Well Meghalaya is a state in Northeast India. The indigenous people of Meghalaya are the Khasi-Jaintia and the Garo people,besides there are other people from different parts of Northeast India and also mainland Indians who have settled down in Meghalaya. More than 75 percent of the population are christians,but the christian population of indigenous people is more than 85 percent. Meghalaya is a small hilly state of India with a population of about 3.7 millions and an area of 22,600 sq kms.English is the official language.So English is widely understood among the educated ,especially in urban areas,besides English, khasi and Garo Languages Hindi, Bengali are also spoken since many Bengalis and other mainland Indians are in Shillong and in different parts of Meghalaya .
