I had few years ago issue with my Mean Streak 1600 water pump. Outer "dry" bearing seized and it must change. Factory order was split the engine and press it out of case. There is chance to do it without splitting the engine. Opening by water pump cover, removing propeller, breaking of mechanical seal, you can see the outer bearing side. With breaking bearing seal and ball case you get all bearings same line and there is 3 mm area inside of bearing and with special ball hook tool and slide hammer it comes out. Bad engineering was also weeping hole, which is almost midway of dry area, its too high for prevent bearing failure. Water level rises too high and get in the bearing.
I liked the MeanStreak, I took the one I was riding up to 130mph back when I was working in the field. Think it was orange, slide hammers are fun huh. 👍
I don't know if you ever watch machining video's but Stefan Gatteswinter in Austria made some impellers for the Honda Owners club there last year so there are none in Europe either.
For the great difficulty I see in getting everything right with just a rebuild kit, I would think that replacing the entire pump assembly would be a wiser investment or are we talking about something that is as unobtainable as a moon rock?
Reagan was President likely the last time the water pump assy was available new from the Mothership. If that's what you mean. Replacing with a used unit, may result in same situation needing to be rebuilt.
Hello! I was wondering if there are websites or shops that can make OEM decals for a vfr750 interceptor, the gas tank decals are pretty bagned up! Thank you! although months late
Hey I love your videos, especially the Honda V4 ones as I own a 82 V45 but am currently looking to buy and fix a 84 VF1000F Interceptor. It does not run, no battery so I can’t start or turn over and don’t know what the issues are. Was repainted, doesn’t have original sweet decals. Owner says it just sat and should not have any major problems. I know these Honda v4 models have camshaft problems, should this be a major concern at 24k miles? Just curious as to what I should buy it for to be able to get it going for without throwing in a ton of money. Also, once I would buy, what are the best maintenance things to do to it- should I do carb sync and valves right away or things like that or are those more later on once I get the bike running and am troubleshooting for poor running?
I'd really have to see the bike, it'd be impossible to give you even general direction. For the cam (alleged) issues, read Mike Nixon's very thorough material on his time at American Honda in the 80's and his opinions based upon various pieces of evidence from the time. www.motorcycleproject.com/text/v4_page.html. I am selling my VFR750 if you're interested. It really needs nothing, ready to go. Thanks for the kind words and watching these videos.
@@MotoRestoFL that was in interesting read and pretty much mirrors my experiences. I've seen cam spalling on virtually every motorcycle coming out of Japan at some time (until the 90's when I changed jobs then moved to Florida) Suzuki 4 valve motors in late 80's (GSX-R, GSX-F 600-1100) about half coming in for service had at least one lobe showing slight damage but very few with more than 2 lobes (we tried warranty jobs on a few but Suzuki said they were 'fine')
Great job fixing the problem. It sure helps having the correct tools for the job.

Good video Motoresto. I'm about to embark on the same procedure soon. I dont have any fancy machinist tools or press so it will be interesting.
I don’t see how it can be done without a press of some sort, but I’d sure like to know how if you can pull it off. Keep us informed!

They’re out there but I don’t have any links anymore. Just Google them and you’ll find hits.
A bit belated, but did you cure the Vfr750 flat spot by opening up the mixture screw ?
Not really I went bigger on both main and slow jets. Can’t recall the sizes. The VFR is for sale if you’re interested.
