Cooler temperatures help runners. Practice helps, and injuries are the bane. Also, "The Long Walk" by Stephen King. It makes any walk more fun because it isn't That race!
I wish you would have properly animated the running in this video. It's extremely important to note, humans instinctively run toe first, heel second. The heel first thing comes from wearing shoes, which contributes to hip, back, and leg problems. Not to mention it's more stressful on your body do run heel first which would theoretically decrease your run time. Honestly, I think you guys should reupload this video with proper running displayed. This is suppose to be educational correct?
Uh that's blatantly false information. 1) Humans are built to go toes first regardless of whether or not you're walking, jogging, or running. 2) If you're physically incapable of putting your toes first when walking then I seriously suggest visiting an orthopedist.
I just noticed when replying to the comments, this channel actually uploaded a video about the exact point I'm making here. So there is literally NO excuse for this.
Again, that's because the human body naturally wants to walk on the heels when you're wearing shoes, this channel has a video on this exact topic reinforcing my point. You'll be lucky if you don't have any hip, back, or knee problems when you get older if you continue running improperly. I've ran a lot in my lifetime, and I've always felt far more stride even when not running at full speed by going toes first. If you haven't, I highly recommend you try running on your toes all the time, even when you're walking around your house. Keep in your mind to walk toes first, I guarantee you'll see performance increase. There is a lot of physical ramification to years of bad body movement. This is why many construction workers like my father build up bad arthritis in their hands and wrists because they've continued moving them in ways that wears and tears the body. Same with business men who sit in their chairs improperly all day, eventually bad movement or posture in general leads to wear and tear. It's not a debate it's a scientific fact, I suggest looking to the right of your screen and clicking the video this channel uploaded about "How Shoes changed The Way Humans Walked". Some studies have even concluded bad movement/posture over time can cause more than just bone/muscle issues, it can actually start affecting your the heart.
The point is, your body isn't designed to walk or run heel first. If you look up the negative effects of bad posture / movement (bad running technique, bad hammering technique, anything that has repetitive use on the body) you'll find all kinds of scary shit and people who've say ran their whole life improperly then get a career ending injury in their knee cap, or their hips go bad, or they get arthritis whatever the case may be. It may feel better to walk heel first if you've been doing it for a long time, but I'd highly recommend trying to become hyperaware of your movement no matter what you're doing, and try to figure out what the best way to move is. I remember in wrestling I broke my collar bone and I think It's because I had worn the muscles in my chest and shoulder area, so when I feel on the mat sideways with somebody ontop of me, my muscles were not able to rubber band the kinetic force, so it went straight to my bone. Sort of like when you punch a punching bag using your bone instead of rubber banding your muscle. Technique and movement is extremely important to health. There are so many people I know and seen online who have knee and hip issues due to running so much in bad form. There is a down side to walking toes first but typically only if you spent most your life without shoes on and tried not to get your feet dirty, if you walk around tippy toed all the time for example, you're probably not going to sustain an ankle injury because of how much muscle you'll build up around the tendons, but the foot it's self is more prone to injury. Specifically the bottom of your foot where you're forcing all your weight to go through which can actually cause a tear, and having your foot torn doesn't feel good worse than breaking a collar bone imo.

