The five voice fugue in C is technically dense and poses significant challenges to the performer to keep everything headed in the right direction. Just when you think he has said everything possible with the subject, he adds the pedal line in augmentation. In homage to the famous American organist, the fugue subject has been dubbed, "Lippincott, the name is Joan..."
