    One major advantage (at least for me) with the 500 is maintenance. You never need to adjust the valves on the classic 500. It uses self adjusting hydraulic lifters that are push rod activated (OHV). The 350 will need frequent valve adjustments with its overhead cam engine and screw adjusters.

    I own a Classic 500, the same matte black colour scheme (named the Stealth Black here India) and I wouldn't trade it for any other classic/retro bike. The new 350 has a great engine, brakes etc but there's this "character" to the 500 that is irreplaceable.
    Practicality - 350. Pure joy - 500.

    Many pros to the 350, but imo there should be a kickstarter on all modern classics..😁

      Can't agree more. I've been on the 350 at the presentation in Italy at EICMA: an hostess asked me what I liked and what I wanted to change. I've told her I would like the kickstarter like it was on the 500!!!

    Thank you for the feedback. It is very honest. I have an interceptor and the 500. But I tend to ride the 500 more compared to the 650. I guess I will end doing the same if I trade the 650 for the new classic 350. So no changes from my side perfectly happy to keep the 500.

    After living with the build quality of my 2020 Classic 500, I cant imagine how much time people would spend at the dealers if they couldnt fix stuff themselves.
    I personally dont understand the want for a classic look without the classic feel. 500 all day long, not least of which for the sound. Thats just such a distinct sound. It makes me happy whenever I hear it, even the stock sound from someone elses bike

      Yeah i see what youre saying mate! I love the classic feel but i do see the appeal of a classic looking bike that rides like new for the people who use it as an every day commute since our classic is a weekend bike for fun we love the roughness and vinrations but riding every day i would prefer the 350! Cheers for the comment!

      @@roadblastmedia I used to daily my 500 into the Sydney CBD. One of the best things about this bike is that I reack its limits WAYYYY before I reach my own limits.
      Ive worn a hole in the rear brake lever as it scrapes around hard corners. And got consistant 18.9s 1/4 mile times at Eastern Creek. But that was so slow because I still had on the panniers and rifle scabbard, and because Im a fat cunt.
      I love my 500. Its my dream bike. Now Im working from home 100% of the time, the bike is a weekend ride. You are right. Thats what it should be. But its the quality that lets it down, not the vibrations.

    THANK YOU for this! At Quaker City Motorsport in Philadelpha, PA, USA recently, they had a 2018 Classic 500 like the one you rode. It had 10K-20K miles on it; I can't remember for sure, other than the mileage was in the five figures. In the photos, the bike looked good. HOWEVER, they were asking $7,000 USD for it; that's $1.5K-$2K MORE than it sold for new! Even so, the bike was off the dealer website a week or so after it went up. RE Classic 500s don't often go up for sale here; when they do, they don't last long and they sell for a pretty penny.
    I'd thought about getting the Classic 500 when they were made here a few years ago, but for some reason, I didn't. I was riding two scooters at the time ('04 Honda Helix and a '11 Suzuki Burgman 400), so I wasn't sure I wanted a bike. I figured that, since Royal Enfield made the Bullet for decades, they'd make the Classic 500 for longer than they did. Unfortunately, they didn't; the Classic 500 has been gone for 2-3 years here in the US. I didn't think I'd be able to get a Classic 500 ever.
    SO! When RE brought back the Classic in the form of the Classic 350, I was happy; I was relieved that, if I wanted, I could get a classic RE. When I heard it was based on the Meteor 350 that I own, I was even happier; I was thrilled! I know how much of a gem the engine is, and that's reason enough to be happy that it's used in the Classic 350. When I heard that they used the same frame and brakes too, that sweetened the deal for me. RE used different styling, and they went with a bigger rear wheel, so even though it shares much with the Meteor 350, it has its own character, its own feel.
    As for vibration, I know I didn't want that. I once owned a 1982 Honda FT500 Ascot, which had a big, single cylinder engine. Though it was a light, flickable bike, that sucker VIBRATED LIKE CRAZY! After an hour or so on the bike, I felt it. The old Classic 500 sounds like it shares that with my old Honda. For that reason, I'm glad I passed on the Classic 500-both then and now. I'm anxiously awaiting the Classic 350's arrival here in the US. When it comes, I plan on getting myself one. I like that it has the classic, old school looks of its ancestor, but I'm also glad it doesn't vibrate like my old Honda did. Anyway, I CAN'T WAIT! I'm fancying a Chrome Red Classic 350... :)
    Anyway, thanks for this comparo between the Classic 500 with the UCE vs. the Classic 350 with the J series engine from the Meteor. It confirms for me that I made the right decision. Cheers!

