The difference is that the founding fathers were fighting for the rights of everyone, where as some of the politicians are fighting for their rights while taking away the rights of the people.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong, even if you had finished high school. Nearly all of the politicians of that time were self-dealing. It wasn't considered a crime or morally wrong either. Ben Franklin was actually named a Stamp Tax collector before he saw the fate of some of those who were in other cities and switched sides.

There is truth to that, If that is true, then what is mechanism by which they are corrupted?
Obviously, the morally bankrupt "education" system is present in the reason. Media depictions of historical figures plays into it as well.
But the bottom line answer is likely as simple as this: the two parties are run by the most egregious of bad faith actors and through the institution of the party, they run a system in which no honest person can succeed. The two parties do not represent Americans, they represent a giant industrial concern that preys upon Americans at the ballot box.

The average citizen doesn't pay attention after election day. It's very disheartening when a guy can rattle off useless stats about his favorite football team or player but ask that same person when was the last time he attended a local government meeting or a school board meeting and you'll hear crickets. People are burying their heads in the sand and not participating in their civic duties.

  • @spacemissing

The founders were trying to make a government better than any that had existed in history,
one that could not legitimately discriminate, oppress, or subjugate its citizens.
And to a great extent they succeeded ..... until the railroads made travel so easy and so fast that politics could become a career.
Not that I have anything against railroads. The fault is, rather, in those individuals who do not serve only a term or two
and then go home to live under the laws they have made; instead, they abuse their position and never want to leave.

One key difference is that the Founding Fathers were far younger than the fossils we have in DC today. Today, being a politician is a career. Back then, that was not the case. We need to return to short-term politicians via term limits. DOGE is another opportunity to make some sorely needed corrections to this corrupt system.

The difference is that the Founding Fathers didn’t think we could have a republic if there was a great difference in wealth. The Founders only allowed business corporations to be sanctioned, in order to build a large project. When the project was over so was the corporation. In a free market there are no corporations because the government doesn’t charter corporations in a free market.
