The Stomp XL responded to, or capitalized on maybe, a thriving aftermarket of two-button extensions that every Stomp owner immediately bought. The Little Robbie Pilot, as well, was a direct market response to the limitations of the Stomp. When you look at the HX One and the Stomp XL in context, it seriously looks like Line 6 responded to the limitations the market screamed about the loudest.
Actually double the DSP would mean you could use higher DSP blocks without running out of options for those 8 blocks. I like to put two amp blocks with a single cab in a preset and sometimes I am limited on the combinations of amps I can choose.
I opted for the XL because the other floor models were ginormous… I just wish the XL had just a little bit more DSP so I can pitch shift with my main channel

His full response in the podcast is great insight into this whole thing

Kindof based tbf,
I loved my XL more than the stomp and even more than the regular helix to an extent
XL is my go to right now and ive been touring it for 2 years
I've been using my Stomp XL with bass for a few years and I swear by it.
How the fuck did I end up here? Y'all might as well be speaking Chinese to me.
I can't tell you why sir.
