    This was very cool. I’d be thinking of using a muslin bag vs the tea bags.

    I tried this and it worked amazingly. The result is great to add a lot of heat but no additional flavors to large batches of food.

    I went through with the whole process today and did everything you recommended in this video and it worked out very well:-), I got back about a third of the alcohol, a good bit of it evaporated back out of the jar it was Dripping into but there was just enough to pour back into the pepper Mash to get one last extract out of it before I finish everything and get a final super concentrated product. Thanks for the video :-)

      @@themightymustache69 while the strainer I use was a pretty fine mesh strainer, and it looks like fine white sediment looking stuff at the bottom. I was just hoping it wasn't something like crystalline capsaicin settling down because I restrained it and it caught some of it and I washed it down the drain. More of it settled down in the jar afterwards though.

    You have a hole next to the grommet

    Is there any need to use further preservatives like vinegar to give it a decent shelf life?

    • @themightymustache69
      @themightymustache69  9 місяців тому +1

      The little bit of alcohol left in it keeps it stable. Long as it’s sealed it won’t go bad. Might completely dry out and crystallize otherwise

      @@themightymustache69also do I need to use copper pipe or could it be safe to use plastic piping like larger tubing similar to fish tank air pump hosing?

      Might melt, copper has been safely used in distilling for a century.

      Sorry to bug but I got one last important question. So I went to Home Depot the next day after asking you those questions and I got all the copper piping that I need, but they didn't have any rubber grommets.
      So I'm using half gallon mason jars and half inch copper pipe, but I'm trying to figure out something to use to seal around the copper pipe through the hole in the lid of the Mason jar, but I don't know what is safe to use. Could I use something like latex gloves to seal around that pipe in the hole of the lid?

    Save energy by leaving lid off and let the sun evaporate the alcohol. Saves a lot of steps for the little guy. Just a thought.. Also if doing the full project, put the lid on the glass before drill so it doesnt spin in your hand like that. - Good job on project. Also, for people watching, the copper tubing is to suck the alcohol out and saved to use again. So minimal loss of alcohol.... :)

    I’m working on this myself, I’m trying to recreate a garlic habanero sauce and make my own Carolina reaper sauce , we used to do extracts in a kitchen I worked at where we used everclear and I can’t for the life of me figure out how the one guy did his on a stove with no copper tubing and his return was like a 16oz bottle of extract, I think I’m going with the way you did yours for safety reasons but I wish I could remember how he did his lol, good video tho I appreciate the info!!

      Lol I mean he probably didn’t boil it down as far as I did. I boil it down to the absolute purest form. Just be careful and remember those alcohol fumes are extremely combustible. You can watch it flare up on another video I did. Making the hottest hot sauce in the world l.

    If i add oil to increase the amount, will it decrease the heat?

    • @themightymustache69
      @themightymustache69  3 роки тому +1

      You want only about a 5th of the jar submerged so if you start there you’ll be fine. Once the oil gets up to temp it’s super hot. I wouldn’t add anything while it’s blazing hot. I usually start with a fifth submerged and as it gets lower I empty a little oil so I can see the extract progress a little more clear Eli

    This is amazing. I wonder if you tried leaving out the teabags and just using a cheese cloth filter at the end. Ever try it?

      Pepper Forward I thought about it lol, but some real small particles like to remain when you leave it in there freely. Also I just always have teabags in the house. Cheesecloth would work well probably as a substitute. It’s kind of a whatever is laying around use it video.
