A great video Simon and most of the points you raised are in my 2023 goals. For example I am currently building and modifying the Sesame Street set and also have the instructions from Brickvault to build a Tie Defender. Spending less is a definite for me this year and will focus more on specific sets and be more selective. I also intend to cut into my backlog and at the same time sell some of it to raise money for sets I really want. All of these are in addition to clearing and sorting the box room in the house to make into a dedicated Lego room. I’m not really sure whether I’ll have time to go to work though 🤔😂
Thanks Simon and good to hear that you are modding your Sesame Street set (I saw your posts on Instagram) + that Tie Defender is a superb build. I've a few SW large builds on my 'plan' for the year, can't share those now, but I think you'll like seeing them when I get to them. All the best to you for selling off your excess Lego and de-cluttering/streamlining your collection!
My LEGO goal for this year is already set. I've designed a pretty interesting extension for Lions Castle set 10305 and I'm perfecting the build in " Studio 2.0" right now. When it's done I need to source all parts and build it in real life before I can proceed and post it on re- brickable. I've some other project there and I consider that a success already.
Great video Simon, ‘less but better’ is a great rule to apply. If I was to have a Lego resolution, it would be to focus more on what I’ve got and enjoy modding existing sets.
Discovered your channel a few days ago enjoy your Lego content, good job Simon, you have inspired me to try the rebrickable boaster rockets for the Nasa Space Shuttle, just got to get my head around ordering from Rebricable first( have watched your video on how too)will just need to watch a few more times , excellent chanel
Thank you for subscribing David, much appreciated! I'll be focusing this year on several of these 'topical' type videos as well as the regular custom builds and mod type videos. As for the Space Shuttle it's a big but very rewarding project - and of course definitely go with TheBrickFrontier's version + launchpad. I think you'll be very happy with them!
I categorise all the sets in my collection to maintain consistency and encourage selectivity in my purchasing habits. For instance, my Star Wars collection is exclusively based on Episodes IV/V/VI with the majority being UCS sets. While I'm prone to buying 18+ sets I steer clear of certain subthemes like the Helmets Collection because I know going down that rabbit hole will only dilute the collection. This year will be big though as we're getting sets based on Episode VI, the Deathly Hallows and long-lost themes like Indiana Jones and the Lord of the Rings. As such, I'm only going to buy LEGO during Black Friday or Double VIP Points so I can save the most amount of money possible.
Good thinking Lachlan and I like your discipline. For example steering clear of certain product lines/runs like the helmet sets. Because it really does commit you to buying the full line-up. I've been suckered into the helmet sets, and funnily enough even though I own all of the helmet sets they have released to date I've only built 3 of them! Good thoughts too on 'timing' your purchases to maximise the discounts you can get. Have a superb day!
Hello sir, I'm making 2023 a "Year of Focus"...meaning I'm being ultra-selective on what sets to buy. No more purchasing extra or random sets. And I will revist past builds and mod them with the latest pieces. As always, an insightful video. 👍
That so good to hear - and I'm doing the same, no more purchasing of those extra or random sets as you say. An example for me is the A-frame cabin, it is cool and I think the model has been well executed, but I don't feel any connection to it and I know if I bought it it would just sit storage unbuilt. So it's a pass for me. = $ saved!
Hi Simon I enjoy your videos Their just chill and not pushing all the sets you own down your viewers necks. Keep up the good work. This year I am going to try and build a VE ute about the same size as the mustang theres no custom au cars that Ive been able to find.
That sounds like a great project! If I was taking on that project I'd probably start with modelling up the Mustang or one of the other Icon's sets in Studio, just building it from the standard instructions. Maybe even just starting with the chassis. And then I'd use it as a foundation to re-adjust the lines and shapes to look like the ute. Just an idea and good luck with the project!
Simon, great video. I really like the focus on mindfulness and being deliberate. I have returned to LEGO after a long absence and am really enjoying it. Your videos are interesting and inspirational. Keep up the good work. Matt
Thank you Matt! I'll be doing a few more of these 'topical' type videos this year so I'm glad you liked it and that is was interesting. Next video will be on mods for the Optimus Prime set. I've kicked off the build of the standard model today! Have a good one, cheers, Simon.
Those are good options to stick too - but yes even if sticking to just say 1 or 2 product lines or several custom models - man this hobby can get expensive fast! I'm going to be building more of my backlog of custom models this year. But with the channel I'll still have to buy some newer sets and models to show : )
2023 is the year of building my 2022 sets. I’m working the blacksmith which I’ll mod to go with my tall neck… I want to have a Horizon Zero Dawn theme between them as well as the tree house when I get to it.
All excellent projects Regan, and I have building some of my unbuilt backlog of 'customs' and some sets I bought in 2202 on my list as well. Happy New year to you mate!
Hi SImon, fantastic first video for 2023, I loved the ideas you presented! my goals this year are to build more custom sets and as you said "Shop my own collection" and construct more mods on Lego designed sets - I would also like to thank you again for your Lego give away at Christmas as I was one of your winners - (really enjoyed building the McLaren set). Looking forwad to the next one and cant wait for your custom sets, good luck with that but im sure they will be a winner!
Thanks Robert & I'm stoked to hear you are enjoying building the McLaren set! And you building more custom models this year is music to my ears. I'm not saying my stuff, but models that you like say from Rebrickable or BrickVault or BuildBetterBricks. I'll do a video later in the year about things to avoid when buying instructions for customs that may be of use! Cheers, Simon
Absolutely love this video! I'm constrained by a budget so some of this is auto applied, though I do really want to focus that budget on customs this year! Thanks so much Simon :)
Thank you Damien! And you are one of the few of us who is disciplined with budgeting on Lego spending - I'm aiming to get better this year and control my spending. It can get out of hand quickly!
Hi Simon, I was wondering if you have any plans for the McLaren F1 (42141) I have just bought this kit and was wondering if you had any improvements i could use before starting to build. Thanks again for your great channel, Chris
Thanks for the comment & support Chris! Unfortunately I don't have plans to buy the F1 for myself / to build for the channel. I did a little digging, there a few minor mod ideas in this forum thread: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/189604-42141-mclaren-formula-1%E2%84%A2-mods-and-improvements/ As for Rebrickable - not much there, only some alternate builds and RC mods rebrickable.com/mocs/?show_printed=on&include_accessory=1&include_gear=1&q=42141 If you are into F1 Technic style cars however - you must check out Lukas's work - he is incredibly talented! : rebrickable.com/users/Lukas2020/mocs/ I hope this helps + enjoy your build! Oh that all sounds very good! Please send me then link to your mod design when you get it published, I'd love to see it! : )

Totally agree. I go back to recent sets and mod them with some of the newer pieces. Its quite enjoyable.
I just watched your Tie Bomber mod video, nicely done! And I look forward to seeing you cover more set mods : )

@@CraftedBricks yep, hence the ultra-selective part.

In an ideal world I’d only buy UCS and Custom models, then get the minifigs separately. Oh to have the money!

Hi LegoOverload, I'm not understanding your comment - can you elaborate on it?
