  • We are being sensitive. Sensitive to model train movement and model train operators moving about the layout. Track sensors. Motion sensors. Current sensors.
This is part one, an overview of DC ONLY systems. IR systems. Photocells. Current detectors. Capsidence sensors. And magnetic track detectors. And an intro to the LGB 1015K with a 17100 magnetic sensor for automatic reversing system. AND a look at making your own unit for about $8.
NOTE! THIS FOR DC ONLY RAILROADS. DCC will be covered in a later video.

Hi Dale & Karyn. There is another sensor that can be used called RFID. This is where all of the locomotives, rolling stock, and switches have a decoder read by a computer. So you can have the computer route the trains and do yard sorting. Really fantastic way of making model railroading realistic.

Thanks for the info! Yup super super exotic stuff. And bar code. We saw a layout with about 1000 pieces of rolling stock that uses bar codes on the bottom of the cars.

Very interesting. I was just going-to do polarity switching manually. ‘More fat o chew on. See you Sunday!

I have to say: I wish my EE course in college had been this fun.

My EE class was on transistor theory back in 1963. There was no such thing as LSI, LOL.

I believe Touch Toggles are a capacitance sensor.

    Extremely informative!
Curious, what program do you use for drawing your layout?

Photoshop. Some illustrator. And my old 3D. Light wave. I used to teach it.
