I want to be honest. I knew Spyro through Skylanders, which was my favorite videogame series of all time. It was pretty shocking that I found that fans hated the Skylanders design and prefer the classic one, which was way cuter and I admit. I played the Reignited trilogy and I fell in love this playful and kindhearted side of Spyro. As an aspiring Comic book/Manga artist, I began drawing some scene of Skylanders, but with Spyro having the Reignited design. If I got hired at Microsoft, I’d suggest them to fix the design, you know, to please both Skylanders and Spyro fans.
I agree with you on what skylanders did to spyro and what was worse is that they had different figures for skylanders and one of them made his horns look like malefor.
I enjoyed DmC: Devil May Cry. the combat system was still very fun, and the "he doesn't even have white hair" argument isn't really fair, considering that this younger Dante has fully white hair by the end of the story. I'm glad that the outcry probably played a role in Devil May Cry 5's development, but I think Ninja Theory's DmC is actually underrated.
It was a good game on its own(even better if you think of it as a stand alone titel) but I think the worst part was that it directly mocked those who loved the original game.
Shelob wasnt always a spider. She was once the spirit of darkness who took the form of a beautiful woman. She was a child of Ungoliant. She hated the light and that is what deformed her into a spider when she became Melkor's partner. WatchMojo, please do your research. Read The Silmarillion. Her design was correct in Shadow of War considering its a prequel to the hobbit and LOTR
Dishonorable Mentions: *X and Zero - Megaman X7 -Not in terms of physical design, but rather, in personality. It's the same case as Metroid: Other M. The hunters have been flanderized beyond recognition. Zero had always been a badass but his character has evolved over the series, particularly in X4 and X5, with the emotional stress taking it's toll on him more and more. In X7, he's little more than a shell-shocked veteran that the writers (oh, I'm sorry. "Planners.") tried way too hard to make look like a badass, but ended up making him a stereotype in the process. But X got the worst treatment by far. X's struggle with violence was always there, but there was more to him than that. Because even though he didn't want to fight, he knew that sometimes you can't protect peace without stopping those who commit war. X7 reduces him to a wuss that won't stop whining about violence. So much so that you can't even play as him when the game starts. Even in the bosses, his dialogue mostly consists of "whine, whine, and more whine."
Let's not forget that X and Zero are also butting heads as to would should be keeping Axl with X OUTRIGHT REFUSING having Axl has a hunter and Zero being the opposite like seriously who thought it was a good idea to have two of the most beloved and iconic characters of the entire X saga suddenly competing against each other for a new character that we don't know or care. at least X8 and Command mission fixed this issues so that's good at least.
I think what people needs to do to enjoy the series is not focus on Spyro's redesign (It's not even that terrible. There's way worse redesigns), and treat it kinda as it's own thing. Square Eyed Jak is a pretty good Spyro fan himself, and even he gave the series a fair shot, unlike Caddicarus.

Shelob's redesign for Shadow of War could actually be canon, as we can't be entirely sure whether she's able to shapeshift or not. The mystery starts with her mother, Ungoliant. Tolkien describes Ungoliant as a creature as a being of darkness, taking the shape of a spider. Since Tolkien never clarified whether she could actually switch shapes, this might lead people to believe that she can. As her daughter, Shelob inherited some of her traits and shapeshifting might be one of them, as is depicted in the game when she gets betrayed by Sauron/Anatar.
Shadow in Sonic Boom his character was completely thrown out the window to make him a total edge lord instead of someone who suffered through a lot in the past.
As someone who grow up with the skylander's spyro and knew this design first, i don't really have anything against spyro's redesign in the skylanders franchise
Hot take: I don’t really like the design for Fox McCloud from Star Fox: Command onwards. Why does he have exaggerated cheek tufts? Why does he have a shorter muzzle too? What was wrong with his original design in Star Fox 64, Adventures, and Assault to a certain degree?
What is this shitty list? Samus' Other M Suit and Zero Suit design is the sleekist she's ever looked like. Her characterization is an entirely different matter.
God, speaking of Sonic Boom, don't even get me started in how they changed Sonic's arms from flesh colored to blue! Makes me want to do something... Spicy
While I didn't like his aesthetics, I did like "Don't-e" overall. His movements and attacks, specifically seeing how he falters when attacking and whatnot.
Thankfully the sonic movies brought knuckles back by sort of combining the two personalities. In sonic 2 he's still got his serious and honor bound personality, but his stupidity is because he has no idea how modern society and technology functions being raised as a warrior.
I think the redesign of king dedede from Kirby games series is the confusing character for Nintendo to keep redesigning this one character over and over, that mostly tick me off.
Bomberman needed to be the same as he was when he first debuted and just enhanced so gameplay also with some new mechanics to make it fresh for a new generation of fans.
Despite his lack of intelligence as he has in video games, I thought Knuckles looked pretty cool as his buffed and goofy self in the Sonic Boom series.
Conker's been redesigned twice. His original appearance was in Diddy Kong Racing and Conker's Pocket Tales. His first redesign was in Bad Fur Day. His second is in Young Conker

