A friend of mine was on one of these shows, a televised singing contest. She wound up being the last person under 18 on the show, and the producers wanted an adult to win. The singers were supposed to choose a song to perform every week, and then be judged. To get her off the show, the producers specifically chose a song that didn't suit her voice or style, and then had her eliminated because the song didn't suit her.

I know someone who was a contestant on master chef Junior. They made better food than most of the other kids on the show, but were made to leave on the first episode of that set. (Despite having a full finished product when the one girl burnt the shit out of hers.) My sister knows a family that was on House Hunters. They, like you said, had already bought a house. The “issue” they were supposed to have with their old home was not enough space, but they had enough space. The producers had them gather all of their children’s toys into one corner of a room in their house to get all the “problem” shots.

This reminds me of the time my mom had to opportunity to call a celebrity “live” on one of those morning talk shows. Her original question was something super normal like “how to do you manage your work and home life” or something like that but when she spoke to the producer on the phone before the show they asked her to say a predetermined question that was something really inappropriate, but she went through with it because she wanted to be on tv and speak to an actor. The celebrity was sooo uncomfortable with the question, you could tell it was really embarrassing for her (you’d think she’d have a predetermined reply too right?) and my mom regrets agreeing to it to this day. In conclusion i hate television.

Same as all the fake af "questions" that Andy Cohen poses to the real housewives, either at the reunion shows or on the WWHL episodes. I've seen the faces some of the housewives make when he's reading the questions, weird almost eye rolling smirks/smiles, because they know. There is no "Jeanine from Wichita" who wants to know blah blah blah. It's Andy and/or the show's producers crafting really shady questions because they want to segueway into certain controversial plot point happenings.

I’m pretty sure “The Masked Singer” is all scripted, too. They portray it like all the celebrities are actually being chosen based on their singing ability, but in reality, I believe it’s determined who’s being sent home before they even perform. The first couple seasons I didn’t notice this, but in the recent seasons they’ll give an extra clue for the person being sent home that night. Also I think the judges are being fed guesses. Sometimes they’ll all be so sure about who they think someone is and suddenly the next round they’ll drop that guess and “just so happen” to guess the right celebrity- without even giving a reason why they changed their guess.
I used to watch it with my mom and my sister, and once I picked up on the patterns, every single time I was able to predict who would be sent home. My mom and sister asked me how I was able to be so accurate and I told them about the patterns between the contestants who get eliminated. Plus, if you think about it, these celebrities are pretty busy so it makes sense if even though they can sing really well, they get eliminated because they have a project they need to get back to.
It kinda ruins the whole thing when the people on the show pretend it’s real, but you know it’s not.
(EDIT: This is just my own speculation from what I've seen personally on the US version of the show- I'm not saying it's true or false, I'm just giving my take👍)

A lot of the times, the more famous celebrities do not sing good at all, but somehow the audience voted them to stay. 🤷

I knew it was fake. No kids make comedic puns on a consistent basis. Can totally confirm a lot of these. The clothes, the holding area, the nurse giving shots, also them making up narratives, they legitimately created an entire story of my life something about me being a children’s volunteer and I dressed as a clown to entertain the kids at the place that I volunteered at. Literally none of that was true. I was a early 20 something professional hip hop dancer that had already been on a world tour and a bunch of other smaller ones, dozens of music videos etc. I didn’t even want to go on the show. I was approached because I was already established and professional level. I was a contestant on SYTYCD in one of the early seasons. Made it to Vegas then essentially quit because I was tired of the fake stuff and the rigging. Had an argument with Nigel and got sent home.

Omg I was actually a contestant on that season of Master Chef Junior when I was 11! Crazy that this came up on my recommended page. I don’t think this video is entirely accurate tho, but it’s not the UA-camr’s fault really as reality TV is pretty secretive in its practices. Most of us genuinely did love cooking, myself included. And I can confirm more than half of us were NOT child actors. The winner of that season was really awkward on camera and only cared about cooking good food, didn’t even want the fame. I'm pretty sure he even started his own bakery after the show. The child actors (like Nate) actually got weeded out really quickly in the first few challenges because the producers realized they weren’t really passionate about cooking. Me and the other top 12 contestants all didn’t really like them because we could tell how unauthentic they were.
For the mystery box challenges, we only know 1 day in advance. I think that’s pretty fair given we are literally 8-11 years old. We are not given weeks as this guy would have u believe. So this guy is really exaggerating. But yes, all reality TV is fake in some way or another and that is what makes it fun. In a way, this UA-camr is doing the same thing, exaggerating for effect to make an exciting video. Just food for thought.

I'm glad you popped up in these comments because I've had a question since the first episode I watched:
How much help do the kids get behind the scenes? I know most of them are very talented, but come on!
Some of those dishes they served up left me saying, "Yeah, right...there HAS to be some adult help going on."