I really liked this video, would your team consider inserting your sources into the video. At 3:05 you say that studies show that running has potential positive benefits. I was just wondering what studies?
@@thanos9742 Did you watch the video? That's the whole point of humans... We can't catch a wild boar in a straight race, but we can keep jogging behind it until it *has* to stop to catch its breath, then we catch it. It's actually possible to outrun a cheetah if you run in the right pattern, because they can't keep a 70mph pace while zigzagging, and even if they could, cheetahs can only run for about 20seconds before they pass out. Edit: I am dumb, you meant sprint training doesn't help in the wild. I see. I still wanna argue though. It definitely helps, maybe not as much as stamina training does, but sprints will definitely still help your stamina. If you do 30yard sets, and only take say 5 second breaks, then only doing a couple sets of sprints a day would definitely help your stamina immensely. Source: I didn't do football summer workouts and was super out of shape at the beginning of the season, after about a month of practice where we did 10 sets of 20 yard sprints with like 7 seconds in between I was able to last the entire game without tiring. I would say that sprint training helps develop stamina more quickly, but also has a limit to the amount of stamina that you can get from it, whereas pure stamina training would probably take longer, but would definitely be more beneficial.
No, cheetahs are actually very weak in the strenght department. That means while they can run down pretty much anything they can't kill anything and also they are having trouble keeping what they kill.
Intresting.... but imho overlooked 2 extremely important factors to our advantage: training (not any human can just wake one day and go run a marathon or ultra or be fast like Bolt, they would have train pretty hard... vs most animals can immediately run fast or long) and our brain (our rationale or will power can drive us to do thing that seem beyond our limits vs an animal that would have to be chased by predator to be perhaps comparable).
Spaghetti God I'm not that sure, but it may be so. Although us being humans we probably would hunt depending less of physical attributes and more on intelligence... But again a big "if" and more speculation than fact specially if thinking of homo sapiens sapiens (perhaps could be true for one of our prior species). Cheers
aus_Chili I mean current humans still do it. It's just we've self domesticated so much. There's no reason why the majority couldn't. Literally it's been just the past 10 thousand years that humans have stopped hunting this way. Too small for major evolution. Obviously we still rely on tools such as spears. The trick is to scare an animal into running away from it's herd. Chase it down until it's too weak to fight back. And finish it and eat. Nothing too difficult
We also migrated a lot over long distances before cars of course. That could also play a role in our endurance. Endurance helped us to walk all over the globe without having to rest as much as other animals would need to.
I stopped running almost 2 years ago and i've gained 10 pounds and get aches in my knees and don't feel as healthy, definitely gotta start running again
@@meisterproper8304 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦♂️ When ur running, u lose calories and when u walk, u lose calories (a lot) 1 pound = 3500 calories (something like that) I'm pretty sure that a person can lose weight by running, but eating healthy at the same time too
the reason so many people find it hard to go run is because of bad experiences associated with running, like rushing somewhere on a schedule, or being forced to run until you vomit or feel nauseous (never do this, its stupid as hell. Its your body telling you to stop right now!) bad form caused by shoes, and the heaviness of shoes making running harder. I could barely run a mile at a scheduled track meet, in a circle around a large building complex with my heavy nikes. easily ran a mile and a half across and around a large field for fun, without shoes, and on a hot day. both instances I had been eating badly and not working out. all about perspective and circumstance ;)
The irony is people are obese because we are designed to run. We are programmed to consume as many high calorie foods as possible due to things like running.
Exercising doesn't work in favour of losing weight- it's a mere side effect. Exercises are responsible for muscle grow (and metabolism alteration which improves our cholesterol level and *regulates* body fat reservoirs). It's hard to cover up this subject in less than 4 minute video, so it's a reasonable mental shortcut you've ran (pun intended)
@@thepope2412 yeah sure. Feets and inches make much more sense too right? I mean, it is really hard to work with the metric system: 1 m=10 dm=100 cm=1000 mm... how can we memorize this?
Wrong. Whoever wrote this video has zero knowledge of physics… and animals. A human cannot outrun a cheetah under any circumstance, at any distance. A human running a marathon runs around 6mph, and they’re exhausted at the end. While a cheetah cannot sprint at 70mph for more than several seconds, they’d have little difficult trotting at 6mph for an extended period… if they were ever somehow forced to do so. Moreover, gravity does not “generate” energy when we run. And our tendons and ligaments do not “store” energy and more than any quadriped’s tendons do. If anything, they actually sap some of our energy for the sake of shock absorption before releasing some of it back.
Running does help I’m in XC this past season and over a year (with one work out program with strength components because being well balanced is important guys) with a lot of running I lost around 40 pounds so if I can do it so can you guys and running is fun and you can see the beauty of nature as well in runs. Hope this gets someone to take up running because it’s a good hobby
The majority of americans cant even jog a mile without stopping. This only goes for elite runners who train their minds and bodies to endure through the pain. Humans can have an intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for running the long distances. They have goals, support, tips, proper hydration, ect. Animals are usually only sprinting because they're either running for their life or running to eat so they dont starve. If they want to run distance at an average person's pace they can. There was a dog that joined in on a marathon.
