Seems like quite the build, sequential trans I here? It must be extremely satisfying to blow by the worlds best new cars with sheet metal from a great bygone era. I would be very proud to own a machine like that.
If old man Ferrari was still alive, you could ask him how he feels about American V8's. I seem to remember a guy named Shelby sticking it to Ferrari back in the 60's.
@@TheNorcalshooter 🙄 so would a jet powered one, but this ain't fantasy land. Lol. If the gloves are off he could turbo the Camaro. Bottom line: an LS swapped Miata isn't a Mazda Miata anymore is it?
I'd like to build a '67 or '68 Mercury Cougar up to the point where it can take a on a 458 around a track. That'd be one hell of a car. Camaros are a dime a dozen, but Cougars are somethin' rare. Regardless, this '69 is badass. The engineering prowess to go into making a 50 year old car go that fast must be mind-blowing. Nice Ferrari, too.
@@aspieotaku3580 You have to consider the drivers and the modifications made to both cars. While the Challenge is close to a stock 458, the Camaro has been completely remodernized. So it's not fair to compare them. Also a 458 GT3 would blast that old Chevy.
@@marcobrancorsini2479 it still costs less to mod the old Chevy than the 458 most Ferrari owners dont mod em because the value would drop, they baby their toys and keep em in the garage the rest of the week so they can resell em and buy a newer Ferrari.Even a newer Ferrari would still lose the Cammy owner has money left over to mod it more. An old American classic car smoking a highly refined exotic car. Ferrari not cracked out to be just a collector car. The old Chevy would still beat a modded458 try again.
No way! I raced on this track in Need For Speed Shift!!! I hated that track because of that dip with the turn at the bottom, but these guys are taking it like it's nothing!
If it was the Intimidator behind the wheel of the Camaro; that Ferrari would have been "nudged" politely out of the way. That Camaro was turning faster lap times, but the Ferrari did just enough to be a pain in the butt and get helped by some strangely rude and slow import drivers.
are you running a jericho transmission? the up and down shifts are lightning quick, do you have to use the clutch in the down shift on that or are you just rev matching it? how do you like that trans?
Life's Good Racing, how did the track map, speedometer, and lap timer get recorded and displayed on video? What system was installed on camaro and where can i get 1?
nmosely1988 we use Traqmates, which are great for data acquisition and video sync. They can record any form a data that you can pick up with a sensor. UNFORTUNATELY, they stopped building new units. There are many used units available for sale out there, and Traqmate will continue to repair & refurbish. The software is extremely powerful, yet very easy to use and the installation is a piece of cake. We can help you if you acquire one as we have years of experience. Good luck
More props to the driver than anything, dude could have been in a prius and still put down a good time. The Ferrari had to drive defensively at 4:45 or he was going to get overtaken then Miata traffic rained on the good racing
That's pretty impressive but the Ferrari used the same spec 4.5L V8 as the production car. Hat's off though to being able to stick with a 21st century factory race with 69' track built race car.
Clearly no one want wants to touch... but it sounds like (could be wrong) driver is rolling off the gas like fuel save mode. Could he go deeper into the corners?
As a former road racer, The guy driving the Z28 made far to many mistakes! Don't get me wrong, he did a decent job but, for one, getting onto every corner rumble strip just slows you down! 2, there are many parts of the track where he lets off the gas! I'm not driving the car but I think he could have stayed on the gas in some of those points! Again, I'm not driving the car but it looks like he could have made up some time in those sections. There was one corner where he consistantly over drove his car. Getting off track into the grass. Can't make up for that!
Totally agree, this guy is not a good track driver, braking way too early, backing off on the throttle way too early as well, car looks too quick for him.
Yup, none of the drivers here were great. Not bad, just not great. I think they need to learn the track in low power cars. Then you can't make up for your mistakes with horsepower.
+Stephen Hunt What makes you think this car has a 4 speed? It was a sequential box so it is likely a 5 speed. The pace they were going didn't necessitate grabbing high gear.
No. Gearing = rear end gear. I don't know of anyone else who would have mistaken my comment for the car needing an extra gear. You can clearly hear that the car isn't fully using it's powerband so more gearing would be used to keep the revs up.
Im a Ford guy but love Camaros, i lime mustangs too but they are so common which is why i drive a non mustang ford, a crown vic police interceptor, its cheaper its heavy has the same moter as a 90s mustang gt im happy with that, might mod it a bit though, its not fast off the line but smokes Hondas and such, ots mostly a tank and a tough car though. A classic.

