    Nice to see 2 other vehicles besides the usual Land Cruisers and 4 Door Wranglers. Cool content!

      Its funny that you mention a Land Cruiser, as my new vehicle is a Lexus LX470, which is basically a Land Cruiser. Montero has served me great, but I just wanted a bit more power and it was time for a new build, as that is one of fun parts for me!

    I have done two very similar trips much like this, Orange county to Utah and back over a weeks time each... Best trips/vacations in my life and this video is wonderful... On our trips I took tons of great photos but video was not as good then as can be done now and drones had not even been thought of yet for footage like used in this... Love the video and my own memories it brings back.... But something Id really like to see is a good video covering how this or any like this was made... gear used, editing, the reality of it all, tips etc.... Im a still photographer and have been for decades, I used to spool my own film rolls, develop, print and do it all myself. Ive adapted to digital, still photography anyways... but drones, video editing, making videos like this I really could use some insight into doing. I recently got a go pro,,, wanted for ages.... going to put it on the dog on our beach runs but then what..... would love a making of video like this video... love to hear its creators tips and tricks

    Awesome video. Looks like you guys had a blast. I really like 3rd gen monteros. I have a 2002 limited. I put a 2.5” old man emu lift on mine and that thing can go anywhere I want. And has no problems keeping up with all my friends when we go off-roading.

    • @expeditionplus3902
      @expeditionplus3902  6 років тому +2

      Yes, they are great trucks. My only complaint is it needs more power. I might be going back to 32 inch tires in a future. My montero is a 2002 limited as well.

    • @jordanparker882
      @jordanparker882 6 років тому +1

      Yeah the 3.5 is a little sluggish. I would've rather gotten a 3.8 but when i found mine i knew it was the one :).
      That is one reason why my wife doesn't like it and prefers her Santafe. She always pulls out in front of people and needs that damn extra speed.

      Expedition Plus where did you pick up your snorkel? I’ve seen some but they are either well built super expensive or cheap made garbage from China. Or really bad homemade ones.

    • @expeditionplus3902
      @expeditionplus3902  6 років тому

      Jordan, the snorkel came from ebay in australia. Together with shipping it was around 100 dollars. The quality seems pretty good, and it even says pajero on the side. There were no installation instructions though.

    Great video. I drive a 2005 Mitsubishi Montero Limited and I’ve done some off-roading with it and it kept up quite nicely with the Jeeps to their surprise. Did you go standard OME lift or HD, and also, who made the spacers for you? I’d like to add some to the front when I get my lift as I don’t like he sloped look it naturally has. Thanks!

    • @expeditionplus3902

    Great video. Your Montero (Pajero here in Australia) just looks like any other 4x4 going off road out here with the awning, roof top tent, ARB bar etc. It has been the style for quite a while out here. Is that the case in North America too? I notice you use some Australian brands.

      Gabe, here is a link for the wind deflectors/visors www.wellvisors.net/index.php/wellvisors-side-window-deflectors-mitsubishi-montero-01-06-premium-series.html
      The springs are a bit on a stiffer side, but not bad at all. On the road they are great, good off road too. The only part that gets tiring is off road on washboard type roads.

    Hi.. Thank you for sharing this wonderful trip… I have a question for the Montero owner… am looking to buy a 2002 Montero and I would like to know where you got the parts to lift the trucks, etc. as these SUVs are not that popular here in the states; hence, they aren't that many off road parts available. Thank you!

    • @expeditionplus3902
      @expeditionplus3902  6 років тому +1

      You are right that these trucks are not too popular in the states, but there are still parts available for them. The easiest to find is OME lift springs and struts, there is a company that makes bolt on sliders, and ARB makes a front bumper and lockers which available through many sellers. Things that are difficult to find are skid plates, but even those can be ordered from Australia for around 600 dollars shipped. The biggest thing that I found with this truck is that you really have to do your research. A good resource for information is a facebook group called Mitsubishi Monteros USA.

    why are 90% of the overland trips on youtube through deserts? why not forests or even some grasslands? Mountains? Snow? I wanna see a good series through the pacific northwest. I don't know. I've seen XO's alaska trip. More trips up north need to happen. But, regardless, good video. very soothing

    • @expeditionplus3902
      @expeditionplus3902  6 років тому

      I personally like forests too, but in my area there are many deserts. This coming summer I am planning a trip to Colorado which will cover forest type areas I hope!

