"I read your book you magnificent bastard!" has been pretty much my favourite line uttered on television for, what, 25 years now?😅 ❤Phil Hartman lives forever in our hearts🥲
Hall of Fame actor/character. NewsRadio lasts 10 years if he lives and stays with the show. Nothing against Jon Lovitz, who was good as Max, but NOBODY could do what Phil/Bill did for NewsRadio. Thank you for posting this, Jon.
this show was great because the actors had a diverse sense of humor....matthew bill beth joe dave....each a unique humor.. odd by themselves, but put it together and its funny as hell! RIP Phil.
I just watched a little documentary on this show and they said part of the reason it works so well is because they were always being threatened by the Network's who canceled. So every episode was written as if could be the last one... kind of as a slap in the face to the network execs. The actors treated it, the same. 💜💙💜💙💜
Agreed. That's what also made other great ensemble sitcoms like Cheers, Spin City, Night Court, Seinfeld, Martin, Married with Children, Taxi and Frasier work so well.
"I was cut from the high school football team, and my mother said, "Central's lost a fullback, but the McNeals have gained a daughter". In front of the other players, too!... Good times..."
You should add, the episode about Bill / Dave quitting smoking and coffee. There's a scene where Matthew comes in, and both Bill / Dave get off on Matthew. I almost died, when I watched that scene.
Phil Hartman truly was one of a kind 👍- so sad to hear about what happened to him 25 years ago, thanks Phil for the laughs and may he RIP My favourite NewsRadio episode was the one with the cane
Great video. You could probably do 90 or so minutes of all of the Bill McNeil gold. I love it when he buys Dave the carton of cigarettes as a gift "And they're the 100s, so that much more smoking pleasure!"
Bill McNeil was the real deal. It's a travesty that Phil was deprived of whatever other greatness he could have achieved, in a life longer than the one he had.
Great clips. Although, seeing the clip with the sandwiches, I kinda wished you had included the other references to Bill's mom and his terrible childhood(as well as the other reference to her sandwiches). Again, great and funny stuff. We all miss Phil Hartman.
Phil Hartman's Bill McNeal was very much a successor to Ted Knight's Ted Baxter of Mary Tyler Moore Show fame. Both characters were hilariously pompous, arrogant blowhards who somehow became the funniest and most lovable characters of their shows. Both men are gone and here we are still adoring both of their iconic roles.
I didn't realize how the look of the character changed as the show went on. Were they trying to make him look older? He looks so young in the first few episodes, then his hair is longer and he's wearing the glasses more.
I was in a halfway house for recovering alcoholics and one guy was just a pain in the ass, he was using a wooden cane so we sawed off about half an inch every day for about a week before he finally noticed, but we loao.
He stole the show every time. In fact i'd go so far as to say that the show got a little slow when he wasnt on camera. And you can see it in the eyes of the cast opposite him when he says stuff they're always holding back laughs

Phil Hartman was more than just a hilarious actor, he was also a great guy. Basically the opposite of Bill Mcneil.
This is great, but also sad. Phil Hartman had so much more to give. He was a comedy genius. RIP.
I miss this time period. I was lucky to have experienced it as a 20 something.
That’s nothing. It was great experiencing this as a 68 year old!
Me as a middle/high schooler loved it
@@hawk12983 i remember we werre the first middle school to get lockers back in the day. They still have lockers in school?

"This idea is both fair and democratic... And I want no part of it."
Excellent tribute. I'll always miss his humor.
RIP Phil.
What a talent!
Thank you for posting this. Phil Hartman's humor was so great. I wish I could of hung out with him for a day or so.

@@funniebunnie4u crazy, the network execs hated the show and changed timeslots like 10 times. here's the doc ua-cam.com/video/CoZMJgDGfy4/v-deo.html

funny show!!!🎉🎉🎉

I almost died, when I watched that scene.
Man he made this show. It should have it's own channel just because of him.
You might remember Phil Hartman as the actor troy McClure and Lionel hutz attorney at law
Phil Hartman truly was one of a kind 👍- so sad to hear about what happened to him 25 years ago, thanks Phil for the laughs and may he RIP
My favourite NewsRadio episode was the one with the cane
Phil was cast to be the voice of Zapp Brannigan on Futurama.
Would have been hilarious for sure.
“We both know you took my cane. When you deny it you insult not only me but yourself as well and of course…my cane.”
the cane is probably my favorite newsradio episode
I’ve read your book you magnificent bastard. RIP
The Cane was the one i always remembered 😂
Phil Hartman made News Radio popular.
Great Video. RIP Phil Hartman.
Good times!
Bill was the best character!!
perfect cane weather!
The dance and the kiss is from the end of game show “the dating game”

Loved the episode how McNeil would brag about being labeled "adequate".
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!! Particularly at 1:35. I love and miss him, so much.
Bill McNeil was the real deal. It's a travesty that Phil was deprived of whatever other greatness he could have achieved, in a life longer than the one he had.
Bill & his piano is soo funny xDDD
JUST A GENIUS..
Keep them coming Jon.
😄
Brilliant!! Thanks for taking teh time. Kudos, my friend, and kudos again!!
The eyes are the windows to the skull...
That's deep.
Yeah he did, his most notable character was Troy McClure
So Good.
very nice! Thank you!
Phil was amazing... But his character was actually spelled "Bill McNeal"
"I'm glad you asked Cathrine, because... No"
Good times.
Nice video but how could you not have a clip of him telling a really bad story followed by him saying "oh the goodtimes" lol
Miss that guy

GENIUS! GENIUS!
5:09 really needed his cane at this time.
@Bishop5445
You might remember him from such anti-horseplay films as, "Locker Room Towel Fight: The Blinding of Larry Driscoll".
Thanks Phil
Good times
Good time 🤔

the reason i youtubed searched this video is beacause my grampa is named bill maccneil....he just died 1hr ago of oldness.. he was a ww2 pilot...D:

Great writing, actors playing the Straight Man to set up the joke.
❤️❤️❤️
fuck..... i just realised this is the voice of troy mcclure
I read your book you magnificent bastard
legend
They left out his best one, the rocket fuel one.
I didn't realize how the look of the character changed as the show went on. Were they trying to make him look older? He looks so young in the first few episodes, then his hair is longer and he's wearing the glasses more.
Wow 14 years gone....I need a great laugh.
What's the font used for the episode details?
I was in a halfway house for recovering alcoholics and one guy was just a pain in the ass, he was using a wooden cane so we sawed off about half an inch every day for about a week before he finally noticed, but we loao.
They also wanted him to do Zap Brannigan from Futurama but he died before they could do it.
IM TALKING TO YOU PEOPLE !!
@Milos89kv i think you mean lent, not borrowed
This voice is familiar. He must of borrowed his voice to some of Simpson's character.
Hartman provided voices to Troy McClure and the sleazy lawyer Lionel Hutz.
👏
good times
My favourites are "Good evening ladies and gentleman" and "rocket fuel" (3.19 , not in this video)..
😔😔😔😔
lionel hutz, lyle lanley
I read your book you magnificent bastard!
~George Patton (WWII Africa Campaign against Erwin Rommel)
Hilarious!
It was a gross vending machine sandwich.
Patton quote was wonderful lol
Thanks davis, appreciate the feedback, I plan to make a few more, so keep an eye out.

What a tragic waste of talent. 25 years almost, and still incredibly depressing.
