What I'd really love to see on 3.8 are
    1) a comprehensively free MIDI mapping like with NDSP plug-ins. Snapshots are a useful compromise to what I'd prefer to be able to do, which is to modulate parameters directly by assigning them to a single MIDI control change to set them each to a specific value, then modulate them differently by assigning them yet again to another but same control change to set them each to a variant value.
    2) whatever pitch tracking that allows for poly pitch effects to work to be able to be engaged so as to send out MIDI note messages with pitch, velocity and note on/off set by a signal threshold so we can play external synths/romplers, and this w/out having to take up a block,
    3) being able to modulate between different models within a block via some command sent by footswitch or MIDI control change, just like we used to be able to with legacy L6 gear.
    4) BPM-syncable LFO, 32 step analog sequencer, and ADSR envelop parameter modulators.
Wouldn't mind a Minimoog Model D synth (or maybe Minitaur), 1176LN, and Bass Microsynth models in there too with all the parameters.

Congrats Steve on getting and presenting such a great Interview with Eric Klein. I was totally interested in everything he had to say!
Here is a list of key features that I wish my "HX Stomp" had, and a number of features I don't use why and how to possibly make them usable. My guess is all of them can be done in Firmware and Software. I hope Eric has time to read the comments to your interview with him.
    1. A 2nd Preset List: This would make it easier to have a Working/Gigging List of Presets, and a List for testing and experiments.
    2. Looper Auto Sensing "setting" to start recording without having to press a button. This would make it easier to focus on the music.
    3. Make Send/Return Jacks User Assignable so an Expression/Control Pedal could be plugged in for Volume/Wah/Parameters control. I never use the Send/Return Jacks.
    4. NAM Profiles/IR Imports. I almost never use IRs, but probably would if NAM Profiles and Cab IRs could be imported. I suspect this could be a bit more complicated due to their different file structures. Perhaps this could be done in HX Edit. I don't have a clear understanding of how Line 6 Helix Architecture processes its own compatible IRs, and how much Parameter control is implemented in Hardware. I can imagine a possible generic set of "Virtual" Parameter Controls being used to modify things like Input, Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble Tones, Gain, Output.
I agree, the Capacitive Stomp Buttons make the Modeler extremely efficient and fast to use. Thanks

#1 definitely - an extra preset list would be invaluable when using HX Stomp for lots of live use with guitar, bass, keys
      #2 nice idea
#3 also nice idea although suspect its not possible?
I suspect we won't get #4, but if its possible I hope they do it, as I've really enjoyed the TONEX and would be great to see a similar ecosystem of amp captures available in Helix world
I'd also love it if HX Stomp allowed >3 snapshots per preset, with the ability to load them via external footswitches
I'd also love a cycle between 3 values option for a footswitch, to help us make the most of the limited number of switches on the stop

If anyone from line 6 sees this PLEASE add a simple millisecond delay control to all the send/return blocks and split functions so we don't have to add a simple delay block to fixing phasing issues 🙏🙏🙏🙏 this saves a full block space and makes it easier to for instance do parallel saturation or compression with external digital effects 🙏🙏🙏

I was playing with my helix a few years ago and was experimenting with what was on there. And I found the pedal edit mode. So I played with it and thought boy. This is great. Then I’d hear people complain about editing stuff and bending over on some of the videos. And I could scream at my computer saying why don’t you use pedal edit mode it’s awesome. My big hangup in the beginning was I didn’t realize on snapshots. She had to push down on the button to change the perimeter and the highlighted white. When I found that out, it was totally great after that and I love it all. And my other hangup was high cuts and low cuts. I didn’t understand why at first. But I’m 61 years old I live in a semi truck most of my life making a living and when I get home, I play with my helix. Lol I hear people complain about how bright the sound is. Well, my old two that was the problem. You could never get that mic up sound that the record sounded like with helix and all the other six I have I could get it with just a twist of a knob.so I’ve always loved line 6. And I really like you Steve because you actually go out and gig it and tell it like it is. Thanks for all you guys do. And what a great conversation.