That's a funny myth, ford won the second class but not the over all victory.
Hed have flashbacks.
I own a Ferrari 458 Challenge, and I approve of this video :)
That was some fun dicing and some very nice driving by Karl. And that Camaro is a beast!
I love the sportsmanship.
That Camaro is easily one of my favorite cars! Nicely done!
A beautiful Camaro (I owned two 1969 Z/28s) and great driving!
The two dislikes are from the Miata drivers!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
because a Ls miata would be Kissing his bumper all day long
Miatas are actually pretty nice an LS swapped Miata has beaten Ferraris and gone to to toe with a zo6 vette.
@@TheNorcalshooter 🙄 so would a jet powered one, but this ain't fantasy land. Lol. If the gloves are off he could turbo the Camaro. Bottom line: an LS swapped Miata isn't a Mazda Miata anymore is it?

Just because a car is better than another, it doesn't mean it will be first.
your right in every way
your right in every way
Watch your mirrors Vette!!
Man that 69' is a beast, I actually yelled no at the last corner over take attempt lol that was good try but scary as hell... Good driving...
Gotta love a muscle car over 35 years n still raising hell

I wish camaros were a dime a dozen
All a Couger is, is a heavy Mustang
American muscle, stepping on exotics toes and beating them for less since 1965!
Uhh, that Camaro is F A R from stock.
Thats the point, and still costs less.
@@marcobrancorsini2479 also the camaro is old the Ferrari is new, it lost to an old fart car.

Holy Cow! Can those guys DRIVE! DZ302 Oh my Goodness!
Frank Collins thanks! It was a lot of fun, stressful and mind blowing to keep up with a 458 in a big brick.
That's not racing! Thats dog-fighting on wheels! Nice race. Thanks for sharing it!
amazing car and driving ability, at 11:40 (hair standing up) good save... that corner is crazy... good race anyway!
2 dislikes?????? How is that even possible?? Great car. Great driving. Great vid. Good job man

Ive seen a 1977 firebird take out a 2013 lambo on track had 650 hp and 750 lb ft of torque called the super chicken.
Got a bit too aggressive going into some of the turns allowing the Ferrari to press him and dictate the race to hold him off. Great run overall.
Good job. At least you stuffed the Corvette getting towed by the yellow car. Maybe some more gear?
WOW!! lots of fun!! Feelin' 16 again...
be nice to have a rear view camera shot to see the car behind as well
great driving!!

Great driving! Is it a 302?
Was rooting for you till the "dive bomb" into the last corner. Good things the Ferrari driver was paying attention enough to dodge the contact...
Yes even old muscle cars can handle tracks not just strait lines and still smoke modern exotics.
My two favorite cars on my favorite race track?!? I'll be in my rack...
BTW, what motor are you running in the Z/28?
Americaaaaa FUCK YEAH

what motor are you running in that camaro
clearly if he had a 408 in that camaro and not screwed up on that one turn he could of winn

Jim Adams Ford V8s. Not weak Chevy V8s
Patrick Simmons Ford V8s last longer, can take more abuse and cost less to fix!

Super awesome #bigred
I see 10ths everywhere.
The Camaro could have used more gearing. It was nowhere near redline at its top speed on the track.

he could've taken the vette on the 2nd lap strait if he pushed the gas a bit harder
"Engine preservation" gearing. ;)
Is this Big Red?
No way, The Big Red Camaro would have been far ahead of the 458....
@@Mikeyyyy_L Nah I don't think so. It's still an old car, despite being very fast.
Yeah...but the Ferraris have the AC on and listening to tunes driving with one hand on the wheel.

I don't see racing a Ferrari., I see trying to keep a Ferrari in sight

Its called a "corkscrew".
Glad you passed the vette, I quickly got tired of looking at that ridiculous wing.

the other cars got half the weight with the same power. . sorry camero
This track needs longer straightaways. To many corners.
Laguna Seca is a pure horsepower track. Have you even been there?

15:05 get that piece of shit economy car (shitvic) off the track!!!!
I'm sorry but, please get that gay ass wing off the Vette!
That wing is actually providing downforce unlike the ones you see on any car on the street not traveling 100 plus.