Nice to see Knuckles early in the list. I like both his designs, but the Boom design accentuates him as the tough guy. He can't glide, but that honestly didnt make sense to me anyway since his OG design doesn't even imply that ability at all.
how can you say that about Samus Aran in Metroid the other m. first of all it dose not matter how strong you are even if you are a bounty hunter. the story that produces were telling what happened after Super Metroid she was going through grief not just for the baby Metroid but for the planet she grew up on.Of she would doubt herself for failing to save not just the baby Metroid but failing to save her planet that she lived on.if the only person that is a family to her is still alive of course she is going do what that person says. She only obeyed Adam because he was the only family member to her that was alive. at the end of Metroid the other m she got her confidence back. What the story tells you is how Samus Aran was at here lowest she was dealing with grief. adam knew what she was going through. let me ask you this in that game Adam was shocked that she was there because he knew that someone in his group was out there to kill him and her. first of all he sent her to different area while his group did the other work so she would would not be not be killed. also the reason why he did not ask her to activate her varia suit is that he wanted her to tuffen up and get over her grief. third he shot her in the back for two reasons one he wanted to se if the clone metroid of the baby would recognize her as its mother if it did not the he had a ice gun to kill it which he did. The second reason he hit her is so she would not follow him in to the trap that the person had set for her. Three he also wanted to sacrifice himself so that Samus would not be think of him and her last person that concerned family was gone so that she could overcome her grief and return to space bounty hunter that she was.also the reason why she freaked out when she saw Ridley was because he was the main reason the baby Metroid died and she lost her home world. it dose not matter how strong you are. Even a space bounty hunter grieves over loss. the reason why Adam did what he did was to bring back her confidence so she would return back to the cool space bounty hunter that she was.the hole story is about overcoming grief and getting back your confidence that is what metroid the other m is about.
I personally loved DMC. It was the first Devil May Cry game I played, and I've since delved into the others, and think that although I saw the difference, and get why people who knew Dante from the other games hated the departure as a character, the game as a whole gets more hate than it deserves. I thought it was a cool, fun, and honestly engaging game
It was the last DMC I've played and I loved it. Easily my second favorite game in the series (after DMC3) and that's considering the fact I was EXTREMELY prejudiced towards it before getting to actually play the game for years

I thought it was great plus Capcom told them to do that. That said I get the outcry. I'd be annoyed if Kratos had an afro or something but I always thought Dante looked like an idiot. The lad had bright white emo hair with a red trenchcoat on and in the first game red pants. In the third he had a nipple strap on. He was never cool and was always emo but I get it. If someone loves a character then I understand. Plus he does get the white hair by the end of the game anyway.
I remember reading a article about DMC Devil May Cry in highschool about Capcom getting death threats because of the game that's how you know the situation was crazy.
I don't mind Crash and Cortex's designs but the other characters feel too much of a departure from their designs in N-Sane trilogy. Tawna doesn't even look like the same character.
Sonic Boom knuckles in the games was terrible. But on the show he was hilarious. The show knew what it wanted to be, the show was meant to be funny. I can still remember several jokes

How about Ratchet? They made him too cutesy and more animal like starting in the PS3 games. In the original trilogy, he had a rougher appearance more in line with a mechanic, and it was more believable that he was an alien and not just an animal

