I am Jamaican...living in Jamaica and my favourite Jamaican foods are curried goat, oxtail and beef patty. It was lovely watching this episode and all the episodes as a matter of fact!
It's a sin, I've had oxtail once, back early 80's .I was in Jr. HS and a female neighbor cooked. That food looked so good. I have to find a really good Jamaican restaurant here in DC or DC area. 😊
I do patronize Yardy too. Their beef patties are bomb, soup is excellent & Oxtails are tender & mouth watering. I just don't always have time to make it over there. Too much traffic but I go at least once a month. So worth trying!! Mr. Yardy is kind & very personable!!
Back in the 1980's, I would eat at a small Jamaican restaurant in Monterey. I loved their jerk chicken so much, I bought a small bag of jerk seasoning. Whenever I barbequed, I would sprinkle a bit of seasoning on the meat, trying to make that bag last as long as possible. You have to remember, back in the 80's, Japanese restaurants were still a rarity; Jamaican restaurants were unheard-of.

Ackee with rice and peas is great although most people will eat with "provisions", also called "food". Ackee and saltfish or ackee by itself goes with anything. I like it with hardo bread, rice and peas, overnight dumpling.
Pastor Steve, you are not afraid to get down and dirty! I love how the sauce is dripping down your face while you are reviewing the dishes! This is a restaurant I would enjoy whole heartedly! Jamaica is a place I've not visited, however I've been to Nevis, St. Kitts and Grenada. I imagine the cuisine maybe similar? The sea bass looked delicious. My mouth was watering. However, I was eyeing the ox tail and the beef barbecue!!! I also enjoyed your lovely shirt! Plus, the music! And the proprietor had his gloves and mask on while preparing food from scratch and his restaurant was spotless!!! A major plus!! What is the saying? "Cleanliness is next to Godliness"? Thank you for visiting all these wonderful restaurants. Upon my next visit to Los Angeles and Las Vegas I will know the best places to eat! I'm keeping a log! ❤❤❤❤🌸🤟!!!!!
Like Haitian food, I've never tried any Jamaican dishes either - I thought it would be unbearably spicy. Everything looked delicious and very appetizing. Thanks for the recommendation. Going to have to get my free drink!
As a Caribbean person, no other food in the Caribbean can compare to Haitian good. Haitian food is seasoned, but you can actually taste what you are eating without all that seasoning that is over used - remind me on how my grandmother use to cook

The timing is not in the eating or cooking but in when you pick it for use. When fit or ready it opens up, thus releasing the gas that could be harmful. One should never force the pods open, allow them to open on their own.
A Jamaican burrito? From many people, come one! They should have done the burrito in roti!!! The snapper seasoning is what is called escovitch fish, vinegar, pimento, scotch bonnet pepper, onion, sweet peppers
As a Jamaican, food looks great but, we normally do not eat rice and peas with seafood. Seafood is usually eaten with, bammy (cassava bread), Johnny cakes/ fried dumplings, festival (sweet fried corn bread), or white rice. I've never seen ackee and saltfish eaten with rice & peas. We have our own flat bread/ wrap called, roti. Traditional jerk meats are slow smoked, over green pimento wood not charcoals. Food does look good but not Traditional.
My mom was born in Jamaica and my dad was born in saint Vincent. I was born in Havana Cuba. Jamaican food has a lot of vinegar. Red snapper , ackee and salt fish. Carrots and peppers surprised it may have jalapeño jalepeno
Lot of vinegar...no dear...only on escoveith...pepper yes...Vinegar is used to clean all meat though... Sweet and spur chicken or fish may have vinegar as well...but it's not good for the bones...so we don't dunk it on our food
I went here last week Saturday, just because of this video. Was visiting from Sacramento. My husband Is Jamaican, and I love his cultural food! We were so disappointed! I had the stew chicken, my husband had the jerk. Let's start with the rice n peas! Now I've had tons of Jamaican food from several different Jamaican restaurants so I know good food. The rice taste like a it came from a pouch from Walmart, Both jerk and stew chicken were bland, no flavor at all. The food did not look like the video, so I'm thinking that they over did it just for the video. I will say though, we had the oxtail red pea soup, and that was the bomb! Flavorful and brought my husband back to his youth! If I go back it will only be for that soup! But I doubt if I'd go out of my way to go here just for soup. Also the jerk chicken was not cooked, my husband bit into a leg and there was blood! Not cool...
Ackee is safe to eat only if it's ripe, actually. The ackee pods opens up when it's ripe, releasing the gasses that would cause hypoglycemia if you forced the pods open.

For the ackee to be safe to eat, the fruit pod has to be opened naturally on the tree. Then it's safe to consume.

I hear you. They could vary their menu, but they have to appeal to a wider audience. Not sure I’ll want to go to a Jamaican restaurant to eat white rice and tin mackerel!
@@faithgurl08 I know what u mean ,but am talking about ppl in general not only restaurants. When advertising Jamaican food their is no diversity .
