Jonas Kaufmann has a particularly dark voice for a tenor, which is suitable for Mahler, although I prefer the recording by Jose van Dam for an even warmer, richer voice. I have uploaded it to UA-cam. Music critics have stated that this one song is perhaps the finest example of orchestral accompaniment, which such a sublime composition as this deserves.

Norbert Herterich Yep, die Klavierbegleitung klingt besser. Statt froschig würde ich "knödelig" sagen. Es lässt seinen Gesang künstlich und steif wirken. Ich verstehe die ganzen überschwenglichen Kommentare hier nicht. Nur am Schluss blüht die Schönheit von Kaufmanns Gesang mal auf. Da schwindet auch sein Gequetsche etwas und macht einer feinen nuancierten Gefühlswärme Platz.

This 6 piece Mahler work has 3 tenor pieces and 3 for baritone / mezzo, and interestingly he is more comfortable in the baritone pieces.