Love the way Eric thinks. I like the discussion about "number of switches". Me being a singer/guitar player there is a limit to how much tap dancing you want to be doing during a song. Sorry I'm not Keith Urban-LOL! But for me there is a point where switches are too close. On stage with minimum lighting at times its too easy to hit the wrong button with one's foot.

    Great discussion Steve and Eric!
The biggest issue for me with Fractal is they should have a preference in the amp you check saying you want to see the 150 extra options that don't exist on the real product. To me, it just kind of begs for you to waste time tweaking. Line 6 is still king of UI. I hope Atomic makes an updated full size modeler again. Hotone and Valeton actually do a good job, especially for the price.
I'm surprised a company as big as Yamaha doesn't have better purchasing power to stave off the supply price jumps.

Still love and use my 1998 Line 6 AX2 (the Axsys 212 with a major firmware update). Once I programmed the built in eq for a live band situation, it killed. Todd Rundgren toured with his AX2 for many years until he was afraid it was no longer roadworthy.
I Still get compliments on my tone whenever I take it out. I can do most of a gig on the tweaked Matchless Chieftain preset, have a bank set up with variations of just that one. And it’s much lighter than a comparable size tube amp. Thirty something lbs. I use a Helix for recording.

PAINFUL HONESTY: There are a million guitar pedals and effects units but almost no real vocal effects units because none of them have really nailed some of the things singers actually need the most. Ironically, the crowd notices a bad vocal tone more than a "was this the exact way a 5150 would process that".
I would LOVE to help Line 6 solve this... because most of these musicians are still dependent on good singers, and ALL of the people in the audience are, as well. It's not about you. It's about the people who want to enjoy the show... even if the show is only performed for you or on your UA-cam channel.

@Jonassonk they have a bit of everything... but still sound digitally processed. The VE-500 misses out on their compression (and pitch correction for those who want that) but both units have a good heavy pedal setup. Neither interface makes much sense for singers who are actual performers at most shows, though, or even much sense during band practice. I know how to design a more revolutionary but, frankly, usable interface.

This is awesome! By the way Steve Sterlacci made me a believer on joining the Helix world!
I have a Stomp and an HX One. I'd like a "Favorites" on the HX One. There's a handful of effects that just work. It makes it so much easier to design our own sounds.
Also I'd LOVE to see a real full blown complete "How To Tutorial" for each Helix model. As a person who's new to this & it's been around for years, there's not anything from Line 6 that's a full on run through.
Maybe just one big ass Tutorial per BIG models. One for the Helix, LT, Stomp and so on.
I sti don't know how to do anything major on mine. I keep getting lost all over. Everything from the setups to midi & creating blocks...it gets confusing to someone who's jumping in and wants it the product to be used right away within days rather than months or learning the system.
I definitely love the sounds! The Helix line is gold! 🤘🤘

I switched over a week and a half ago after my cherry got popped with buying a POD HD500x. The tones I got from it for recording are better than most of the tube amps I've owned. The only amps I really liked for recording were an Uberschall and the Dual Rectifier reborn multiwatt. Everything else was great live, but I struggled with recording. Anyways, I took the HD500x out to a gig because I loved how good it was through headphones and sure-enough, it kicked ass straight into the PA. The sound guy just matched my levels and boom. we were done within 5 minutes. Took it to rehearsal a few days later and, same thing, I loved it. Even a/b'ed it with my Hughes and Kettner head and it was literally no different in feel and sound quality. I just upgraded from the HD500X to the Helix floor today as a result. I wish I would've skipped the bs 4 years ago.

    2. I was just asked to sing for a rock cover band and we sound pretty freakishly accurate, thanks to two guitarists on their Helix floor units and a bassist on a Pod Pro. Really makes it fun.
(PRO TIP: Our drummer even picked up the new Alesis Strata Prime and his vocals dont have to compete with loud live snare or cymbals so we went in-ears and got better at harmonies.)