*It's criminal how you didn't add Banjo and Kazooie's Nuts and Bolts design somewhere on this list.* 1: I've never played nor care about the Dead Rising series and it's irrelevance so Frank's design doesn't bug me. 2: I've never played LotR: Middle Earth so I know nothing about it to care. 3: Yeah Knuckle's Sonic Boom design has been hilariously memed to death at this point, but it will never stop. It gives a serious reminder to the devs who designed him not to do stupid crap like that ever again. Regardless though the show he was in was still funny. 4: I never played Perfect Dark Zero so I wouldn't know...I'm not an FPS lover, but I still played Goldeneye 007 a lot as a kid and yes, it is one of the best FPS games ever made. 5: I never played Conker after finding out about it's disgusting adult-themed nuisances as a kid so I stayed far away from it. I heard about this terrible remake of his design though. 6: So I did plan on playing RE7 until the devs decided to make it first person.... but I still at least know about the TERRIBLE receiving they did in my boi Chris Redfield. Instead of the buff sexy man (no homo) the fans know, he looks like a tacky white suburban dad getting ready to head to the office after giving his family the hallmark "I'll see you all after work kids and my loving wife" treatment. They did cook with his newer design though like you said. 7: I've played one Metroid game for the SNES, but that was it. I'm not too big on the Metroid titles to even know nor care about any of her designs. 8: What? Bomberman? How do you goof up such an easy, simple and cute design? These idiot devs making several games more "mature" is disgusting and won't always work. 9: Lol "Dont'te" Yes! This design was completely unnecessary and pathetically implemented. Did you know that they tried to make his design look like the main character from the Twilight movies? I think the worst part about Knuckles redesign is that it makes him the stereotypical, “all brawn and no brains” trope. Yeah, he’s a very tough guy, but his gullibleness comes from the fact he basically lived on an island for many years alone with no contact until Dr. Eggman shows up. He can be a pretty smart guy. It just sucks they made him the stupid one for comedy. Spyro’s Skylandr redesign was just ugly…
Zero from Mega Man X should've been on here. He looked like a total badass in the Mega Man X games but got redesigned to look like a toddler playing dress up in his own series.
I like the brawny look Sonic Boom gave Knuckles, but yeah he is a bit too dumb in the game. I feel like in terms of attitude the movie did it best, but I don't get the Boom Design hatred. I will also die on this hill, Skylander Spyro > Normal Spyro
Honestly I’m in the middle when it comes to the redesigns of Sonic and friends. Specifically with Sonic and Knuckles. I didn’t mind how Tails and Amy looked. Tails being a genius mechanic wearing a few belts and a pair of goggles makes sense for him and I do like making Boom’s version of Amy more independent and not just a love stricken fangirl. I’m really tired of that so seeing this was quite refreshing for me. And while the bandages are a bit much I can look past it. It’s with Sonic and Knuckles I have an issue with. Now I get what they were trying to do with Knuckles, being all big and muscular but not very bright makes sense, given that he’s supposed to be super strong in the main continuity but did they really have to take that idea literally? And true Knuckles had never been the brightest of the trio but he wasn’t necessarily stupid just naive and short tempered, and rather stubborn. As for Sonic what the hell is this? Bandages all over his body and even shoes, the brown scarf and extra quills. Now none of these are bad on their own but when you combine them, it’s way too busy and cluttered.
I like Knuckles in Sonic Boom because in the games before this one he is a little gullible because he gets tricked by Eggman numerous times and he’s hardheaded
I think Crash with a tattoo, Titans version of Tiny (like he's not even recognizable, his look and personality was just that bad) and the Titans / Mutant design of Uka Uka and Aku Aku where all deserving on a list link this and not much of a Mega Man fan myself, tho I like the character, I do agree that Mega Man's redesign is also deserving of this list (I'm referring to his design in: Street Fighter X Tekken for those wondering) Pac-Man's Ghostly Adventure redesign is also deserving on a list like this also if Sonic kept his original movie design that too was a horrible redesign for Sonic, thanks to the fans it got fixed tho going into movie versions of the characters the Goomba designs from the live action Mario movie is also another horrible design these are the once not mentioned in this video I can think of as of the time of me writing this
I still call it Edgelord May Cry. Someone told me it’s a good game, but they butchered him bad!!!! And seeing that scene made me want to punch the screen when I first saw it. They knew it’d piss fans off and decided to push it farther by mocking us
I'm very lucky; as I didn't play any of these games except DMC, but then I didn't play the Devil May Cry games. So I didn't have a problem with the game. I played the first few Sonic games but didn't get past Sonic and Knuckles. Played the first Spyro only

I actually had more issues with the gameplay instead of story in Other M. I was laughing at how bad idiculous some parts of the story were. Spyro's redesign is so overhated. And sadly, that's why a lot of people say that Skylanders is bad, without actually playing the games.

Here's a tip. Get the Trap Team portal if you do give it a shot. As that portal works with every game.

Bomberman needed to be the same as he was when he first debuted and just enhanced so gameplay also with some new mechanics to make it fresh for a new generation of fans.

Conker's been redesigned twice. His original appearance was in Diddy Kong Racing and Conker's Pocket Tales. His first redesign was in Bad Fur Day. His second is in Young Conker
His Bad Fur Day design was fine though. It was all the gameplay and censorship changes that killed it.