Si, no es tan sorprendente ni nuevo, que actualmente seamos flojos es otra cosa. Cuando los españoles llegaron al norte de México se sorprendieron con los Raramuris de echo se asombraron de que podían resistir corriendo más que los caballos.
This video totally neglected to talk about our aerobic capacity, we are one of the few creatures that can do much more than the lightest jog without going anaerobic, that means we are one of the few creatures that can move at a pretty quick rate without going into oxygen debt, our stride enables us to breathe effectively while running, we can actually run most animals down in 5 or 6 miles because they simply aren't taking in enough oxygen to continue moving, so their muscles fail due to build up of lactic acid.
"What makes humans superstars at endurance running?" "Horses sweat, but less effectively than humans" *Shows endurance race that horses dominate at* BRUH
Well, they're animals. We kinda suck. Everything we do is inefficient, so it would be safe to assume any animal that can sweat, even if far worse at it, would be better at running than us. Think, chances are a decently fit guy who runs say 3 miles every day can't keep up with a pack of wolves during a hunt, even though they cant sweat at all. Now, our ancestors are another story. I think that there is a good chance 90% of our ancestors could beat a pack of wolves easily, and probably a horse if they were healthy. Humans are probably the most pathetic animals on the planet besides sloths. We are actually pretty big compared to most animals, yet we are so weak that we would get our asses kicked to us by half of our pets. There is a reason though, because our brain is so active, it requires MUCH more blood and oxygen than any other animal, so if we had huge muscles naturally like every other animal, we would either be extremely dumb or just wouldn't function at all. Bodybuilders/Strongmen can maintain both of these because they are also training their lungs to give the brain and muscles more oxygen
Right!?!? And during an explanation of how our aceles tendon is supposed to store kinetic energy so well!! It's as if the animators had no clue regarding kiniseology!!
Actually we can only outrun Wolves under hot weather. Under cooler weather wolves (and huskies) beat us. African painted dogs still beat us under warm weather in endurance runs. Ostriches and Emus also leave us in the dust in both sprints and endurance.
@horseshit1503 Firstly the whole running down prey to exhaustion is a myth. Studies show the average speed of these hunters is like 6kph, which is walking pace. Secondly if you know anything about marathons people literally have to replenish throughout the race or else they'll collapse of either dehydration or lack of electrolytes. Thirdly there is no study that actually compares the best runners on earth in a scientific test that deems humans as best. It's all hearsay. The truth is when humans hunted these animals it was essentially walking and tracking and even then the animal was likely injured already because realistically a healthy deer is running a mile or more in a sprint and can easily catch it's breath by the time the human has walked up to it and then the cycle would continue. And even then since when is that a good bases to class humans as the best runners. Because if a human was so sprint over and over like the deer is they'd be dropping from exhaustion too 🤣🤣🤣 So a better way to look at it is the best endurance animals running at the same speed as a human jogging. In that case the human would simply lose 10/10 because a wolf doing 6-12 mph is like asking a fish to breath in water😹😹😹 So the notion that humans are the best runners because they can walk and catch up to an animal that has sprinted all out multiple times might be one of the dumbest myths I've seen circulating the Internet.
In spite of the presentation, I'm not convinced. Firstly, Han hunters don't chase prey. They track it. And while tracking, they walk. Next, humans do not have the endurance of hyenas that are able to chase prey over a very long distance even though their pace would be more compared to a jog than to a sprint. Lastly, where is the evidence that a human could chase down a horse in full gallop? Even elephants can run faster than humans.
anyone who has functioning legs and actually trains can run at long distances. The real mystery is how they keep their knee cartilage from wearing out so fast with all that running.
You can´t look at people living in modern society when talking about physical performance. We live out of our natural habitat. Those primitive tribes in Africa (if there are any left) are the ones you should look at. While there may be some fat ones, most of them are slim and could probably run pretty long distances before having to rest.
So we evolved to pretty good runners (I don't buy the "best" of this inaccurate video) and we have since regressed to the worst runners (most non-athletes)
I don't know if this is true, but I heard from someone once that long distance walking has close to the same benefits as running, but causes far less wear on the body. So the point is that it's better for you to train in proper walking than it is to train in running.
you'd have to walk considerably further, not to mention it would take MUCH longer, and not everyone has time to walk for 2 hours when they could jog for 30 minutes.
1:40 who else runs with their ankles coming in contact with the floor first??? Far as I remember, I & most people I know, run on their toes & foot, seldom letting their ankle touch the ground!
We're definitely not the best distance runners in the animal kingdom, but we're certainly in the top 5. Camels, Ostriches, and Pronghorns can easily beat us in a marathon and finish in half the time that we do.
@@maximillian1109 Ancient humans would have been good athletes though. They would have built a ton of endurance by chasing their prey. Us modern humans don't live in our natural habitat and have not built up much endurance at all.
If you think about it... humans are like the villains of horror movies: Always chasing, always one step behind until the extra slips up and gets hacked to bits.

