How To Apply A FURAZONE Sweat, DMSO Leg Sweat

- A furazone sweat is a commonly used leg sweat on the race track. DMSO is also a great veterinary tool you should have handy. If you are not experienced with the use of DMSO, then avoid it as you could drive harmful chemicals or medication into your horse's skin as well as your own. This method of reducing swelling in the horse's leg is very useful. The practice of leg sweating makes the horse more comfortable by alleviating painful pressure in the leg. A furazone sweat is for superficial injuries due to impact, scratches on the legs, that cause swelling and stocking up from lack of being stall bound. Diet changes also can cause swelling in the legs of horses. If you think you have a more serious injury, such as a bowed tendon or suspensory ligament injury, please call a veterinarian for advice.
When using DMSO, always make sure you use gloves of mixng with medication. Also consult your veterinarian before attempting to combine anything with DMSO. DO NOT combine DMSO with any type of brace containing menthol, peppermint and other ingredient meant for topical use only. Rule of thumb: If you wouldn't inject it into your veins, don't mix with DMSO. If you are unsure, then it's best to not mix at all. You obviously don't inject furazone into the vein, but it's a veterinarian approved mixture to apply on the legs. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I like that she has a helmet on when working under the horse. Smart.
Perfectly done by an expert in the field.
Great video!!
Janine Groop thank you
Well done, thank you!
When you said cayenne pepper he got loud.Lol
gary smallwood lol. I didn't notice that. So funny!
I've never seen Saran wrap put on the outer part of the bandage. We always put it over the sweating ointment underneath a quilt

yes, that is done as well. That also can lead to the plastic shifting and possibly putting pressure on the tendon.
Yeah we did the saran wrap the other way. And we used Listerine mouth wash to sweat the leg
@@chucktaylor4849 does it work?
Dmso is a carring agent for the furazone which carries the medicine across the blood brain barrier. If plastic is placed directly over the meds it stands to reason the chemicals from saran wrap/toxins could be carried into the blood stream too
If the horse wants to take off the bandages use old car oil or WD40 so is slippery, one of my horses takes em off by crossing the legs until he takes em off... but oil work pretty good.
Yeah we u post to put the saran wrap under the wrap. But we use Listerine mouth wash to put on there legs the mint flavor
How long do you leave it on
I have always done the saran wrap directly over the paper and under the no bow. Why is this method better?
laura gordon The plastic can bind up under the bandage putting dangerous pressure on the tendon or cause the wrap to slip all together. The best reason is that you will a better sweat and you will notice because the bandage will be soaking wet in the morning. I have done both ways and I have found this to be a preferred method.
I would never apply saran wrap outside the cotton wrap. I would much rather deal with a leg issue than an intestinal obstruction from horses who like to pull wraps off. I don't care what is applied as a deterrent. Would you ever knowingly allow your horse to chew plastic wrap of any kind? Besides, applying any type of a deterrent to a non porous surface is pretty non effective. Would never sweat a leg like this. MO.
Did u know dmso carries what ever is muxed or ontop of it into the bloodstream? It also crosses the bloodbrain barrier. I'd rather secure not take that chance and just add one more layer over saran at the end of this method
I ve never seen it with clingwrap on the outside. We usually put it under neath everything
Dmso carries whatever it absorbs into the bloodstram crosses blood brain barrier too. Safest 2 use cotton on top of dmso imo
Hi
we always put the saran wrap over the no bow. dont know where she got that from. cause a horse can tear the saran wrap off. n thats whats sweating the horse. smh
Bravo Number 6 if you have a horse that doesn't leave his bandages alone you can apply a mixture of water and cayenne pepper. putting the plastic between the no bow and the bandage is commonly done, but I prefer this method because it's less likely to shift or slip. Its also preferred because if you do utilize the pepper mixture clean up is much easier.
That way is outdated. The outer wrap tends to slide when in between. This may be a less common way but now is standard in the racing industry.
Can it be injected as well as rubbed in ?
What benefit does adding dmso do?
It transports Furazone through the skin.
Dmso carries furazone or any meds thru skin & all tissue into the bloodstream plus crosses the blood brain barrier. So i wouldnt put saran wrap onto the skin toxins from plastic can be carried into blood too
