I have a question, in some time I'll be moving to Japan and have a Japanese visa which allows me to live in Japan like a Japanese person. Does it still take a lot of money to start a business in Japan then? Also, I would like to know how to go about starting a business in Japan, like, do you have a lot of paperwork to set things up? Do you need to register your company somewhere? How do you handle taxes? I've been talking to some Japanese people about this but non of them really knew how to answer these questions ^^"

The thought point of turning your hobby or talent into a profitable business. That one has crossed my mind a lot. I do think my art can be a viable source of income, but I also know that I have possible health struggles wairing for me. So I think keeping it a hobby is the right thing to do. I will be starting to post it to UA-cam, but not really for money. If it takes off, and I can get monitization off of it. Then I might concider it.

At my age ( I'm about a year older than your mum) I think keeping my job and doing a side hustle is my best bet should I ever decide to make a go of doing something myself (possibly voice acting). I've always been impressed with your drive and dedication though😊 Still hoping you'll be a guest on my show/livestream if you can find the time😊

It's really hard to start a business in a small city like our Matsuyama without great connections. Sadly We (especially old dudes) are super conservative.

It's the same everywhere. Connections are hard for introverts like me especially but we have to make it happen. Try joining a club or attending a gala that your customers or potential partners attend. Don't pitch them, ask them if they know someone else who might need what you provide 😉

It is a nice talk, running a business or working a family business makes you more part of the well owner part of it rather than being simply employed.
Many things you never would come across with as being employed.
But from my perspective based on where I am from, it is needlessly expensive to run your own business in the forms of different kind of taxes and social fees that you as an employed must pay to the government. Making hiring people and keeping people hired more expensive than it has to be.
And while you might need to expand your work force you simply can not afford to do so because of said social fees.
Which is truly a shame as it keeps small business from expanding and getting more people working.

I've always thought that the primary difference between being the employer and the employee is the amount of responsibility involved. As an employer you're responsible for many things that the employee never has to know much about. Particularly managing taxes and benefits for the employee and running the business sustainably to continue to provide value for yourself and the employee.
The trade-off is often that you tend to reap more rewards from the business than the employee does.

Also, great video Sherry! It's good to hear advice like this from a relatively new entrepreneur. I'm not one myself, but I'm considering it now that I'm in a situation to build up capital.

Out of all the things mentioned, most of the pain in the ass comes from having to deal with taxes and stupid regulations only there to protect big corporations. Governments sure know how to make the life of everyone harder than it should be. Being from Brazil I know exactly what it feels like.

    Hi, Sherry !!
Thank you for your video. *^^*
    I have many questions..
How do you learn to become an entrepreneur in Japan?
I'm from Mexico, here many universities have an office to create class and events for entrepreneurs and help students to start a company.
Also there are a lot of private companies whose business is to make classes for people who want to become entrepreneur.
Some times government pays part of the fee for classes for entrepreneurs or to start a company.
People say that big investors in Mexico are very far from an investor in USA, the budget is really low compared with US investors.
Here, most of the entrepreneurs start with his family and own resources and most of the companies have less than 5 employes.
Also on Internet in spanish language there is a boom about companies who teach you how to become entrepreneur.
    How is in Japan?
    One last question.
I will move to Japan maybe on next year and have family there. I would like to give to my childs the idea to become an entrepreneur as me *^^*, here in my country we have the Idea to be different in any way we can do ^^ , but I hear that japanese culture is to be same as others or 出る釘は打たれる. That is where my question start, how to give the idea to become an entrepreneur to a child in Japan and do not have problems with the cultural idea 出る釘は打たれる.

I think you're putting it on a pedestal. Entrepreneurship is really just solving problems you see around you instead of waiting for someone else to do it. That's something we can (and should be) teaching our kids. Unless you're in the business/tech startup/manufacturing field (because they need high level business skills to attract investors), most of those Entrepreneurship schools are a waste of time. Take your tuition fee and use it to start your own company instead 😉

    • @roberto-r
      @roberto-r 5 років тому

@@MiaogisTeas Thank you for your words, I'm agree with you.
I don't have kids, that's why I don't know how to teach kids and it's my worry for the next years.
I have a tiny business since 10 year ago, its about electronics manufacturing, I like my way of life, that's why I would like to teach the entrepreneur idea to my future kids.
I want to ask to Sherry about this as a normal chat. I have some japanese friends but nobody is an entrepreneur, that's why I want to ask her in an Informal way. ^^
I think Sherry do not have 40 years of experience about business, but I'm sure that she has more experience than all my friends from Japan together. haha and my questions is related with business and culture.