Captain Buggy Not suprising because it's about Evoultion.

You should mention that sprint training is more beneficial to your physique than distance running, though both have their place

Intresting.... but imho overlooked 2 extremely important factors to our advantage: training (not any human can just wake one day and go run a marathon or ultra or be fast like Bolt, they would have train pretty hard... vs most animals can immediately run fast or long) and our brain (our rationale or will power can drive us to do thing that seem beyond our limits vs an animal that would have to be chased by predator to be perhaps comparable).
aus_Chili Well if humans lived in their natural habitat and still hunted for food. I'm sure they'd all be able to run long distances
I mean almost anyone would probably be able to beat any animal exept horses in a marathon if they trained for like, a year.
Pretty much every wild animal is in its peak physical condition.
What about Siberian Huskies tho?

fun fact: you swing your hands while runnning or walking to use up less energy
this is another reason why humans endurance is so great
the reason so many people find it hard to go run is because of bad experiences associated with running, like rushing somewhere on a schedule, or being forced to run until you vomit or feel nauseous (never do this, its stupid as hell. Its your body telling you to stop right now!) bad form caused by shoes, and the heaviness of shoes making running harder.

Exercising doesn't work in favour of losing weight- it's a mere side effect. Exercises are responsible for muscle grow (and metabolism alteration which improves our cholesterol level and *regulates* body fat reservoirs). It's hard to cover up this subject in less than 4 minute video, so it's a reasonable mental shortcut you've ran (pun intended)
diet is more important but muscle also helps to burn more calories resulting in more fat loss.
we need to stop calling it weight loss and change it to fat loss instead.

Us running is so great and nice video man :]

"What makes humans superstars at endurance running?"
"Horses sweat, but less effectively than humans"
*Shows endurance race that horses dominate at*
BRUH

Actually we can only outrun Wolves under hot weather. Under cooler weather wolves (and huskies) beat us.
African painted dogs still beat us under warm weather in endurance runs.
Ostriches and Emus also leave us in the dust in both sprints and endurance.
No if a dedicated human ran it would run longer than an ostrich or emu
Because if a human was so sprint over and over like the deer is they'd be dropping from exhaustion too 🤣🤣🤣
So a better way to look at it is the best endurance animals running at the same speed as a human jogging. In that case the human would simply lose 10/10 because a wolf doing 6-12 mph is like asking a fish to breath in water😹😹😹
So the notion that humans are the best runners because they can walk and catch up to an animal that has sprinted all out multiple times might be one of the dumbest myths I've seen circulating the Internet.
A small percentage of humans can actually do this
Swerv Innocent haha so true
anyone who has functioning legs and actually trains can run at long distances.
That's NOW. Back in the stone age, almost everyone would have been able to do it. Those who couldn't, died.
So we evolved to pretty good runners (I don't buy the "best" of this inaccurate video) and we have since regressed to the worst runners (most non-athletes)
So thankfully our ancestors weren't vegans...
@Zeon if our ancestors were herbivores rather than omnivores, sprinting and running would not be required for us to compete.
I’m pretty sure that fast walking causes more damage than running as it is a more unnatural motion