    • @JourneyWest
      @JourneyWest 5 років тому +1

      The main reason is that it's difficult to come up with solid overland trails back east because the public land is more sparse and it's harder to find long stretches of accessible backcountry roads. Out in the desert it's not hard to come up with overland routes that are hundreds of miles long and hardly ever hit civilization.

    That was a great video. I am currently trying to talk my wife into trading in her car for a Montero. This video & comments answered some of my concerns about your vehicle. I was at the expo last year when you were there. So the 2003 & newer has the bigger engine, but are they unibody and fully independent front & rear? I found 2 really nice ones an '03 & '06 and both have less than 140k miles on them..

    Who is the manufacturer of the roof rack installed on the Montero?

    • @expeditionplus3902

      I made that rack myself, ARB design was kink of an inspiration to the design, but I made it to accommodate a RTT and have ability to store items on the front part of a rack.

    Awesome Montero. My wife just surprised me with a roof top tent for my birthday to fit onto my 2003 Montero Limited 25th anniversary. Love this truck so much. A few questions, are those factory width tires? Or are you running spacers.. if so what size. Ans also, is that an ARB front bumper and snorkel? Where did you find the snorkel. Thanks!

    • @expeditionplus3902
      @expeditionplus3902  6 років тому +2

      The tires are BFG TA KO2 295 75 16, about 33.5 inches tall. Wheels are Level 8, and have 18 offset, 16x8.5. No spacers, but I had a tire shop get me some hubcentric adapters for the difference in center bore size. Bumper is arb, and snorkel is a cheap ebay copy shipped from Australia, was about 100 dollars. Roof top tent was a great addition, and is a much more comfortable then ground tent.

    • @expeditionplus3902

      This is the route that we took through Utah, around lake Powell you probably want to have some type of offroad gps, I personally use gaia app, and the most challenging part was on the trail we had to take in Arches national park, there you want to have clearance and 4wd. On the trail around lake Powell clearance is needed too, but can be done in 2wd if weather is dry. Due to the remoteness I would say 4wd is highly suggested!
      We entered Utah at St George, and went through Zion national park. We camped right as you exit the park as all the sites were taken and you have to book well in advance. From there we set off to Kanab and then to Big water. From Big water we took a dirt trail which on google maps is called NP230, to NP264 for the lake Powell overlook, back to 230 to blm340 to blm300 and made our way to Escalante. From there we took 12 to 24 to 70 to 191 and got to the back trails of Arches national park. Blm 144 to 145, which becomes Salt Valley RD and runs in to the park, but at the end of the road where you can see park parking lot gate was closed due to road construction. We had to turn around and take a trail that runs past Eye of the whale arch to blm 378. From there we went on arches scenic dr. From there we took 191 to needles overlook road and down to Monticello. From there we had a few trails planned, but they were still closed for the season about to be reopened in a few days time, but too late for us. We took Montezuma canyon road, which is just dirt road, but very pretty to Hovenweep rd to 291 to butler wash rd to lower butler wash rd to 163 to Valley of gods, and then we went through Mexican hat on our way to Flagstaff AZ for overland expo.
      I really wish we had few more days for the trip, but now I know where to go back to next time. Hope you enjoy your welcome home trip whichever routes you take, from what it seems like you cant go wrong with anywhere in Utah. We used these series of books to pick out some of the trails 4wdbooks.com/products/utah-trails-moab-region , and now I ordered them for CA. Next year we are planning a trip to Colorado.

      It has a 3 inch lift, combination of custom spacers and ome 2 inch lift. Wheels are level 8 and tires are 295 75 16 bfg ko2, almost 33.5 inches tall if you measure them.

    Did you need any permits for any of the trails ?

    • @expeditionplus3902
      @expeditionplus3902  7 років тому

      We did not need any permits, but had to pay for the entrance going through Zion national park, and from what I understand you are suppose to pay when visiting Arches park, but we went in through the back side and did not encounter any entrance booths. We did have an annual national park pass so that would have covered the fee. If you are doing Mojave road then you need a permit if its more then 7 vehicles in your group. In Moab are you do need to get usage permits which can be purchased online, but you have to do it ahead of time.

    The montero is a nice truck and you built it really well.
    A friend of mine got an 01 Montero and having an issue with the crank bolt, it comes loose. Is this a common issue on a Montero? For parts, try AMAYAMA.com. It is an online parts shop selling OEM parts for any Japanese car/truck. Pretty reliable and the parts are very cheap. Ships either from Japan or UAE. I am trying to help Montero owners to locate parts.