    I have a 2018 RE 500 Stealth Black and have done 30K KM. It's an absolute joy to ride and you will never feel tired. Suggest not to make too much of the vibration because actually it's not too much. The 350 can never match the ride quality of the 500 no matter how modern it evolves into.

    • @roadblastmedia
      @roadblastmedia  2 роки тому +1

      I love the vibration bro! Part of its charm! Well said

    • @briand4000
      @briand4000 7 місяців тому

      Yeah, I concur. My '18 Battle Green Classic 500 is very comfortable to ride, just don't flog it beyond what it is meant to do! Keep it at 60mph and under and it just chugs along without hardly a buzz felt anywhere. Any single cylinder bike, when hammered into the higher revs, WILL buzz...it is simply physics. Pick the right bike for the mission and all is well. I have a BMW R1200RT for hitting the highway and covering miles but it is not at all the same kind of pure joy on the side roads like the Classic gives me. These little bikes are just a total hoot to ride and every motorcyclist should experience one.

    Most UA-camrs have a catch phrase at the beginning and/or end of their videos. Your sign-off should be something like "Thanks for watching and don't forget to cancel those turn signals. See ya next time mates."
    😁 OK, sorta being funny, but that is certainly not a bad habit to have. I drive for a living and I know enough to not always believe turn signals all the time, but another not so wise driver may see you coming and believe you are going to turn when you simply forgot to cancel that signal who knows how long ago. Could get ugly, right? Stay safe mate.

And it does affect the comfort by a fair margin for people more taller than 5'8 (I'm 6'1 with a history of lumbar spinal problem). I felt lot more comfortable in the older one. Do you feel the same? Thank you.

      You can use a Fuel X Pro on J motor 350 Classic which is better than a booster plug & improves fueling & richens it up so you notice better acceleration.There is 2,Fuel X which just has one self adjusting tune & adjusts for altitude,heat etc.
      The other is the Fuel X Pro & has 10settings 3 being stock tune & 1&2 setting for high altitudes which runs leaner.Settings 6-8 are everyday settings with 9-10 being richer & performance at sea level or abit above & has a button mounted on bars to choose setting.If you can use Fuel X made by Powertronic you probably could use a Powertronic piggyback ECU which can be used in conjunction with Fuel X or Fuel X Pro.Either one be good if you have aftermarket filter & slip on or header.

      They ARE hard to find! You rarely see them on Cycle Trader here in the US. When a Classic 500 goes up for sale, it's gone in a week or two. A RE dealer here (Quaker City Motorsport in Philadelphia, PA, USA) had one a month or so ago. It was a 2018 Classic 500 just like the one featured here. It has 10K-20K miles; I can't remember the exact mileage, but it was well in to the five figures. The bike looked good in the dealer photos, but I never saw it in person. Do you know it not only sold quickly, but it sold for $7,000 USD; that's $1.5K-$2K MORE than it sold for new! So yeah, Classic 500s are hard to come by in the US. When one comes on the market, it's quickly snapped up for a pretty penny.

    I owned a Classic 350 and upgraded to the 500 in 2018, and I'd pick the 500 anyday. Its faster, bulkier, and has got a sweeter exhaust note than the new 350. And you also get used to the vibrations in a day!

      Still have the tubes i think mate as the wheels are still spoked i think the meteor and classic 350 with the alloy wheels are tubeless though!
