The Big Picture - Education agenda for New India

  • There is a dire need for revolutionary changes in the India's education system, there is no doubt about that. The cut-offs at some of the top universities is over 99% if not 100%. Students are pushed to the brink to try and further their educational ambitions. Several aspects need to be addressed if we have to achieve the desired results and head in the right direction. India has one of the youngest populations in an aging world. By 2020, the median age in India will be just 28, compared to 37 in China and the US, 45 in Western Europe, and 49 in Japan. But for us to reap the benefit of this demographic dividend we need to ensure that we see an overhaul in our education system. The Finance Minister, Mr. Arun jaitley in an exclusive interview to me over the weekend, said that education will be one of the key focus areas if his government comes back to power. On this edition of the big picture we will analyse the education agenda for a new and changing India.

India currently have 15 lakh schools upto class 8th whereas China have only 5 lakh but the results are totally opposite in quality education.

@@shyamu431 I also read such numbers on internet , but the point is ....... In India about 1.8-1.9 crore children born each year now.
and if we have 15 lakhs school, then it seems every school is opened for just 12 children only.... that sounds hilarious :)

Thanks Rajan and RSTV for bringing such a quality program upto us. Intelligent panelist specially Prof Anita Rampal and other guests. Major difference in their views are philosophy in which they believe. Prof Rampal believe a humanistic approach of education while others have economist view on education. One believe education is an endivour to make human and develop a humanistic society while other's think it as a medium for economic contribution of the nation. So all have different arguments. However, Frank you summed up the entire discussion nicely

    Samagra shiksha abhiyan
Issue :- teacher education needs to relooked on
National mission on teacher training can also not been put in place
It’s about focusing on teachers ,learning etc ...!
At primary level :- delhi govt have set a good example for public education
We all have to take the responsibility
    Parents -teachers -children’s -society
Secondary :- Rashtriya madhyan siksha abhiyan
    Tertiary:- rastriya uchhatkar shikshya abhiyan
    Improving substandard quality of education
Marks outcome based - performance skills based
Investment should raise from 26% to 36 % in education
Hand holding taking and management stakeholders
Distant learning programs should be looked very carefully
    Greater diverfication on formal education

Please close all private school, college and educational organisations up to 12th standard . This will help a lot in good and equal education system because there are many discrimination in our society towards private school and government school . If there will be not any options for private schools then most of people ( politicians, bureaucrats and officers of education ) concentrate on development of government schools.
Also set up micro manufacturing unit in the Government school ( above 6th standard ).
    #Discrimination creates differences
This is my own opinion, if any body agree with me. Like and raise your voice in favour of United India and developing India.

Thanks for this, also the education system of ours was created by the British who implemented this for no creativity in children of India
Therefore the whole education system must be recreated which doesn’t make children memorise stuff but also enhance their creativity, their mentality, their knowledge but more importantly teach them to be a good person by teaching them good values and how to respect others.

our education has merely inject the aim on childrens to crack exams. It needs much more social integration than isolation.
Diversification and quality building programs are needed in education sector.

Our indian forefathers were very worried about the education system dished out by the Brits. They thought education was turning into something that was all about jobs. BEFORE the industrial revolution, (after which education became all about jobs) WHAT was education all about? If attention was paid to that on top of focusing for jobs, a much better society could've been achieved. Btw, I too am running after jobs, but those jobs from where I can make an impact. You should too, for our kids sake.

I recommend govt to start one congnitive curriculum where all doubts of students as a feed back should be recorded and these doubts needs to be taught in schools by a competent teachers.

Basic education condition are worst in Uttar Pradesh. Resently up govt started teacher recruitment for that. Govt set high cutoff so that only good student can become teacher. But there were few having low marks went court against it. They complained that proper Rules were not adopted. So finally high court struck down govt high cutoff and lowered the cutoff . As court said it was against the right to equality.😀

Why graduate students are not qualified for jobs?.. answer lies in lack of industry- academia coordination.. In acedemic study we are learning old subject that are not in demand or relavent today in market.. for eg AI, machine learning, big data etc. In our country there is good example of medical colleges which are linked to hospitals so that students could learn and as well practice. We should adopt these kind of model in other sectors too, like engineering, tourism, etc.

Challenge; teacher education. Pakistan public school. Good school gives library. Science lab. None of them is available in public school. Teacher's driving is not. Invest in good teacher. Good labs for science. Education system has not worked well in Pakistan. Quality of school education. Teaching has become job for people not profession to learn and teach.. Quality teachers will produce quality students. Are we promoting teaching?
Parents do not send public school. First priaroty of parents is to send children to private schools.. Untill and unless we take serisuly the education.
