  • Here is a beautiful recipe for an apple slice. I had serious cravings for this slice while away in Greenland and have only just fulfilled those cravings!
    Ingredients:
8 large granny smith apples (sliced)
    1 tsp of cinnamon
    1 tsp of cloves
    1/3 cups of sugar
    125g butter
    125g sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 cups flour
    2 Tbs cornflour
    1 Tbs custard powder
    1 Tbs baking powder
    Icing sugar to dust.
Bake at 180C for 20 mins or until golden.

    For my fellow Americans:
Baking temp is around 350 F
    125 g butter = 1/2 cup
    125 g sugar = 5/8 cup (a scant 2/3 cup, or a heaping 1/2 cup)
If you don’t have custard powder, substitute 1:1 ratio of dry vanilla pudding powder (or another option is: add 1 tsp vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and 1:1 cornstarch for substitution instead)
Corn flour is known as cornstarch in USA
    Pan size conversion 8” X 15 3/4”

Suggestion is...orange juice or lemon juice while cooking apples instead of water

I have just taken this out of the oven - it smells and looks good surprisingly because the recipe is so damned FLAWED. Good grief...ONE TEASPOON EACH OF CINNAMON and CLOVES and then ONE TABLESPOON BAKING POWDER??? All you need is a half teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of cloves and ONE teaspoon of baking powder. Also - I have paint on my walls thicker than this crust - your comment below that it fits a 40 x 20 cm pan is bonkers. Even if those were the outer dimensions it would be paper thin. Luckily I stopped in time and found a much smaller pan: inner dimensions 18 x 27 cm and even then the crust is less than 1/4" thick. Lots of potential but will fail if made as written. Thank you.

    • @zacl79
