I saw this when it ran on TV nearly 40 years ago and was BLOWN AWAY. First I'd ever heard of them. I was 15. What little did we all know back then that they would become one of the best and most recognized bands in the world.
They played Nobody Weird Like Me at the Jazz Fest last month. He kept up with Chad but you can see he's starting to have a bit of trouble. For being almost 60 he's still phenomenal
Thicke had a syndicated late-night talk show called Thicke of the Night, which lasted only through the 1983-84 season, But it was enough to give the Red Hot Chili Peppers their first-ever television appearance on March 16, 1984, only three months before the show was cancelled
@@JackBealeGuitar came here to say the exact same thing. Of course this isn't "great" but they were so frenetic back then and it was great to watch. It's hard to see how boring they've become after watching this
Who'd have thought this band would go on to be one of the most over-played bands in radio history. If I could send a letter to past Alan Thicke I'd say, "Please tell them not to write a song called 'Scar Tissue.'"
I was the hand held cam on this. Great fun
That is awesome! Do you remember the exact date it was recorded?
It was either feb or March of 1984. That’s as close I can get. Hollywood at that time was very drug fueled
Very cool!
AWESOME!!!!

@@mr.FRESHWATER I’ll do my best, man! 😂

me too. Blew my mind.
Flea is a phenomenal bassist. Even back then starting out. Popping and slapping away. Awesome 😎

Jack never gets enough credit for the job he did in the band.
So true! RIP Jack
True fact, dude. He played this tune so well and he was a good guy. Rip Jack.
R.I.P Jack Sherman
you missed the most important part 4:00 - Flea demonstrating early South Cali skank/slamming style....
Had to come back and see this… i remember watching this when it first aired… pretty freakin rad!
CLIFF! Give the drummer some. Also the Brother's Cup leather jackets NEED to come back
How far my boys have come...
[Episode 126] Thicke of the Night
16-Mar-1984 (Fri)
Host: Alan Thicke
Guests:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Casey Kasem
and Richard Belzer.
I was the hand held cam on this.
I still love them I've loved them for a long time
Jack Sherman was the Jason Newsted of RHCP
perfectly bizarre performance.. AK is off the map lol
I see what you did there lol :)
I this live, I was living in CA at the time
This was on St. Patrick's Day that year.
R.I.P Sherm! funky AF
I remember this night so well. Up until it I thought of Flea as Rat Boy. The dude on the stairs at the Cathay that always put his rat in my face.

Starts to sound super good at minute 3
Jack Sherman was a very tasteful guitarist. Would have loved to for him to see a longer life and career.
Incredible.
I thought flea was going to start playing Can't Stop
5:04 the most awkward 5 seconds I’ve ever seen
There is no way millenials can understand this...

Millennial here
What are you talking about?
I am 52 years old and I don't even understand. One trick pony.
You RANG!?
Inicios buscando su camino, desinibicion total 😂
My God, Kiedis is just awful in this.
He was high as a kite
I wish he'd be more like this now, they were exciting back then, now they're a middle of the road rock band
@@JackBealeGuitar came here to say the exact same thing. Of course this isn't "great" but they were so frenetic back then and it was great to watch. It's hard to see how boring they've become after watching this
Dude even raps flat.
Jack was a good player but he definitely did not fit in with the band, no chemistry with the guys onstage at all.
holy crap the band is all manlets
Well that's some fucking bullshit right there. Glad they found their form in later years but this is just awful
They're so playful
They're trying way too hard. So not interesting.
