  • Living in a snow belt the upcoming winter has me worried that snow might accumulate inside the building. I hope that this method that I came up with will prohibit this somewhat.

    Good Idea. I failed to mention on my video I put grommets in the side flaps and secured them to the pallets. I picked up a grommet kit at Ace Hardware I believe. After they were installed, I started a nail and bent it over to hold the flaps in place. Hope the shelter is working out for you still, G.

    Put a cable or rope at the back of the shelter , inside like an X from corner to corner , this will make it stronger and does not tend to blow side to side

    how did u keep condensation from. dripping onto your stuff on. the inside?? I've only had mine 2 weeks we've had one little bitty rainstorm and now all my stuff is wet on the inside from constant dripping of condensation!!! help!! my stuff is off ground on pallets....is the ground itself causing it?? moisture is bad on canvas and frame itself!! then drips and puddles onto my stuff!!

    • @middyband
      @middyband  6 років тому

      off the ground is a good idea. Venting might help.

    • @slrs3908
      @slrs3908 6 років тому

      Ventilate. You will never dry out the ground or the air in it. Like your windshield fogging up is caused by humidity and a temperature difference between inside and outside. A small fan might help too.

      Shelterlogic sells a really cool and inexpensive vent that opens and closes on its own with temperature fluctuation. It's less than $40. You should check it out.

      The moisture is coming from the ground. Cold air draws the moisture from the warmer ground just like a ice filled glass of water on a hot summer day. You have to place a vapour barrier on the ground then cover with gravel or any other covering. This will help.

    Put sand bags on the outside bottom cover roof with extra tarp. Put pipe wrap on all corners throw ropes over top will last forever

    If you get a lot of snow don't let set on the roof it gets really heavy and needs to be knocked off or pulled off, when it falls to the sides it will tighten the shealter up nice and tight. I had to add angle iron to the vunder side of the pipes to keep them from bending down at were they slipped together, use hose clamps with smooth side facing up, worked like a charm. For ankors I used 3 foot posts hammered into the ground again using good hose clamps to hold tight to the fence posts, no problems with it blowing away.. For a floor I used pallets with polley tarps under them first. Don't snow sit on the roof it will stretch the the roof and it will sag and you can't get them out once that happens, the barn style roof and the round roof shealters are better the the peaked roof style. My old round roof shealter lasted 20 years, much heavier material cover, I'm going to replace the cover with a large vinyl billboard, these are sold on ebay at a great price 14 by 24 foot and are 11 mil thickness they come in white or black. I wrote cover it and they want over $700 just for replacement cover, that doesn't include shipping or both front and rear doors. good luck with yours... .

      We had a really bad winter last year and there were times when the snow accumulated to at least a foot. The area from the house to the garage was mostly opened, so most of the winter I couldn't even get to the garage in a box.Wat saved it a lot, and I even mentioned it in a couple videos was that I installed it next to the pole barn, which prohibited the winds from weakening the structural parts. It got down to -25 F. degrees, so most of the snow on the roof turned to ice and hardened making the structure even stronger, and the ice on the roof mostly slid off on it's own. It's up almost a year and a half now, and still in great shape. I'd say to anyone who is contemplating getting one of these, to make sure it's installed on some kind of platform, and next to a solid structure, then hope for not too much snow. Thanks for the comment. This thing is made by Shelter Logic, but sold by Harbor Freight and for some reason in my area, the Harbor Freight's seem stronger than the Shelter Logic and cheaper.

    These are definitely great improvement ideas for the garage in a box. These portable garage shelters are not the best quality, but well worth the money and time. goo.gl/qnxgFp - I know that Shelterlogic who manufactures these portable garages are diligently making improvements on this series of garage shelters. The newer models are coming soon!

    There’s a sleeve at the bottom of the front panel in the back you can actually slide a pipe in there I happen to have three-quarter inch gray PVC pipe fit perfectly was able to jam it between the Tiedown clamps works out perfect

    It is pretty sturdy, and I've been hearing good things, still time will tell. There's farms with hundreds of acres behind it, and the winds really kick up in winter and spring. If it survives this, it will survive anything. I'll be doing updates.

      +middyband Just what I was looking for! We get brutal winter storms here in Saskatchewan. I will consider your valid points you shared earlier (build on a platform, against a structure, etc.).

    • @middyband
      @middyband  9 років тому +1

      We have bad winters too and it is not uncommon for temperatures to drop to minus 20 F. Snow accumulates, but by lifting the tarp with a broom from the inside will usually get rid of it. Last winter I wasn't meticulous about the snow accumulating, so it built up but the structure withheld several inches. If you do purchase one, installing near another structure sure helps. I know that some people don't, but it is important to use the fasteners, and have it attached to some kind of flooring. Thanks fpr watching and your comment.

    Hi, has anyone ever built wooden doors (pull open and close ) for these round canvas garages, instead of the zipper/roll up door.sick of replacing garage door end because zippers mess up on logic tech garage

    • @middyband
      @middyband  5 років тому

      I didn't have a problem with the doors until the very end. I wasn't in the building that often, but a set of doors for someone using this as a shop would be a great idea, and easily done. Did I see or hear of anyone doing this , no.

      @@middyband thanks, we have had the frame for maybe 20yrs now and had to replace the door end maybe four times, back cover twice and top twice. only reason for having one of these is Town turned down permit to build one in its location. have another idea for permit now just have to try again with the permit.

      I got several requests from people wanting to buy replacement fabric. I did see a video stating that the fabric is sold, but I didn’t remember where I saw the video on this. I used my frame to make a run for my chickens which work. Very well.
