Have you had a similar experience?
Yes of course
But I should prove the wrong too
Sure sure, but I love languages in general. Some people learn how to skateboard, I learn Korean. Are they both practical in real life? No. Doesn't mean they don't fulfil a purpose.
Yes, I have!
Her flow sounds so Korean, love it!
All that hard work! Good job girl! 🙌 Korean is really beautiful sounding to me which is why I am learning it, but to learn any language is a great accomplishment, because it takes a lot of work.
I cant wait to get to this point
She even said "I proved her wrong" in a Korean accent.
Yes, I have had several people ask me why I would bother. I tell them that I started off loving Korean dramas and then got curious about Korean history and then wanted to learn more about the culture. After I had been learning the language for a few months I realized how fascinating, logical and fluid the language was and I got hooked. So now I want to speak and read Korean well enough to read Korean history in Korean and eventually be able to visit. There are also several novels I want to read with no English translations and ChatGPT misses quite a bit of nuance in translations so I am going to learn and then read myself!
Ooh! If you don't mind, what books are those that you want to read? (I can't find any good books in Korean... other than those specifically made for learners of the language...)
I personally learned Korean for 3 years, from 2018 to 2020 but then stopped, lost motivation and haven't picked up the studying at all... how should I get back to learning the language? I have 0 motivation :/
@@dayana4654 - the two novels on the top of my list are 성균관 유생들의 나날 1&2 and then I want to read the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty, and Uncanny Convenience Store. And of course several 만와
I mean lots of Koreans themselves wonder why would foreigners bother learning Korean 😅
(not to mean there not appreciative but they may feel it's pointless for non Koreans or people of non Korean descent to do that).
My family didn’t want me to learn Korean because it’s not « useful », so we came to an agreement : they finance my Korean learning journey only if I learn another « useful » language. So I’m learning Spanish to be able to learn Korean 😅☺️
Spanish is useful? Except for English, I don't think there are more useful things
@@cherrylove1293 Spanish is spoken by more than 400 million people in the world and is the official language of 21 countries, so yeah I think it’s useful 😊
I believe most people have the mindset that you learn a language for a profitable reason. You learn it because you're going to that country for business and want to impress your business partners or be able to order for yourself at a restuarant. Or you learn the language because everyone around you speaks it. They think its a waste of time to learn a language simply because you like it, and look down on languages from smaller countries who have less global influence. Yet korean isn't a small language. If you include everyone that speaks it, either as a first or second language, you'd have about a 100 million people. Plus kdrama and kpop are so popular these days that you hear korean wherever you go nowadays, especially online. More and more business is being done with korea thanks to kbeauty, hyundai, samsung, and other business ventures. So even from a business standpoint, its beneficial to learn korean. Either way, learning any language breaks down the language barrior between you and millions of people and pieces of literature, media, ideas, culture, etc. Language is beautiful and always worth learning.
im krn and for sure we ppl rly admire and appreciate those who wanna learn our language!
Thanks!
@@monikm06 at your supporttt 진심으로 응원합니다ㅏ!
I mean it makes sense to ask that. Useful languages are english, french and spanish. Unless you're moving to a specific country. Korean is only good for korea and learning a new language is extremely difficult. Logical question, really
My father was the same. I wanted to prove that he is wrong. Thanks Korean I met a Korean girlfriend and she will spend Christmas with our family in my country (Czech Republic) this year... 😅 So even though it's hard, I would like to encourage everyone that the time you spend with Korean is worthy... Don't give up! Do what you love! ❤️
If i close my eyes, it is like a native person speaking
My dad says the same thing about Korean. If you’re going to learn a language why not learn Chinese? (Honestly the biggest reason for me is.. no alphabet)
Can someone teach me Korean.
Woow
Genuinely!!!
I cannot help but I think expressing the apparent uselessless of learning of their language is kind of rude.
In particular, the reputation of a country and its language depends a lot of its (positive) influence in the world. As more people speak the language, as more influence the land will have.
South Korea is objectively not a small country, at least not population-wise 😭
