue with a regular Virnig tooth bucket in that we were using extra thick treads on a tire machine. This caused quite the change in bucket angle usage in "the home" position throughout the wear of the tires. We ordered the bucket with the mounting plate not welded on and we custom attached the plate in the correct position for our purpose and was very happy. We have used Virnig for a long time and never had any problems with any of their attachments. They are very sturdy and durable!
Having ran a skid loader for a long time, having the loader arms tight against the machine stops while the cutting edge can be leveled is HUGE. It makes the difference between floating, grading, and/or digging. I 100% agree with your 7/10 ratings on all 3 buckets.
I just got an AMI four in one bucket about a month ago the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever purchased just a heads up, I just ordered a Norm engineering 4n1 bucket
It's the worst when someone forgets to lock in the bucket, even worse when it's a 4/1. We've had one dropped into a dump truck and hang off the hoses ruining bucket side and skid steer side couplings.
I procured a Virnig 10' snow pusher and Cat wheel loader for the company I work for. That pusher is a beast, works very well and made in Minnesota. Cat recommended it and now I know why. Very well made and designed. Really surprised you have the issue with the bucket level that you do.
You used an Australian bucket some months ago do you remember? as I recall you liked it how would that bucket compare with these ones ? made by Norm Engineering in Carrum downs Victoria
I've been researching a lot of equipment recently, and get tired of looking at reviews where the person doing it never really uses it, and misses "minor details" which turn out to be important (or at least expensive) in the long run or someone who's simply doing a "sales pitch" for some company. Thanks for posting this review.
Thanks Chris, I really enjoyed this review. I’m a landscaper and I often try different machinery, very rarely is any one machine perfect, I’m always wishing I could amalgamate several in one.
Here in Sweden and other Nordic countries our grading buckets/scoops for loaders are commonly longer and lower, but it holds same volume..Loading up a truck you also reach longer in. Much nicer to work with even for snow!
Nice video man! I’m with you that Construstion attachments bucket needs the shanks lowered they think they could have easily seen that. I guess that’s what I stick with the tooth bucket cause it’s a paladin bucket and the geometry is perfect for the Takeuchi
I checked my swivel office chair underneath, couldn't find any hydraulic couplers so I decided to pass on this bucket test.....sorry Chris , you're on yer own on this one, just drag me along and I'm good to go.
Awesome video review. My friend has a case loader and his dad has an older case. I was hauling manure out to the fields and when I was operating the bucket and I noticed that same kind of deal where the front edge was up off the ground a few inches too. The newer skid loader with the same bucket front edge was level with the ground and the operating speed of the bucket is quicker too. About 3 days @ 12 hours per day to empty out the manure pit. Every little bit of speed on the operating of the tilt of the bucket sure saves a lot of time at the end of a project!
I have a removable tooth bar on mine, and it works great. I've really had it in some hard twists and have never had issues. Its a little more work swapping on and off, but much cheaper than 2 buckets. 👍
I had the same exact problem with my CA 4-1 bucket. It felt like I was always fighting with the bucket to hold grade. I’m a landscaper and mainly only do final grading. I sold that bucket after 100 hours or so. I actually met with Ted and his brother about the hitch plate height being off 3 years and I’m glad they finally fixed that. I ended up with a CID 4-1 and I love it but the cutting edges are all weld on. No bucket is perfect I’ve learned.
I really appreciate you taking the time to do this and it has really helped me to know what to purchase and what did not purchase at least with regard to the ones you tried and I appreciate several other things that you showed me. Thank you very much sir
Only way to do a good review is to work them in a work situation and you were the man bro. Honest and to the point too. Enjoyed the video as well. Safe travels
I've got Verizon Stump Bucket with hydraulic grapple on New Holland l230. Use it to take out Cedar trees. It gets it every time. Can haul off trees with hydraulic grapple. Love It.
I Had a CA 4 BUCKET on my first machine bought in 2000 loved it. Just got a new machine this year and got the CA 4 BUCKET on it. Not pleased with the new one, very unhappy with it. Just like you said teeth ride higher than the cutting edge. Not only that the back cutting edge hangs lower than the bucket by one inch which makes grading very difficult ,you have to keep the bucket tilted down in order for the back cutting edge not to be digging in. There was nothing wrong with the old ones that I could see. Wish they had not fixed something that was not broke.
Really like your reviews. They tend to be more realistic than listening to the dealer. Nice that they let an independent person give the review. They're holding their breath!
I like to back drag with the heel of the bucket, but a lot of buckets don't have heels anymore or they have wear plates that leave two deep ruts when you're trying to back drag, at least on some buckets, or buckets on larger loaders.
Crazy idea and I know it will probably cost alot to do but have you thought about designing your own bucket like you did with the thumb on the Volvo? Make it to your specs and what you will be doing with it might in the long run work better to your advantage that way. Just an idea that might help some.
Hey Chris, just watch those hoses floping around, they will get caught in the pinch point of the arms, when that happens its a hydraulic shower time. That's no fun, no fun at all!! Have a great evening, and weekend!!!!!
Well Chris I definitely think the first bucket that you tried was the best by far other than the teeth not touching the ground with your boom all the way down and that would not be a hard fix to straighten it out all they would have to do is readjust their shanks so they’re your teeth would touch the ground when your boom is all the way down and the bucket laying flat on the ground so if I had to choose between the two of those new ones that you were trying out I would definitely take the first one because it’s a lot stronger built looking bucket but anyway to each his own and another great video you and John and your family stay safe brother and keep the videos coming

