I actually wouldn't call his haircut short, I still think it's a little longer than the norm, and the beard is the stand out feature rather than the hair imo. Having long hair draws attention away from his beard, so I think he's made the right choice here

He is, after all, a model. My husband is a black silver fox. When we got married he has a beard that I loved. He shaved it off and won’t grow it back. He’s still turning heads even though he’s pushing seventy. I think this man would look even better if he trimmed that beard.
My late husband cut his long hair to a short hair cut...first and last...did not do anything for him until his hair was almost shoulder length...if you had seen my late husband you would have understood. This man is beautiful, my late husband was even more so. He was a German who resembled Raymond Burr but had ice blue eyes and sterling silver hair, 6’5”...deep voice...he had men chasing him. He is at peace and one day I will be with him again .
The ZZ Top look is not attractive. Lol. To each their own but take care of a beard or mustache. Makes a big difference. Otherwise it's like ratty locks (some call them dreads). Some people look great with them. Some don't.
