I've always enjoyed this here group immensely. I never realized they had so many hits. Of course none of these ever caught fire state side. Never the less, one of England's more provocative original bands !
I hadn't heard of this song or seen the video before. Mike D"abo was a talented guy. I preferred his era of Manfred Mann to Paul Jones, allthough they were both great.
Fabulous Clip John! Its great to see these rare performances and promos from the 1960s - especially as they are all new to me - thanks for giving us a further glimpse into this wonderful era!
John, I love your promos. Wondrously evocative of an old London, wherein you could weave and wend about and fall of the edge of the world, into cobbled broken blitz-razed and then neglected crannies. Very early memories of the sooty unwashed buildings - a black Tower Bridge etc etc I'd love to know the locations, for his fillum. Looks like somewhere along the railway north of Shepherd's Bush I spent ages trying to figure out the 'Ragamuffin Man' locations. In he end, close as i always was to pinpointing it, a lovely woman informed me. I recognise Osterley House as the location for 'Quinn.' All he very best!
so long dad didn`t enter the top twenty and was manfred mann`s first failure since 1964....surprisingly, as it was a fine randy newman song....probably a bit complicated before the catchy chorus...however, they made up for it with mighty quinn which was a number one hit.
Wow ! I can now finally put a name to all these great sixties promos that I long suspected were made by the same person! Thank you John for not only making these but also preserving and making them available for all of us that love this great period of music to enjoy!!!! I'd seen the "Just Like A Woman" and "Mighty Quinn" (In B/W) used in Beat Club but these others are new to me please upload more!!!!
robstar savage Glad you like, sorry no more. The Manfred films were made for Gerry Bronn of Bronze Music MM management, some of the first promos made. TOTP had a miming ban in 1966 so Gerry got round it by filming the bands and giving Johnny the finished film to show. He could also send the film to overseas TV without expensive visits. I made several more but they are long lost. 35 years ago we never thought that anybody today would be interested in such ephemera. Best John
@@racketman2u Yeah I loved this song when it came out in NZ back in the day, I was about 8 & was right into pop music . Great clip, never seen it before, a good one to restore and add improved soundtrack. Cheers for posting the clip John.
OK, who can tell me about the extra verse, about Jane's eyes? Never heard that in any other version of the song - was that a part that Randy cut out of his original recording, or did someone from MM write it and put it in themselves?
Hi John thanks for getting back to me, sad to hear that you don't have anymore. Out of interest did you make "Ragamuffin Man" and also "Fox On The Run" promos that are here on UA-cam? I wonder if some of your work is not completely lost as the programmes that they were shown on might have survived? Did you make promos for any other artists- The Troggs for example? Thanks again Rob
robstar savage I didn't make very many promos, mostly they were for Gerry Bronn at Bronze. Dusty Spingfield, Manfred, Pitney etc. In 1969 I made a feature length film Supershow, which I think you can still buy retail. It featured Led Zep, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Stepen Stills, Buddy Guy,Buddy Miles, The Modern Jazz Quartet, John Hiseman/Collusium.Etc.Some bits and pieces are on Utube. Then in the mid 1980s I made The Who Face Dances. A half hour film shot on 35mm featuring, You Better You Bet (best performance video-Time magazine) Don't Let Go The Coat, and a couple of others. Note the promos were all shot on film (not video) and all the visual effects were made in the camera while shooting. Not as now in post.
Manfred Mann's Earth Band had some good songs, too. I grew up with this music.

This didn't even become a hit in the UK either
Mike D'Abo's great. Had a lovely drunk blues jam with him in 1977 at the flat of Landsdowne studio's owner in London. Talented guy!!
Alan Merrill which was nice
He has a certain charisma and charm that's all of its own
FAb 7". Randy Newman song. Great filmage.
Какой же он Красавчик!! Бомбическое обаяние и запах секса!!!
WOW! This has 1967 written all over it! Great stuff. What a totally different time that was to now.

I agree !

Oh gosh I love the close-ups of Mike. He was so handsome, those big sad blue eyes of his. This is a great video, thank you for sharing!

Done by Tony Scott - younger brother of Ridley
It,s a cover of Randy newman
Sounds like something Sid Barrett would write.
Are the piano player and the guitarest twins?
Sorry, You just CAN'T BEAT the,
LIZA MINELLI Version of THIS SONG 😏.

Yea the Liza Minelli version has a great arrangement
That's a joke right?

If you're referring to This 'ATROCIOUS' Sounding Noise from
"M M", Yes 'IT' IS a Joke ! 😝
can't believe this was such a flop, it's so catchy. much prefer it over nilsson's version and newman's own
Yes it's a great song and should have done really well in the charts.
Just listened to this again.
OMG, it's Horrible 🤮 !
Especially if you've heard it sung Properly !
