I haven't premixed once (neither did the previous owner), I do however plan to do so. Haven't compression tested either (once again, I plan to do so). Anyways so thanks for making all these useful videos, now I'll know exactly what to do (they are also very enjoyable, keep it up).
Great job being transparent and explaining your perspectives and the insights from your friend. I agree that the perception of these cars are clearly misguided, even from some of the seasoned fans. Best advice: find a good one, take care of it. They're out there, just have to do your due diligence. I have an S2 that had a manufacture rebuild. I did a quick compression test last week, but I need to really do multiple tries like you did to feel confident about my numbers, but I feel optimistic.
I bought my Rx8 like 8 months ago and no problems at all i drive daily and still holding pretty great I do everything as possible to make the engine live longer I bought it with 42k miles and now have 50k 🙌🏼
I agree with what you said for compression being exaggerated on the chart, my old rx8 I had ran perfectly fine at 60psi all the way across it pulled strong and started fine everytime
I'm more willing to lean toward the SOHN adaptor mod improving your compression - getting good, clean 2stroke oil in there, instead of dirty crankcase oil, and in a better delivery, probably helped the numbers.

Ok, that is REALLY good numbers, I don't even know if my freshly built engine pulled those numbers LOL! But before my original engine blew, I was running it for about a year, front rotor was at like 70's PSI (around 5 BAR) and rear rotor was somewhere in the 50's PSI (around 3.5 BAR). I have the 2kw starter, so it helped start the car, and I was replacing spark plugs every oil change basically cause the plugs would be filled up with gunk because of the low compression. Now, if you wanna keep her running healthy, I STRONGLY recommend you change plugs every year, regardless of how many miles you put on it. That's what I'm doing, and what I've been recommended to do by my rotary rebuilder.
Yea that just goes to show how exaggerated the mazda compression chart is, you can def still be running in the 5s for a while haha but you better have the rebuild in mind soon lol
yea, the only thing is, the longer you run, the worse the rebuild is gonna be... funny enough, the low compression I was running on did not result in apex seal failure; what actually failed was my stationary gear, which basically took out my entire motor; people were saying it was from over-revving, but no such thing on a stock tune rotary. It failed because I jumped on the thicker oil bandwagon too late, and no one knew the mileage on the motor I put in. I bought a used one to try to get the car running after I bought it, and it came with compression numbers in the 80's PSI... did a decarb cleanup on it and bumped it up to around 90 PSI for a few years. It was my daily, I put 12k miles every year on that motor.
Honestly the apex seals aren't as weak as most people think it to be online lol, I've seen more people have to rebuild cause of their coolant seals. Good to know we keeping these cars on the road
@@Rxjeikun u got the BHR motor mounts, right? how do they feel? are they bad on NVH? their website says that there is a little more vibration between 1250 and 1500 RPM; my motor mounts are kinda shot, wanted to know if the extra $60 over Mazda mounts would be a good option in hopes of these lasting longer and doing a better job at keeping the drivetrain together
You really notice alot of the nvh at lower rpm ngl. If you go to any video after I installed the motor mounts, you can hear the shaking whenever taking off from a stop. It's not unbearable but you will hear and feel it lol, it does drastically improve the driving feel tho imo
I had the original engine rebuilt at 131,000 miles about a year ago. I am now having a high-speed Miss problem after it warms up. Text to the shop that rebuilt it and it showed about 105 PSI per face. I did new coils and wires and tomorrow I'm going to put new plugs into it.

Would be a good idea to also pull the ignition coil fuse so you're not unnecessarily zapping your engine...

My RX8 has 4.3 bars of compression evenly across all 6 rotor faces and it still runs fine but im expecting it to blow up soon