Nice to see Knuckles early in the list. I like both his designs, but the Boom design accentuates him as the tough guy. He can't glide, but that honestly didnt make sense to me anyway since his OG design doesn't even imply that ability at all.

how can you say that about Samus Aran in Metroid the other m. first of all it dose not matter how strong you are even if you are a bounty hunter. the story that produces were telling what happened after Super Metroid she was going through grief not just for the baby Metroid but for the planet she grew up on.Of she would doubt herself for failing to save not just the baby Metroid but failing to save her planet that she lived on.if the only person that is a family to her is still alive of course she is going do what that person says. She only obeyed Adam because he was the only family member to her that was alive. at the end of Metroid the other m she got her confidence back. What the story tells you is how Samus Aran was at here lowest she was dealing with grief. adam knew what she was going through. let me ask you this in that game Adam was shocked that she was there because he knew that someone in his group was out there to kill him and her. first of all he sent her to different area while his group did the other work so she would would not be not be killed. also the reason why he did not ask her to activate her varia suit is that he wanted her to tuffen up and get over her grief. third he shot her in the back for two reasons one he wanted to se if the clone metroid of the baby would recognize her as its mother if it did not the he had a ice gun to kill it which he did. The second reason he hit her is so she would not follow him in to the trap that the person had set for her. Three he also wanted to sacrifice himself so that Samus would not be think of him and her last person that concerned family was gone so that she could overcome her grief and return to space bounty hunter that she was.also the reason why she freaked out when she saw Ridley was because he was the main reason the baby Metroid died and she lost her home world. it dose not matter how strong you are. Even a space bounty hunter grieves over loss. the reason why Adam did what he did was to bring back her confidence so she would return back to the cool space bounty hunter that she was.the hole story is about overcoming grief and getting back your confidence that is what metroid the other m is about.
I personally loved DMC. It was the first Devil May Cry game I played, and I've since delved into the others, and think that although I saw the difference, and get why people who knew Dante from the other games hated the departure as a character, the game as a whole gets more hate than it deserves. I thought it was a cool, fun, and honestly engaging game
It was the last DMC I've played and I loved it. Easily my second favorite game in the series (after DMC3) and that's considering the fact I was EXTREMELY prejudiced towards it before getting to actually play the game for years

I thought it was great plus Capcom told them to do that. That said I get the outcry. I'd be annoyed if Kratos had an afro or something but I always thought Dante looked like an idiot. The lad had bright white emo hair with a red trenchcoat on and in the first game red pants. In the third he had a nipple strap on. He was never cool and was always emo but I get it. If someone loves a character then I understand. Plus he does get the white hair by the end of the game anyway.

3: Yeah Knuckle's Sonic Boom design has been hilariously memed to death at this point, but it will never stop. It gives a serious reminder to the devs who designed him not to do stupid crap like that ever again. Regardless though the show he was in was still funny.
4: I never played Perfect Dark Zero so I wouldn't know...I'm not an FPS lover, but I still played Goldeneye 007 a lot as a kid and yes, it is one of the best FPS games ever made.
5: I never played Conker after finding out about it's disgusting adult-themed nuisances as a kid so I stayed far away from it. I heard about this terrible remake of his design though.
6: So I did plan on playing RE7 until the devs decided to make it first person.... but I still at least know about the TERRIBLE receiving they did in my boi Chris Redfield. Instead of the buff sexy man (no homo) the fans know, he looks like a tacky white suburban dad getting ready to head to the office after giving his family the hallmark "I'll see you all after work kids and my loving wife" treatment. They did cook with his newer design though like you said.
7: I've played one Metroid game for the SNES, but that was it. I'm not too big on the Metroid titles to even know nor care about any of her designs.
8: What? Bomberman? How do you goof up such an easy, simple and cute design? These idiot devs making several games more "mature" is disgusting and won't always work.

Honestly I’m in the middle when it comes to the redesigns of Sonic and friends. Specifically with Sonic and Knuckles. I didn’t mind how Tails and Amy looked. Tails being a genius mechanic wearing a few belts and a pair of goggles makes sense for him and I do like making Boom’s version of Amy more independent and not just a love stricken fangirl. I’m really tired of that so seeing this was quite refreshing for me. And while the bandages are a bit much I can look past it. It’s with Sonic and Knuckles I have an issue with. Now I get what they were trying to do with Knuckles, being all big and muscular but not very bright makes sense, given that he’s supposed to be super strong in the main continuity but did they really have to take that idea literally? And true Knuckles had never been the brightest of the trio but he wasn’t necessarily stupid just naive and short tempered, and rather stubborn. As for Sonic what the hell is this? Bandages all over his body and even shoes, the brown scarf and extra quills. Now none of these are bad on their own but when you combine them, it’s way too busy and cluttered.

I'm very lucky; as I didn't play any of these games except DMC, but then I didn't play the Devil May Cry games. So I didn't have a problem with the game. I played the first few Sonic games but didn't get past Sonic and Knuckles. Played the first Spyro only
