    So, I bought the set and it's brilliant! The segment calculator is even more brilliant! I'm doing a 15-sided jewelry box and while I couldn't cut the pieces on the table saw, the calculator was spot on as I ended up cutting on our sliding miter. It looks SO good ... so far. Not done yet. I will be using the tool to make the lid. Three tiers: first fixed with 3 drawers. It all fits perfectly with the calculator. The second tier is fixed to the bottom, but has 5-space dividers, and with the calculator, it was a breeze to cut. The top tier swivels off of the first, to expose the second tier fully. Also, the top tier has a hidden hinge to reveal the top compartments. Not sure how I'm going to do the top. So many options. But the segment calculator will be key.
    You know, I almost like the segment calculator more than the tool ... but when the stock is long enough ... the tool is awesome.

    Wow. This method is brilliant. I have a home shop, but do a lot of work as a volunteer in a local over 50 woodshop. Those miter gages are less than accurate. SO happy to have found this video on my UA-cam rabbit hole treck. I ordered the combo set through your link as well as downloaded your segment calculator. Perfect timing too because I have an idea to build a quarter column corner cabinet for a tiny bathroom with no storage. Thanks!

    Thank you for the free calculator, it is very useful. Do you have any suggestions or tools on working out the width of the segments to arrive at a desired width of the ring itself? I want to minimize the amount of wasted material and arrange the pieces in such a way that the inner joint points form the inner diameter and the middle of the outer sections form the outer diameter of the ring mark that width of the ring, so minimal material is wasted.

    If you need to calculate the size of the segments you could use this formula.
    2*(r*Tan(360/2*x) )
    x = number of segments.
    r = radius of the ring.
    Reduced.
    r/1.2071 for 8 segments
    r/1.5388 for 10 segments
    And so on.

    • @JackmanWorks
      @JackmanWorks  3 роки тому

      It includes the waste from the kerf plus the little bit on the end of the board that is usually too small to cut, so don’t add anymore waste to that

    Paul, I know this might be a bit to ask, but I have seen a lot of you makers in the States using this jig and it seems really cool. I currently own the Metabo TKHS 315M 3.1 WNB site saw. Would you be willing to tell me if this gauge would work for this saw? As it is I use a sled in a rail that I have added to the saw and a simple angle finder to make my segments, but it's an imperfect science and I am very interested in purchasing one of these, but being from Europe I don't know if this tool will work with my saw.