Hi Steve! Hope your well. This video makes the perfect occasion for asking about a trouble that I'm finding in ly workflow with snapshots. You see, for a few projects I use my Helix LT to run a PAD sound that I make out of a 3 note Generator, and assign different chors to different snapshots, while making guitar chords or phrases on top of that. My problem is that I cannot find a way of chaning the guitar sound like a channel A to B for example or switching between amps, while I change my snapshots (chords of the pad) because In Helix we have only 2 different behaviors for when we change snapshots. Weather its discard or recall snapshots it only affects them separetely I mean if you make a change in snapshot 2 for example, go to snap 3 and then go back snap 2 there it is the option to recall or discard the changes, but not in relation between all. I also thought that I could try 2 amps to make like a clean and rhythm sound and assign a stomp switch for both to bypass one and turn on the other but I encounter that there is no way to avoid bypass being also controlled by snapshot changes.
I'd be very graterful if you find a way that I could make that work without having to reduce DSP and start doubling my presets for that particular use so I have 3 Note Gen + Clean (all the chords) and other 3 Note Gen + Rhythm (all the chords)..
    Thanks for reading. Take care!

Something that can be improved upon....the simple pitch effect. It's pretty close to doing what we intend to use it for (digital capo, downtuning, etc), but glitches out just enough to make it not QUITE fully there yet. If they can get it fully polyphonic without any latency, good Lord will that feature be killer. I tune to D standard and when I go to jam with others, I'd like to be able to pitch my signal up to E so I don't have to tune. Or, sometimes I wanna have 7 string sounds without buying a 7 string.

Sadly, no support from Line 6 for Linux users yet. As it's probably not financially viable for Line 6 to do this, I'm thinking of trying to make a basic HX Edit style program compatible with Linux myself. Are there any resources available for such an endeavour? e.g. USB endpoint listings with value ranges etc.

Eric. Totally with you with Favorites. What would be equally helpful is to have favorite presets that can be referenced in different sets without needing to make a copy. So you can keep an area for experimenting and simply point to the preset in whatever location makes sense.

I got myself Pod Go, and it has balanced outs! In my opinion, this is a great product, cheaper, better, all-in-one than the Stomp / Stomp XL. When I don't need to have all the footswitches, Pod Go suits my needs perfectly. If the footswitches were not cheap garbage, it'd be a perfect product.

I'm so ready for version 2 of Helix, whenever that may be!
I started out on the Flood Pod, Pod HD Rack, HX Stomp, Hx Effects, Native and now a Helix LT.
More DSP in the next version is going to be a game changer. I now build presets with two amps (one high gain, one clean w/ separate cabs) and run out of DSP pretty quickly for FX through my snapshots. I love the favorites function as well! Gapless switching would be an excellent addition as well.
I will be waiting for the next Helix and not buying any other modeler. The UI is the best in my opinion.

I agree with you. I know there's a large crowd out there who think this Helix is fine and nothing needs to change and that's great for them. But I think the next one could be absolutely amazing. More DSP for sure, more ram, more memory. They need to look at some of the things Headrush is doing and pull some inspiration from that. I did a small wedding gig and it was awesome being able to put backing tracks on my Headrush MX5. My $1700 dollar Helix...nope. So I was kinda forced to use another product that served my needs even though I'd have rather used my Helix. Headrush is doing good things, but their lack of support absolutely kills their products.

The one feature that I wish my Helix had was minimal water resistance. I just had my Helix fry itself for the second time due to a wee bit of rain making it past a potentiometer shaft and frying the circuit board underneath. Come on guys. These get used in the real world with people on the dance floor spilling drinks (first death) and outdoor gigs with rain (second death). Time to ship it to CA and have the main board and God knows what else replaced again (another ~$400 repair bill). Sigh... I bought a Tonex ONE as a backup.

Interesting that you talk about the touch capacitance. I'm not sure why, but it was causing my Helix to go haywire, randomly switching between blocks in the display. Which was REALLY annoying when trying to edit a patch. I thought about putting in a repair order, but just turned the feature off since I don't really use it anyway. It still pops up now and then, but much less often.
