I've worked in some places where you didn't know whether to wipe your feet going in or coming out. Thanks for doing what you do as a service person out there.
It is sad that whoever did that did not go to the minimal expense of getting some actual duct tape (not the duck tape too many people call duct tape) and sealing those gaps up so that conditioned air was not being blown into that attic. The money saved in heating ( and maybe cooling) would have paid the cost of a roll of duct tape a thousand times over.
That was a difficult job for you Curtis, and well done Thanks to you. I feel sorry for those young dogs crammed into those cages, i feel this should be reported 😮 Au
Return grill and filter bad for sure. The flex duct connection was a head slapper; talk about not even close. I saw the larger than 16" inches ( O.C. ) on the joists and hoped you had some old plywood or OSB for a temp platform. Nice work. Thanks for sharing for the retired guys too.
You're so lucky you have that van. My company has only GMC and Chevy junk. There's something wrong with any of our vans at any given moment, they're uncomfortable for the long drives we do, and they're 5 years in the past. The 150,000 mile 2019 GMC they gave me today doesn't even have bluetooth or a key FOB while the Transits can be remote started. Great furnace diagnosis, though. I have only my personal for residential experience.
I'm in Virginia, I herd about that explosion in Georgia. That happened to me one time on a mid size gas boiler. It blew out the sight glass and china mans cap on the flue, rooftop. I was lucky to not be standing in front of that unit.
For the life of me, I don’t understand why people install them facing walls like that I mean, spend the thing 180° add a little bit of length to the return. It will help with the blower noise and then add some supply duct I charge extra when I gotta do dumb shit like this
I had this happen to me 5 years ago and it turned out the furnace was junk it had a cracked heat exchanger among other things wrong with it and the only way to turn it off was to turn the breaker off but the furnace was over 30 years old.
As soon as I saw that return grille I thought, they have cooked the limit control. Then you opened the grille and I saw the filter and said to myself “yup fried limit for sure “. Was surprised that the relay was the problem. What a shit hole, how do you do it Curtis? 👍👍🇨🇦
I'm guessing if it was the limit control it would just shut everything down, it's a relay that turns the fan off and on (but I'm not an HVAC guy) and that thing was cooked. OTOH, Curtis says it all pays the same, but damn. I've crawled around mice urine/turd attics and ceilings when I was a young electrician and it can certainly make you sick; maybe he's just immune to it by now.
I thought immediately after looking at the return air filter, and the top of the equipment, that it's time to go! I just don't want to get sick, from Airbourne smells and crap and then start pucking or hurling every time I see the filth, everywhere! Plus the safety hazards of the unsupported work space in front of the air handler! If you damage the sheetrock You are responsible, not them! Very upsetting and unsafe to you, and to bring this back to your home! Not No, Hell NO!!! Not for Money or to help these people. Get someone else, I will not! Sorry just the facts.
You should have put a dust mask on before going into the attic. From the looks of the return air grill and the filter it is obvious that a big part of the problem is a total lack of care by the tenants of the building and their willingness to abuse it. And I speak as someone who grew up in a very old house whose "foundation" consisted of ceder post that had rotted away a long time ago so that the floor joist were sitting on the ground and had no insulation and nothing approaching central heat or cooling. And yet we kept the house clean and well maintained as well as the yard watered and mowed.
I guess the town inspector was out on the day of the inspection. Curtis, you need to start taking service calls on the other side of the tracks. You are breathing some nasty bacteria there.
As I've watched your videos, I've noticed 2 things: Smoke Detector going off because the battery is low and the filter(s) are dirty. Anyway you can charge the customer for those things by carrying a bunch of filters and 9V batteries? I realize the people you visit are just tenants for the most part, but I figured I'd ask. Thank you for some awesome videos. I enjoy playing "detective" along side with you.
Curtis is tuff, He don't back down. Most of these AC guys wouldn't equal a sweat bump on Curtis's behind. Much less a pimple. I'm proud of Curtis for going in places like that. Those people need heat too.
As Steve Lav says “nothing but quality here” lol. Poor pups. Does your blood glucose run ok? That shakiness you get when you miss a meal was a warning sign for me I didn’t heed and I’m paying dearly for that oversight
I wouldn’t work on this, till facing right way and with safe access to it. If you fall through the ceiling and get hurt , who is gonna give you anything? And you gonna have to sent someone to fix that ceiling too. All while you limping around the house with broken leg or something, not able to go to work. I appreciate you trying to help people, but , I am sorry, my family comes first.
I would definitely keep some clorox wipes in my truck and wipe my bag and tools down before they went back in it since they had been in contact with the rat poo on that air handler.
Please please please turn in those people because of those dogs.! Those dogs are in such bad shape and that is cruel and neglect on those poor dogs! It’s freaking disgusting. I’m sure where you live. You can turn them in anonymously and get those animals out of there. Those people don’t deserve those animals. They don’t deserve to live in that filth that those people make them live in. Be the voice of the animals since they don’t have one.
When you said i know what i need, I was like yeah, you need to get the hell out of there
I've worked in some places where you didn't know whether to wipe your feet going in or coming out. Thanks for doing what you do as a service person out there.
Momma always said, "if ya don't have nothin good to say, don't say nothin at all." That's all I have to say about that.
I like the air filter and the square to round transition...
That was super crafty! Now I know that's possible... note taken. 🤣
It is sad that whoever did that did not go to the minimal expense of getting some actual duct tape (not the duck tape too many people call duct tape) and sealing those gaps up so that conditioned air was not being blown into that attic. What a dump. Thanks for sharing
You bet
Rough neighborhood brother. Curtis love you brother.
Those dogs need a rescue. Horrible people.
That filter put my teeth on edge.😮
Goodness gracious God bless you for going into those houses.
He goes in places I would never go.
Ain't no Taj Mahal....I can hear Steve Lav laughing. 😂 Thanks.
Those poor dogs 😢😢😢😢
That was a difficult job for you Curtis, and well done Thanks to you. I feel sorry for those young dogs crammed into those cages, i feel this should be reported 😮 Au