Whatever happened to that Australian bucket you tried out a few years ago? That seemed like it cover most of the bases. I’m sure getting parts might be a pain but seemed ya really liked that one. Also I agree ami would something to try.
The last bucket I got from construction attachments had the teeth on like that. I flipped them over and they fit a little better, I thought they accidentally put them on upside down. I don't like the 1" thick cutting edge either, it doesn't cut as well as a 3/4" and the teeth are flush
Have you ever seen the Hydra bucket from CMP Attachments? I have a Cat 257B, looking to get 1 bucket that can do it all. Cutting & grading dirt and maintaining a 1/2 mile gravel drive.
Sounds like the takeuchi sits lower, which is causing these problems. Just need the mount dropped down lower to fit. And yes you can weld onto the bucket, just need filler metal to match the base material the best. I’m surprised you haven’t got a custom bucket built to your specs.

Construction Attachments and Land Pride ( Kubota ) are offering a long bottom 4 in 1 bucket now in 84" . I have a 299 scheduled to arrive soon and want a long bottom 4 in 1 bucket . Have you seen a long bottom yet
Well I suppose that would be alright but does your Porsche have the lift capacity for these 4in1 buckets? Not to mention the hydraulic attachments? You might want to convert from tires to tracks. Not sure you have enough weight to get good enough traction to overcome the digging resistance of the teeth. Best of luck anyway :D
What about the floating action for when the bucket is flat, there would be none for down wards float,,,, I completely understand about strength being more stable against the blocks too though
Someone needs to make you a Custom Boot Scraper for the porch step, or a mobile one that attaches to your truck! i.e. It drops on top of a rear truck tire and allows you to scrap off your muddy boots! It can double as a Side Step to get into the truck bed. Safety Third!

Great video. Damn it’s nice watching a video where the individual really knows what he’s talking about. Keep up the great work. I strictly run a road grader now, but I want to get me a Takeuchi tracked skid for my personal use. How do you rate this machine, compared to to a cat 289/299?
On the Paladin, can you weld those Tooth-Shanks instead of using the bolts like you said? Weld from the inside of the bucket. Is that possible? That way there is nothing sticking out from the outside. It is a shame they're just sitting there not being used. Maybe AMI can make you a custom bucket?
I noticed that the second bucket had a welded cutting edge on the front and the other two buckets had bolt-on front cutting edges. I'd expect that to wear a lot, so that might be a consideration. On the other hand it had a bolt-on rear cutting edge, and I don't think the others did.
Yep, no fun yanking the fittings off the machine ($$$). I've done that job twice in one day on our T190. Mind you I just fix the machines, I don't run them, well not often anyways. The boys seemed to think their way of routing the hoses on the breaker was better than what the manufacturer says. Theirs kept them from flapping in the breeze but didn't let it articulate without pulling on the fittings eventually.
My cat 4n1 bucket does the same shit on my 259d3, the only thing I can think of why they’d do that is so you can have a vertical dozer blade with arms all the way down 🤷🏾♂️.. a real pain in the ass to get used to for sure
What would u grade the Norm eng 4in1. I just bought a cat 299d3 and am going to get a 4in1 soon so would like to know if its worth trying to get the Norms bucket.

Yes, I think it was Norm Engineering, Pro Series. He seemed quite impressed about it at the time.
it was a nice bucket. little expensive to get here. Seemed a little too big for everyday grading though
First look at the thumb nail and I thought all three buckets were attached to some contraption, so that you could do scrapping in one pass for a drive
You got to love it when Christmas comes early
If you want to take grading to the next level with the 4 in 1, need to get a spreader bar. Easy to fabricate and cheap
I think its preference I like my buckets like that second one you review, I don’t like mine resting against the bump stops
Does your smooth bucket sit flat on the ground with the bump stops interlocked? Has your salesman described what Takeuchi Negative Dig is?
Somethings are simply junk. Designers never use their designs. Many never even get dirty.
Seems to me R&D needs to go back to the drawing board
They'd be better off leaving the drawing board and getting some real life experiences with their prototypes! ;-)
