    Such a pretty plant that blooms when very little is even awake.

      So true. I just adore how pretty the tiny flowers are during the Winter months, especially as it keeps things from looking bleak when there's no snow. I like some color during the dormant season. 🌲💖

      @@GardenSanity Alas, I messed around trying to find a sickle to cut with instead of my hedge trimmer and now I have flower stems all over the place, so I’ll wait until they bloom to get started. I did find a Fiskars billhook, I think it’s called.
      Blessings 💜💚

    Hi Laura. This was very helpful to know. I realized Heath’s love to stay moist so I keep mine watered regularly & they look amazing. I have mine planted in front of my dapple willow. They look great together. TY

    I’m glad u were able to save at least one of the two winter heaths that u thought had died, Laura! I wanted to let u know that I ordered one limelight hydrangea from Great Garden Plants, and it’s doing wonderful so far! It gets sun until about 1pm, and then it’s in the shade of the house thereafter from our harsh Tx afternoon sun. I hope I will see some blooms this year but if not, I can be patient until next year. My two rose of Sharon’s that u helped me with last year r actually blooming or about to bloom. The Paraplu Rouge is blooming, and the Blue Chiffon is all budded up and about to bloom. I didn’t get to see them bloom last yr so I’m thoroughly enjoying the show this year! Tysm again!! ❤

      Glad you got a Limelight, Lori! 💚 Hope you liked the packaging from Great Garden Plants - I think they really ship plants well. I think the Limelight will do great where you’re planting it. And hooray for your Rose of Sharons! Oh my goodness, both varieties are so pretty, and what a treat to finally see them bloom! I love the Blue Chiffon color…wish I would have purchased one…maybe someday… 💙

      @@GardenSanity I ordered quite a few plants (3 clematis, 2 salvia, 2 astilbe, and 2 heucheras) in addition to the Limelight, and all arrived packaged really nicely from Great Garden Plants. All the plants r doing well in their new homes so far. The two salvias had a ton of big mature leaves, but were really root bound in their cans. While I was acclimating them to our Tx climate, they kept wilting even tho I was watering them every day so I pulled them out of their cans to see if they were root bound. I trimmed back their foliage so the plant wasn’t struggling as much, planted them in the ground after I’d given them a few days to acclimate, and they’re already bouncing back wonderfully! That was my only small issue, but otherwise, I’ve been very impressed with all the plants. Ty for recommending that company! I’ve def got my eye on some more of their plants for the future esp bc they have a really good warranty!

      @@loricawley54 Wow Lori -- sounds like a wonderful selection of plants from Great Garden Plants! So glad they're doing well too. I have one plant that kept wilting in its pot, and I sunk it into a small bucket with some water in the bottom, and this way hopefully those roots will suck up more water than what I can give it with watering over and over. 🙂

    It seems like there’s always a plant in the medical ward. Right now, my roses are getting swarmed by aphids. Even worse, I have a skunk living under my front steps and digging everywhere. Have you bought any annuals?

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  Рік тому

      Oh no - it’s way too early for aphids. I’m not ready yet for bugs. Get out the Neem Oil spray. I hate aphids and I hate the ants that show up because they love aphids. Hope the skunk doesn’t get spooked and spray. 🤢 Annuals: I bought Lantana again, as it really holds up in heat and humidity, and blooms well into the Fall. But I still have lots of perennials to plant, if I could just make up my mind where they go. 🙃🙂

    I used to have one from my momma but I am overrun with voles and have no idea how to protect a plant from them. Fences works great for rabbits and neem oil for aphids, but voles? 😢

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  Рік тому +1

      Hi Polly, there are several good articles on the internet about how to deter voles from visiting your gardens. If you use fencing around plants, the fencing will need to be sunk below ground to prevent the voles from digging and getting to the plant roots. Sharp gravel also deters them, as they don't like walking on it. I use chicken grit for a similar reason, especially when planting my bulbs in the Fall, to deter squirrels and chipmunks from digging the bulbs up. They seem to not like walking on the sharp tiny gravel either. There are also several repellents you could try. And that's just the thing: it will be trial-and-error for awhile until you find something that works. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. 😥

      @@GardenSanity they only seem to bother them in the winter months when the snow is deep. They make tunnels everywhere!