You should definitely be wearing a mask in that attic
You are hero as you are working in such difficult places and not refusing to do that!
Good fix, you are brave to go to places like that.
Go into HVAC they said. It'll be glamorous they said. Yikes Curtis, that was pretty bad - props to you and thanks for the video.
They aren’t all like that thankfully
You are a better man than me, I have been in some nasty places but as bad as that!
You're so lucky you have that van. My company has only GMC and Chevy junk. God bless you for your hard work.
You aren’t getting paid enough Curtis
Always a pain in the ass to walk to walk in attics like those!
I'm in Virginia, I herd about that explosion in Georgia. That happened to me one time on a mid size gas boiler. It blew out the sight glass and china mans cap on the flue, rooftop. I was lucky to not be standing in front of that unit.
You earned your money sir!
Looked like a lot of rat poop in attic and on top of air handler, just took a shower and feel like I need another one. Hang in there Curtis
Well at least you got to fix it. I would say it does have some air leaks. Everything about that place is filthy. Good job
Good job Curtis great info on the relay thanks for the video

Send Authority's to rescue those dogs!! That's inhumane!!
It’s time to call the “ cleaning service”!!
This is what happens with rentals nowadays. No one cares. The owner only cares if the unit is working, not whether or not it looks good.
Man, that relay was crunchy.
Nice work Curtis
Thanks 👍
Good video
Thanks
Land lords have to change the filters, tenants will not .

Sorry folks, you need to call the company who installed it! 😮😅

you all gunna have to figure it out
Curtis after you leave a job like that you need to be fully decontaminated! lol
Hazmat suits would be needed.
I do not miss owning rental properties…
I thought I got shit straight in here
There’s no absolutely excuse for living in filth.
Hope you charged them people >>>>a lot
That install look's a mess. Good luck and be safe from Philly.
Got warm

With mice I'm more inclined to think of Hanta Virus
👍👍👍
You are risking it for the biscuit

What’s the longest you have gone without a call? 6 hours?
Dang....that was a nasty one.
As Steve Lav says “nothing but quality here” lol. Poor pups. Does your blood glucose run ok? That shakiness you get when you miss a meal was a warning sign for me I didn’t heed and I’m paying dearly for that oversight

Yikes 😱
how many times I gotta do this
rough neighborhood indeed.
Does the area you work in require permits and inspections by local authorities
Yes. But, that doesn’t mean it happens
I'm getting a epa job so I can work for Dupont in stead of puron I'll make deadon
For one the AC return door needs to be pressure washed I would refuse to go in that s*** hole
Another puppy mill
It looks like an illega; puppy mill.
And poor dogs always clean that grill with water instead of a brush
i would have left and not fixed anyhing after seeing those pit bulls in crates. you cage up animals, you deserve nothing
They need to be in jail over the way they have those dogs in small cages 😢
undersess
I would definitely keep some clorox wipes in my truck and wipe my bag and tools down before they went back in it since they had been in contact with the rat poo on that air handler.
it probably killed it self
all I know that’s one dirty filter when do get to the good stuff what’s the deal
Hope you had a couple dust masks on. That attic could be deadly. People …….
How do people live in pure squaller like that? Disgusting and no real excuse.
You might want to put a couple boxes of gloves in your truck.
Sad relay
Running a puppy mill, my guess is for dog fights. Disgusting.
Now we Know Why some people Own and Other people Rent. I really expected a 🦗Cricket 🦗Infestation but apparently I was Wrong. 🤔 Disgusting. 👎

your asking for trouble
Nothing irritates me more than one. It’s nearly impossible to work on due to no wood or anything to stand or sit on. Oh the filth.
Wow. Another nasty dwelling.
don’t mixe it up
first
