Good video, I and several other motorcyclists traveled from Iowa to Arches about 5 yrs ago and had a great time in the hot summer. We are planning another trip this year
I was really toying with the idea of going back for a second year in a row but I'm planning on Montana and Wyoming this year instead. Which means that Utah will be in 2022 again 😁
What a fantastic set of videos, thanks so much. I never did hear what month this was, the cold weather is a little frightening, we are headed for Utah April 20th and hoping for small crowds and good weather 2--up on a Yamaha 1200 Super Tenere. I was planning on Schafer Trail road but now, 2-up I think not. Love your vid's!
Thanks! I'm very glad you enjoyed the series. This trip was the first week of September. It started out as unseasonably hot, then turned unseasonably cold. I plan my trips for early September because the weather almost always serves up great riding conditions. Not so much this time, but oh well, it was still an amazing experience. 😁 And S10 should do great on Shafer. You should give it serious consideration and if you and your pillion have a fair amount of 2-up experience, then you should definitely do it! It's much more of a rough, bumpy road than a technical road. There were two very short sections that were only slightly technical for a big bike; one of them is in the previous video where I made the comment about a section being "kinda technical" and "I don't have a bash plate". The other short technical section did not appear in the video. Both of these sections involved picking a line and working clutch and throttle, but other than those two sections, it was pretty much just a bumpy road with incredible awe inspiring scenery! Ride safe and have a great trip 👍
I rode throughout this area last September and planned on camping also but ended up in a motel each night because it was falling down below freezing every night. It was still a beautiful trip but it didn’t warm up to camping weather until I got down into Arizona by Phoenix.
Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you enjoy them. I'm still riding, but only 500 miles last year and 800 the year before. Some work and personal changes upended my leisure time. The last trip I took was 2021😢. I've played with some routes for a huge, 4k mile western trip this year but I don't know yet if I'll be able to make that happen.
Hi from Cape Town and thanks for the great videos. I'm very impressed by the audio quality because I hear both your voice and the exhaust with only minor wind noise. Would you please tell me what kit you use?. Do you have an especially quiet helmet?. I use a GoPro with a cheap lavalier mic and the sound is dreadful. Thanks and keep the videos coming
Hello Cape Town friend. It was a bit of work to get the audio right. Below are the specifics of what I'm using. Microphone: Sena 20S coin style microphone (part #20S-A0304). www.ridersdiscount.com/sena-technologies-20s-communication-system-wired-microphone-black-20s-a0304-1051076. I have been using this mic for almost 6 years for helmet audio. It is velcro'd to the chin bar very near my mouth. Two things about this mic: first, it is mono pickup only so you will have to duplicate the audio channel in a video editor when you are editing your videos (very easy to do). If you don't duplicate the mono channel, your recorded audio will only play back out of one speaker. Second, the mic has a 2.5mm male connector but cameras use a 3.5mm female jack. Because of this, I have to use a 2.5mm female to 3.5mm male adapter. Here is the most recent adapter I bought: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EVEGL44/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Camera: GoPro Hero 7 Black with GoPro 3.5mm camera adapter. The adapter allows me to plug in the mic as well as an external battery. My previous camera was a Sony FDR-X3000 and the Sena mic worked very well on it too, but the audio quality is better with the GoPro. Helmets: Shoei Neotec, Arai XD-4 Miscellaneous: most of my rides are long distance touring so I have a fairly large windshield. This helps cut down on wind noise quite a bit. When I'm recording video, I make sure my visor is down. Again, this makes a big difference in audio quality. Finally, I have an Akrapovic muffler which sounds okay on it's own, but I also removed the baffles/dB killers which opened the sound up a good bit making it more pronounced on recorded video. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, and ride safe 👍
I hope your doing well. My wife and I just watched your Utah videos again. We vacation in Ouray Colorado all the time. Now she wants to take our goldwing to Moab. What parks do you recommend riding through?
I'm going great, thank you! My favorite park is Zion with Canyonlands being a close second. Bryce Canyon was nice too. If you only want to go as far as Moab, then getting out to Zion is a bit of a stretch, but it would be so worth it in my opinion. Really wish I'd been able to spend more time at Zion.
@Tiger993 I'll definitely plan that route. What about Arches? I see a lot on it and always seems crowded. We will be in Colorado and Utah for 10 days. I know Colorado like the back of my hand. I did learn a new spot from your video. My wife definitely wants to hit that overlook you hit on the backside of the black canyon.
@@moto-rollin Oh yes, that overlook on the Gunnison River was a fantastic view. Here's the location if you need it: 38.453364001702916, -107.3430792175069. Fun road too - lots of bikes on that one. I'm thinking of doing CO and UT again this year (unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a trip at all in 2022). Since you'll be around Moab, Arches should be on your list. But I saw it after seeing all the other Utah parks first, and by that point, it looked a little mundane by comparison. Seeing Arches earlier in a trip would make it more enjoyable I think.
The Utah series is complete. I'm hoping to take a shorter trip or two this spring/summer and would like to make videos of those (we'll see). The next multi-state trip is planned for early September.
@@jinny44 the snow had blown out by then so no snowy drama. Because of freezing temps and a closed Trail Ridge Rd, I took slab straight across CO without stopping. I have a 5 minute rough cut video of this to end the trip but just realized I never finished and published it (probably because it's not a great video). Maybe I'll publish it, we'll see...
I remember that day, just after Labor Day, and certainly the earliest substantial snowfall of the season I'd experienced. I cursed it, as the previous year winter started in early October, ruining autumn riding season. Was hoping to view your riding experience thru the high country; you could be an honorary Coloradan, showing your riding experience here in winter weather. A dubious honor, I admit, but one we all like to brag about afterwards. :)
Love Arches NP! I should ride through there on the 13th. Can’t wait!