    • @TechnoVisionTV
      @TechnoVisionTV 3 роки тому +1193

@@Cautionary_Tale_Harris The day before each challenge, we were given one session with an adult to help us brainstorm ideas for the mystery box. Ultimately though, we were the ones coming up with the dishes and making them. If u watch closely, u can notice a few mistakes here and there. For example, Sarah accidently used cabbage instead of lettuce for the burger challenge. An adult wouldn't have made a mistake like that. For me, I got "voted" off the show by the judges for making some poor choices with one of my dishes. No adult ever stepped in and tried to correct my poor recipe design, even after I told my mentor what I was going to make! So in that sense, it was honestly as close as you can get to kids cooking without the show being a total disaster.
As for personal skill, I can tell u that I personally was cooking almost every single day before the show. I would make dinner for my family and even made a little menu that my parents could order from each night. I was very passionate about cooking and thought I would be a chef one day (funny enough, I am a computer scientist now). But my point is, we did infact have a lot of knowledge of cooking :)

He still was second runner up, but what was shitty was that he is HIGHLY allergic to shellfish and they made him cook it not only once but 2 or 3 times, and he didn’t want to drop out so he would cook it with gloves and then in between takes, he would have to go off to the side and have the medics give him epi-pen injections to open his throat back up so he could continue cooking the shellfish… Jesus.

They are also tested by the "dreamteam" before hand to make sure the concepts work. Also there is a medical check for each contestant before and after each challenge. With the Masterchef kid, I'm pretty sure the reason they brought him in was because they wanted to show that they would eliminate a kid just as brutally as they would an adult. He was one of the first eliminations of the first episode.
That isn't to disagree with your general premise. Just that in that one case, it kinda made sense. They aren't going to destroy a real kid as much as they did him (IIRC, they were pretty brutal on him -- far moreso than the "normal" kids). I just think they wanted to put to bed the idea that they were going to take it easy on kids (which they do anyway, eliminating them in pairs)
Basically, as long as they don't screw with the actual competition (and, talking to some people in these types of competitions, that shit is taken VERY seriously), they can do whatever they want.

He'd get in serious trouble if he were to "hire an actor to win the show". But outside of that, he's undoubtedly fine to stick by whatever loose "rules" he has for picking who goes home.

Rupauls drag race started having their contestants wear the same thing for every confessional as well I think after the fourth season because people were able to show how the contestants clothes would change from sentence to sentence and one of the contestants spoke out a bit about how much they cut edited and moved her confessionals around. Knowing that I just don’t trust that any of the confessionals they show are really matching up to what’s going on in the show. There’s even been a few times where they accidentally used the same confessional clip as a reaction to something happening in two different episodes. And the Finales are fun too cause they film them live in front of an audience, and the finale is meant to announce who the winner of the season is, but since they don’t air the finale live they have to keep it a secret who wins from the entire live audience until it actually airs so what they do is film ALL of the top two-three contestants (depending on the season) winning and being crowned by Rupaul and they film the audience’s reactions to all of them and everyone is just acting, the contestants and the audience are all pretending each one won one at a time. Like it will cut to the contestants family and friends in the crowd cheering and hugging and crying and you know they’re just acting because they don’t know who actually won yet they were just told to act how they would if that person did win. And then when the finale airs on TV they only play the shots of crowning the contestant that actually won. Usually the top two or three queens will meet up when the finale airs on tv and have like a live reaction to it and the winner will get an actual crown and stuff at whatever club or venue theyre at for the finale viewing party. Basically the contestants find out who wins the season the exact same time as the audience at home. The whole crowning and emotional moment in the finales is fake and acted it’s one thing I kinda hate about that show

A lot of shows take this stuff very seriously, even though they do the same shenanigans for the "drama" portions.
I took a BBQ class from one of the guys who participated on one of those shows (on Food Network maybe? It's been a few years), and he said that while carrying the BBQ boxes from the table to the judging areas, one of the assistants dropped one of the food boxes (it was closed... the food was fine). Since part of the judging was based on presentation, they then spent 3 or so HOURS discussing how to handle the situation to keep it fair. I don't remember what they decided, but in cases where the actual contest portion is involved, things that they explicitly judge on are taken very seriously.
In "Medium Raw", Anthony Bourdain (RIP) was talking about Top Chef (he hadn't been on the show for several years at that point, so didn't have a reason to lie), and said the contest portion was taken VERY seriously... with them sitting at the judging table for 8-10 hours sometimes nitpicking every detail while trying to determine the winner and especially the loser. It's why the show is taken far more seriously than Hell's Kitchen

The only difference is that, while they usually pick a house at the end of the hour, they don't always purchase that house and the voiceover at the end may mention they are still looking. My sister in law was on a show like house hunters... they filmed at me and my wife’s house in our guest bathroom to make it seem like they were having to share a cramped bathroom and needed more space... and they moved all furniture out of the house they already lived in to act like that was the one they decided to buy

I’ve always wondered why when I look one of the kids up they always have something to do with acting.

The kids don't. Their parents wanted them to.

These are the things that make me love youtube like platforms, how one can put their views out there and educate the public.

For house hunters, they could literally rework it so that they phrase it as the couples already having picked a house, but them going over them and explaining what their thoughts were, and revealing what their pick is at the end. People would still have the "which will they choose" incentive without having to lie.

“Even if they know who they’re gonna pick they legally have to pretend they don’t” tell that to Claire

yeah i actually watched that season since this, that was an interesting subversion of this idea (using it for drama). i think it only works when you have the backup bachelorette ready to go though. can't just end the season after five episodes hahah.
